Chapter 7
Raven's POV
We woke up early just like he said and got ready for moving out. I packed the final things for my suitcase and went downstairs.
It wasn't long before we left without barely eating anything 'We'll eat something on the way,' Claude had told me as we walked to the train station.
I sat down on a bench, waiting for claude to come with the tickets. It took a few minutes until I finally saw him with two pieces of paper in his hands that looked like tickets.
He sat next to me, folding his arms and resting his head against the wall 'The guy said it's the second train. Half an hour's wait, three hour's journey.'
'Okay, so now can you tell me where we're going?' I ask impatiently.
He chuckles 'I'm not telling you.'
Annoying little shit. 'Fine,' I cross my arms and close my eyes. 30 minutes until our train comes. 30 minutes...
30 minutes seemed like 30 years. We waited and waited and when a train finally showed up, I nearly lost it remembering that it wasn't the train we were supposed to get on. 'Calm down, there's only like 10 minutes left,' claude cheers me up.
'There better be because my butt starting to hurt sitting on this wooden bench this whole time!' I whine.
He holds back his laugh and tries calming me down. To pass the time we played rock paper scissors. We're in a draw so whoever scores the next point and breaks the tie of 92 wins. I'm just about to shoot when we hear the screeching of the breaks of a train arriving at the platform.
'Finally,' Claude sighs as we lift our suitcases into the vehicle and take a seat at the back of the train.
'Window seat!' I call out, running to that specific seat and I can hear Claude groan behind me.
'I wanted to sit there.' He says, placing himself next to me.
'Well to bad,' I stick my tongue out at him. He glares.
The train starts moving. I looked out the window; the sky was already an orangy color and was barely even noon. But since it's still the middle of January I guess the days are going to be shorter.
Usually at this time of year, friends and I would go shopping every single day until spring. It was only a few months ago that we were stressed out with revising for our exams. Connie kept texting me asking of I had any idea what the questions were.
Wait.
I stand up and open the compartment above my seat and get my purse out. I closed it and sat back down, unzipping the purse and shuffling through it to find my phone. It was probably dead; I hadn't charged it in a long time. But just hopefully I switched it on. Please, let there charge.
My eyes literally stare in disbelief as it succefully flashes on with a quarter of the battery still left.
I unlock and do to see if I have any messages. Loads.
Few were still Christmas wishes but the rest were from Connie and Ayesha. I read the first one from Connie.
Connie: Hey, are you home?
Connie: School started. I haven't seen you yet. Are you sick?
And then I looked at the next few.
Connie: Raven, is it true? I heard these rumours but I didn't want to believe them. Did you kill Allen?? Why do you never call us anymore? Why don't you come to school anymore. People think you're a murderer. I miss you, Raven
My eyes blurred. I wanted so badly to text her back right now, or call her even and tell her that none of that was true. I mean, I did kill Allen but it was him that was trying to kill me! I miss you too, Connie...
The next few texts were from Ayesha.
Ayesha: I watched the news last night. It can't be true.
Ayesha: Why did you do it, Raven? Why did you kill him?
Ayesha: I went to your house the other day but it was under tight security. Claude is missing too
Ayesha: Did you kill Claude, too?
Ayesha: Why aren't you texting back? Aren't we your friends? Please Raven, come back. We want to know the truth
I want to tell you the truth but I can't, Ayesha. I wipe my eyes so Claude won't notice but he does. 'What happened?' He asks and I hand him the phone. 'Don't worry about these. They're not true. You aren't a murderer.'
'They miss me,' I sob into my hands 'And I miss them, too! I want to go home!'
'We can't go home, Raven!' Claude yell startling me 'Didn't I tell you before? You have to forget about all this. You have to forget about your old life. It didn't exist.'
He stops, wrapping his arms around me and giving me a tight hug. 'I'm sorry I raised my voice,' he apologizes 'I just don't want to repeat myself again. I miss my old life too. I miss home. And I hate the fact that we can never go back. But we have no other choice.' He cups my face with his hand 'Look, instead of forgetting just feel lucky. That you had that kind of life and you had friends...and you weren't alone.'
'You were alone that whole time weren't you? That's why you want to forget.' My gaze locks with his.
'Pretty much,' he smiles, but I know it isn't real. I move !y head forward and kiss his lips in a kind of gentle way. He returns the kiss, still cradling my face in his hands.
'You're not alone anymore, alright?' I tell him firmly 'Youre stuck with me.'
'Yeah,' and this time his smile is genuine 'I'm stuck with you.'
