Chapter 6

'Let's see how that wound is doing now.' I say, lifting Claude's shirt up from the back.

My fingers gently rubbed at the small scab slowly healing and fading. Soon it will be completely gone like nothing ever happened there. It was scary.

'Ah,' Claude winced probably because I touched a sensitive spot. I jolt my hand away in case I hurt him again 'No, it's fine. It just hurts sometimes.'

'Sorry,' I whisper.

'Hey, don't frown like that,' his hand reaches for my cheek 'I just bought you a shitload of stuff,'

I giggle 'Fine then, you big fat dumdum,'

He kisses my cheek and gets up. 'Where are you going?' I ask him.

'Packing all my stuff,' he says, opening my door 'You should start packing too,' he leaves.

I get up. I probably should start packing my suitcases. I've decided I'll take all the new clothes I bought and maybe take one of my old stuff as well. Some old books or something?

As I started packing the suitcases that I had found, I start imagining what it would be like to live in a house with Claude. It would be so amazing.

'Raven?' I heard a knock on my door 'Can I come in?'

I recognized immediately that it was Mrs Helston.

'Yeah sure,' I say and she opens the door. She comes in and sits on my bed.

'So, you're moving out?' She places her hands on her lap.

'I remember having this conversation with you before,' I smile, folding another top into the suitcase 'When I was moving into my own apartment?'

'I remember that,' she replies, 'A nerve racking experience. I was so worried about the both of you.'

'But you stopped worrying when you found out Claude was living right next door.'

'You were really annoyed, weren't you?'

'Yeah,' I laugh, remembering when I had first realized that Claude was my new neighbor. It was a horrible experience.

She chuckled 'You were so fragile before. But now you've grown up. I'm so happy and I just wish your mother was here to see you now,' her eyes were getting teary.

I reached to hold her hand 'I know she isn't here. But it doesn't matter,' I take a deep breath 'I'm fine. We're all fine without them.'

She looks up at me 'Raven-'

'No,' I interrup her 'It's alright.' I finish packing my suitcase.

'Okay then. I'll go downstairs now,' she gets up and I nod. She leaves my room, closing my door behind her.

I zip up my suitcase and lift it so it balanced at the corner of my room.

As I sit down on my bed, Claude comes into my room, carrying his suitcase and putting it next to mine. 'Are you done packing?' He asks, pouncing onto my bed.

'Yep,' I say, popping the p.

'Are you still hungry after all that chicken?' He smirks and I laugh.

'No. I'm full.'

He gasps over dramatically 'For the first time!' I push him away 'So then we'll get some sleep. We have a big day tomorrow. Are you excited?'

'So excited,' I say as he hugs me from behind, resting his head against my shoulder, chin on my collar bone.

'I'm glad you're excited. I've always wanted to live with you.'

'You've lived with me for the past ten years, Claude,' I remind him 'And you've lived right next to me for two years.'

'Not like that,' Claude tells me 'Like actually live with you, you know. Like wake up and--  No not that, um, just forget it,'

'I think I understand what you're trying to say,' I place my hand on his.

'You do?' He raises a brow.

I nod, running my hand through his golden hair. 'Yes I do you silly silly boy.' He grins, tightening his hold around me.

'I'm the silly silly boy, am I?' I nod again 'Well then if I'm the silly silly boy, are you my silly silly girl?'

'No.'

'No?! Why??' He looks worried for a second.

I laughed at his reaction, giving his hand a soothing stroke and saying 'I'm joking, idiot.'

'Oh.' He sighs in relief, 'You're right, I am silly silly.'

'Yeah you are now stop saying that. It's getting on my nerves. Let's just sleep now,' I yawn, stretching out my arms.

'Alright,' he says 'We're gonna have to wake up early anyway.'

General POV

'What are they doing now?' Mr Helston asked, pouring tea into the two mugs.

'Sleeping,' His wife replies, resting her head on her hand 'Presumably,'

'She really doesn't care about the death of her parents anymore does she?' He asked, and she replied with a nod 'Wow.'

'She even said so,' Mrs Helston sighed, remembering the conversation she had with Raven a few hours ago.

'Isn't that a good thing. Isn't that what they wanted?'

'It is but don't you think we should tell her the truth? We tried hiding it from her before and see what happened? Her and our son nearly got themselves killed!'

'Why do you worry so much, Jo?' Mr Helston whispered, reaching to hold her face.

'She was my best friend's only daughter. I promised to protect her...'

'So did Claude and I,' he interrupted her 'When are you going to stop blaming yourself for everything that happens to her?'

'When it stops being my fault.'

'It's not your fault!' He objected 'It was bound to happen and you know that. ' He massaged his forehead with his fingers 'Look, both of them are moving out tomorrow. Let's just look happy about it so it will be easier for them. They've been through a lot. They need our support.'

'I'm worried about them...' Her voice was a tone of genuine concern. Mr Helston walked towards her and gave her a comforting hug.

'They'll be alright,' he reassured his wife.
