Chapter 36

Raven's POV

'So then where should we start?' I asked Claude.

'I think we should start by talking to the people that really knew your parents, if they know anything about it.'

'The only people I know that are really close to my parents are your parents,' I tell him 'I think the Helstons may know something. I mean, they kept the fact that I was a demon a secret for so long, they may be hiding other things as well.'

'Well, that's true. But I don't think my mom knows anything and even if she did, she wouldn't be telling us.'

'Come on, Claude! We have to try!' I plead.

'Well fine,' He sighs, dialling the his parent's home number into the phone 'But don't blame me if they arent at all useful coz I know that aren't. '

'Whatever,' I roll my eyes as he hands me the phone which is still ringing 'They must know something...' I wait for them to pick up, the line still ringing on the other end. I was patient right until the ringing stopped and the last with the automated voice said 'The number is currently unavailable'

I call again and still there isn't a response.

'See?' Claude said smugly 'They don't even pick up let alone tell you anything.'

'What is your problem, dude?! You have literally no faith in your parents!'

'It's a good thing I don't. Listen Raven, you should know from experience that my parents are the least trustworthy people in this planet.'

'Yeah well, hiding the fact that I was a demon was for my own good. I would have freaked out anyway.' I cross my arms.

'Think about it, they could have told you sooner. And that chose Christmas of all joyous holidays to tell you.'

'That's besides the point!' I argue even if I've got to admit that Claude had made some valid points.

'Listen,' He sighs 'I agreed to help you and all but asking my parents for help is going to be a waste of our time! But it's fine if you don't want to listen to me, I mean, you do you...' He gets up from his seat and starts to walk off.

'Claude Helston get your ass back over here and help me!' I say. He stops in his tracks, lets out a sigh and the walls back to me. 'We're arguing like we're 12 again,'

'I know,' He admits 'It's just, I know what this investigation means to you but I don't want us wasting time on a dead end. I know for sure that my parents won't help us. Trust me, it's not that they're bad people or anything. It's just that they don't want to hurt you with the truth.'

'I'm already hurt,' I tell him 'But not by the truth. By the fact that they would hide all this from me, as if they don't trust me or something.' I look at him and he smiles at me to reassure me.

'Maybe they were just busy.' Claude finally says then adds 'That's probably why they didn't pick up,'

'Maybe you're right.' I reply 'But I know for certain they'll be at Dominic and Nancy's wedding so we'll as them then, okay?'

'Okay.'
