Chapter 31
Raven's POV
'Everything's my fault,' I cry, looking up at Claude 'All this running and hiding is all because of me!'
'Raven...' Claude sighed 'I told you so many times that it wasn't your fault-'
'How do you know that?!' I cut him off 'You don't even have any proof to prove that all this isn't my fault!'
'Hon, calm down.' Dominic suddenly interrupted between the two of us. 'Y'all need to stop thinking about what happened in the past. It's gonna seriously mess up the fun we're about to have in casa de la Dominic!'
'You're right.' I say, wiping my eyes. 'Allen was a douche bag. He deserved what he got.'
'That's the spirit!' Dominic encouraged 'Ain't no demon hunter gonna stop this demon fun!' He pulled both of us into a strong hug, Nancy came and hugged us too. It was this one big, long group hug. He then lets us all go, continuing to speak 'So I was thinking that we all give suggestions on what we should do.'
*****
After watching every single movie in the entire household, we were all pretty satisfied. Dominic has a collection of all these director's cuts and extended versions of different films. He say's it gives his life meaning to collect rare, hard to find deleted scenes from movies and we both heard Nancy make a loud scoff as she bought in the Chinese. Just to note, we ordered Chinese food for both lunch and dinner.
'So are you enjoying yourself?' Claude asked me as he picked up a spring roll from the small cardboard takeaway box.
'If you mean undergoing the entire Lord of the Rings franchise including bloopers and deleted scenes while binging on the tastiest of foods is not enjoyable, then you are sadly wrong, my love,' I smirk, poking his cheek.
'So is that a yes or a no?' He asks again, while crunching on the spring roll.
'What do you think it is?' I reply with another question. He chuckles, shaking his head.
I give him another smirk, before stuffing my face with some chow mein.
Claude picks up his glass of coke and raised it to his lips. And I've never noticed how he rests both his lips on the rim of the glass and sort of slurps it up. He catches my eye before I could look away. Laughing, he simply said 'If I bite down onto the glass, it'll shatter.' He puts the cup back down on the coffee table 'That's why I drink like that.'
'I used to do that too,' Dominic adds 'Before I could control my strength.'
'Do things usually break when you touch them?' I ask, intrigued 'How comes it hasn't happened to me yet?'
'Some are born able to control their strength, others need to learn. And then there's the case where some are quick learners and others aren't.' Dominic rests the side of his head on his knuckles before continuing 'Like how Claude's still struggling...'
I was expecting Claude to suddenly lash out in anger but surprisingly he doesn't 'Yeah, that's true,' He sighs 'But that's what happens when an absolute weakling is born into the family of the most powerful demons in the entire fucking world.'
'You aren't weak,' Dominic tells him ' You just have trouble limiting the amount of power you use.'
'My violin still breaks into pieces sometimes when I play it,' Claude reminded him 'The first time it happened my teacher nearly collapsed; she'd never seen something break so effortlessly in the hands of a 7 year old. I think she was in shock for almost a week.'
'One time, I tried to chop an onion and I broke the chopping board in half,' Nancy contributed to the conversation.
'I remember when that happened!' Dominic started to laugh. I giggled because Dominic's laugh sounds like a seagull shrieking.
'I think it makes sense now.' I say 'Because one time in a dance lesson, I was practicing this spin and when I hiy the mirror, the entire side of the wall broke down. Connie told me it was probably faulty construction but I still to this day can't believe I did that.'
'There you go,' Dominic have a little now with his head, lifting up his soft drink 'We've all had trouble controlling ourselves.' He had raised the glass almost above his head 'A toast to being a demon?'
We all raise our glasses even if my one is almost empty and toast. When we finished our 'dinner', I helped Dominic tidy up the coffee table which was scattered with takeaway boxes.
I went upstairs to where Claude was. I hadn't been upstairs before. Just like the bottom floor, everything seemed newly bought. Dominic followed and soon, we were all gathered in the bedroom.
'Why don't you both stay over for the night?' Nancy asked hopefully.
'That sounds like a good idea!' I say ' Claude, can we stay over?'
'I don't see why not.' He shrugged. I gave him a wide grin.
'Okay, I'll show you two to the guest room,' Dominic started to leave the room. We began to follow him.
'No,' Nancy stopped him suddenly 'I mean, like a sleepover. Guys in one room and girls in the other. I call dibs for this room.'
'Babe.' Dominic sighed, stressing the way he said it 'Babe please. You can't do this to me.' Nancy gave him this look and suddenly he sprang back up 'Yeah, yeah sure! A sleepover sounds fun!! Come here, Claude...' He pulled his cousin by the shoulder to the first room.
Nancy giggles, closing the door. 'So Raven, make yourself at home.' I looked around the room, sitting myself down on the bed afterwards.
'Everything looks so bright and shiny and new,' I admit.
'That's because it is,' She chuckles softly 'We only bought this house a few months ago.'
'It's nice,' I say 'Moving in with Dominic and getthing married to him. He seems to really love you.'
'He does, doesn't he?' She sits herself next to me ' And Claude seems to love you very much as well.'
'Oh,' I blush 'Well, I don't know about that but...I mean we are dating and all but-'
'He loves you.' She says again 'I can see it.' And she turns to me, her hazel eyes beaming and her short, light brown hair framing her pretty face 'Isn't it obvious from the way he looks at you?' I don't know. I've never seen him look at me. And even if I have, it didn't look any different than how she was making it out.
'Listen, Claude and I barely know anything about each other-'
'Really?' She raises her perfect brow 'Is that why he spews out Raven trivia every thanksgiving?'
'He does that?' I blush again 'But I've never seen him do it-'
'Baby, just because you can't see it doesn't mean it ain't happening.' She turns back around 'I mean, I've never witnessed it but I've heard Dominic tell me that he'd always talk about how smart and beatiful you were and now it wasn't fair that someone can be so amazing.
'And Raven, I hadn't met you until recently but I have to admit, you're everything he described you as.'
'A dumb bitch?' Claude always used to call me that.
'No.' She shook her head 'How your eyes look like emeralds and your hair was so silky and now he thought you looked so cute when you smiled.'
'He really said that about me?' I raised my eyebrow 'For real? When was this even?'
'Well Dominic told me it was near your 16th birthday or something...' She furrowed her brows, thinking hard 'Yeah, that's when it was. Apparently, it was Claude's 16th birthday a few weeks before yours and while you were out with your friends, Claude had invited Dominic over. You know, Dominic and I were in our final year at high school then...'
'Were you guys dating by then?' I asked curiously.
'Yes,' She blushed 'My dad wasn't really happy about it though,'
'Because he didn't want you dating?' I guessed.
'Because he was a demon.'
'But,' I turn to her 'Aren't you a demon too?'
'Half demon,' She corrects ' My mother's a demon and my dad didn't find out until I started high school. Well, he couldn't really be angry with his wife and daughter being what they are but when he found out that Dominic was a demon, well...'
'He flipped out?'
'Yep.' She laughed ' So after two solid years of persuading him, he finally accepted him. And after that, Dominic straight up proposed to me.'
'Was it romantic?' I ask.
'Of course it was! It was the most romantic thing he'd ever done. Probably the most dangerous as well.'
'How?'
'Well, I'm one of the very first half demons to be married into the Helston family. Their bloodline has been pure for centuries now and to think I may be breaking that streak.'
'Do that hate you?'
'No, if course not,' She waved her hand in a dismissive way 'Times have changed now and it really doesn't matter anymore.'
'Okay.' I say 'But do you think they would hate me if I got married into their family? I don't even know if I'm a pure demon or not.'
'What do you mean 'if you got married'?' She glanced at me in a suspicious way 'Are you dating what I think your saying??'
'No!' I blush violently 'It's just an 'if'-'
'You want CLAUDE TO MARRY YOU, DON'T YOU, SWEETHEART??!!' She yelled in joy.
'Shhhh!!' I try and cover her mouth 'They might hear you!!'
'Well, why don't you want them to hear us?' She wiggled her eyebrows.
'Just be quiet about it!' I say ' And please don't tell Claude about this!!'
(A/N I'm back from my Easter Holiday but I have nothing to complain about here is a chapter so enjoy)
