Chapter 28
I take a slice of cake up to my room. It was a red velvet cake and red velvet cakes are my favourite. I just wish there were less stairs in this manor because I honestly cannot climb them every single time I want to get to my room. I sat myself in the middle of the staircase with the plate still in my hand.
Ever since we came here, I don't think I've had a proper meal; it's always been icecream of cake or donuts. I'm not complaining or anything. I just thought if it carried on it'd screw up my health in some way.
Claude was coming down the stairs until he saw me sitting on a middle step still eating my cake. He smiled a bit and then sat down on the step below. Now his head was convenient enough to use as a table; I placed my plate in his head.
'Hey!' He complained but didn't move in case the plate dropped.
'Shh. You're my table,' I tell him, eating the cake off the top of his head. He didn't seem to mind anymore because after that he just stopped talking and stayed completely still, probably imitating a table. 'You can talk you know...' I reminded him 'Just don't move around.'
'Since when have you ever seen a talking table?' He asks, crossing his arms in a snobish manner.
'Since right now,' I tell him, lifting up my plate slightly and then propping it back on his head so it mad the tinest thump noise. He didn't react.
We were in silence again until I finished the cake and placed it on the step. Getting up, I hoped that Dante or Virgil would probably pick it up on their way down. Somehow it felt like a lazy thing to do but then again who was bothered to go down and climb back up another flight of stairs just to put it in the kitchen sink.
I want down the remainder of stairs and made it down to the hallway where our room was. There was no light on in the long corridor but I was used to it enough to find my way to my room. I didn't turn back but I could tell that Claude was at least three feet behind me. I didn't know whether he was following me or just getting to his room but as soon as I stopped in front of my room he did as well.
'If you still angry, I could sleep in the other room again...' He pointed at the bed of the corridor and you could tell by his gestures that he was hesitant.
'Um...' I thought for a second, 'No, it's fine.' I open the door, indicating that he followed in with me 'Or more accurately: I'm fine.'
'You sure?' He rubbed the back of his neck, stepping back out the door 'I'm alright with sleeping in the room next door...'
I smirked, pulling him back in by the collar of his shirt 'I'm sure.'
'Okay...' He breathed, looking down at me with tired yet longing eyes 'As long as you're fine with it.' It was awkward after that. He just looked at me and I did the same until finally be spoke again 'I need to tell you something...'
'Yes?' I replied, half yawning and still looking up at him.
'I need to tell you.' He said again, this time in a lower voice, as if a moan. 'I have to.'
'Go on.'
'I can't.' He simply said and finally looked away from me. He didn't even bother changing out of his clothes and went straight to bed.

'He's still sleeping.' I tell Virgil, yawning and sitting myself down on the table. He came back with a bowl of something. 'Porridge? I hate porridge though...' I moan 'It's so bland and tasteless! It's basically just the food form of a douche bag.'
'Eat up,' Virgil simply told me as if he were my mother 'It's golden syrup flavoured plus I added bluberries.'
'Still...' I cringed as I spooned a large oaty chunk from the bowl, spotting a couple of blueberries. I forced it in my mouth and swallowed, still feeling it stuck in my throught even though it was gone. The golden syrup flavouring only made it bearable.
'Porridge is healthy,' Virgil preached 'Don't you want to be healthy, Raven?'
'Not if it means gulping the very essence of hell,' I say bitterly, forcing down another spoonful.
'Very good.' He smiled as if me eating this dreadful slop was amusing to him.
After about half an hour, Claude came down wearing a plain maroon t shirt and sweatpants. He looked like he had gotten enough sleep and his hair looked sort of wet so I assumed he had taken a shower.
'Porridge, sir?' Virgil suggested.
'I'll pass.' He tells him in a sort of low, groggy time. He sits beside me and drinks a glass of Apple juice instead. 'Want to go out somewhere today?'
'Where?' I ask, trying to say it in a calm voice because I got too excited when he said it.
'Anywhere.' He replied. 'We can go to the town, if you'd like that. Maybe watch a movie or something?'
'That sounds alright,' I admit them add 'Or we could go visit Josie or Dominic or something outside town...'
He didn't reply immediately. It took him a couple of seconds to answer 'We can't, remember. The police are probably still looking for us.'
'Oh,' I say, a bit put off with the whole idea now 'That's fine then. We'll just watch a movie or something.'
'You don't have to if you dont want to.' He reminded me.
'No it's fine,' I lie 'We'll go.'
He gave long with before saying 'Fine. I'll see if we can go visit Dominic or something.'
I tried to hide my excitement again 'Why the sudden change in mind?' I give him a smug smile.
'Because...' He placed a hand on my cheek 'I can't bear to see you all sad like that.'
'You dork!' I exclaim, playfully pushing him away.
