Chapter 32: Undyne The Traitor
Fell MK: Yeah, whatever, loser. Don’t die before I get my shot at Undyne.
As Fell Monster Kid disappeared from view, Blue and Flowey continued their trek through Waterfall. The encounter left a strange sense of unease in the air, but Blue was unfazed.
Fell Flowey: That kid’s crazy. Who talks about killing Undyne like it’s nothing?
Blue: He is just a kid, Flowey. He doesn’t understand what he’s talking about.
Fell Flowey: Whatever....
Blue didn’t respond to that. He could feel it too, the tension in the air, the hostility. Every step they took through this version of Waterfall seemed to press down on them.
It was like the entire area was watching, waiting for the right moment to strike. But Blue stayed focused, his eyes scanning the path ahead.
Blue: Just stay close, Flowey. We’ll get through this.
Fell Flowey: I'm staying on your shoulder regardless.....
And so, the two pressed forward, knowing full well that Undyne, the fierce and powerful warrior of this world, was waiting somewhere up ahead.
Blue and Fell Flowey continued walking through the damp, eerie paths of Waterfall, their footsteps echoing faintly in the hollow caves. As they rounded a corner, they stumbled upon a familiar sight.
Fell Sans, standing lazily at his makeshift station, an echo of what Blue had seen countless times in his own universe. This time, however, Fell Flowey seemed genuinely confused.
Fell Flowey: Wait, how did he get here so fast? He was just in Snowdin!
Blue: It's Sans. I expected this.
Fell Sans looked up as they approached, a lazy grin crossing his face as if he’d been expecting them all along.
Fell Sans: Oh hey, didn’t expect ya so soon. Waterfall's a nice place for a walk, huh?
Blue: You know why we’re here. Tell me more about Undyne.
Sans’s grin faded slightly, and he leaned back against his station, arms crossed. His expression grew more serious as he began to speak.
Fell Sans: Undyne? Heh, now there’s a piece of work. Used to be the Captain of the Royal Guard, back when she was in Asgore's good graces. But she got it in her head that she could challenge him for power, thought she was stronger than the king.
Blue: Challenge King Asgore? My Undyne would never-
Fell Sans: Yeah, well, your world ain’t this one, kid. In this place, she wanted more. Got real full of herself. So she attacked the king, tryin' to take him down and seize control.
Blue frowned, trying to imagine the version of Undyne he knew ever attacking Asgore. It just didn’t seem like her. She had been fiercely loyal to him.
Fell Sans: Of course, she lost. Big time. King Asgore put her in her place and banished her here to Waterfall. Now, she’s been stuck here for...who knows how long. Isolation’s messed with her head a bit, y’know? She’s gone a little off the deep end, if you catch my drift.
Blue: So she’s been abandoned?
Fell Sans: Pretty much. A few monsters think she’s gotta go, like my brother. Papyrus used to look up to her, thought she was cool. That was before she went all rogue. Now, he just wants her dead.
Blue: Papyrus? Wants her dead?
Fell Sans nodded, leaning forward slightly.
Fell Sans: Yeah. Kinda funny, right? Your Papyrus looked up to her, but mine? He did too, once upon a time. But now he thinks she’s a threat to the kingdom, and Papyrus? Well, he’s a bit of a stickler for order in his own...chaotic way.
Blue thought back to his own universe. The Papyrus he knew was the exact opposite, so full of admiration for Undyne’s strength and sense of justice. He’d never imagine his Papyrus turning against her.
Blue: Undyne is supposed to be a symbol of justice and power...but here she’s just...lost.
Fell Sans: Well, this place twists everyone up a bit. But hey, from what you told me back at Grillby's, I think you’ll be fine if you run into her. She might be a bit unhinged, but you? You’re tougher than you look.
Fell Flowey, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up.
Fell Flowey: S-So, is she like...super dangerous? Should we even be going near her?
Fell Sans: Oh, she’s dangerous all right. But it’s not like you got a choice. You’re gonna have to pass through her territory to keep movin'. Just...don’t piss her off more than she already is.
Blue took a deep breath. Fell Sans was right. There was no other way but forward, and if Undyne had lost her mind in this universe, he would have to be prepared for anything.
Blue: Thank you for the heads up, Sans.
Fell Sans: Don’t mention it. Just keep your cool, and maybe you won’t end up on her spear.
Fell Sans gave them a lazy wave before disappearing from his station, leaving Blue and Fell Flowey alone again.
Fell Flowey: Great...just what we needed. A crazy fish lady with a grudge.
Blue: We’ll get through this, Flowey. Let’s keep moving.
And with that, they pressed forward into the heart of Waterfall, the weight of Undyne’s impending presence looming over them like a storm on the horizon.
Blue and Fell Flowey made their way cautiously into the deeper, darker recesses of Waterfall. The sound of trickling water echoed off the damp cavern walls, mingling with the occasional whisper of wind that swept through.
As they approached a clearing, Blue’s sharp eyes caught movement above them, someone was there, watching. Instinctively, he motioned to Fell Flowey, and the two ducked behind a large bush.
Peeking through the leaves, Blue saw her.
Fell Undyne stood on a platform just above them, her menacing form silhouetted against the faint glow of the Waterfall’s light sources. Even without her armor, she was intimidating.
Her long red hair flowed down her back, contrasting sharply with the blue of her scaled skin. Her single visible yellow eye scanned her surroundings with sharp focus, while her eyepatch covered her other eye, giving her an even more dangerous look.
She wore a short black shirt, marked by a red heart outline, and long red gloves that extended up her arms. Her pants were fitted with a massive wrestling-style belt, similar to Fell Papyrus’s, and her red boots stomped the ground with quiet authority.
She didn’t have her signature armor, but somehow, the lack of it made her seem even more terrifying, raw, unprotected, but still utterly dangerous.
Fell Undyne stood still for a moment, her sharp, predatory gaze sweeping the area as if she could feel something was wrong.
Her sharp yellow teeth glinted in the low light as her lips curled into a slight frown, almost as if she could sense Blue and Fell Flowey’s presence. Blue held his breath, watching her carefully.
After what felt like an eternity, Fell Undyne finally moved on, leaping gracefully from the platform and disappearing into the shadows beyond.
Blue and Fell Flowey exhaled in relief, but their moment of quiet was interrupted. Fell Monster Kid popped up from seemingly nowhere, as was his annoying habit.
His mean eyes gleamed with a twisted sense of excitement, his usual swearing tone giving him away immediately.
Fell MK: Did ya see that? Undyne looks weak without her armor! This is our shot! If we can kill her now, I can take her place! That’d be so cool, huh?
Blue straightened up but remained calm, his eyes narrowing slightly. He had no intention of killing Undyne, no matter how different this world was.
He understood that things were darker here, but that didn’t mean he had to follow their rules.
Blue: I’m not killing Undyne.
Fell MK: What the hell, man?! She’s a traitor! She went against King Asgore! We’re supposed to take her down, or she’ll just come after us later! You think you’re better than us, huh?
Blue didn’t rise to the bait. He turned to leave, motioning for Fell Flowey to follow. Fell Flowey, still perched on Blue’s shoulder, remained silent but clearly shared Blue’s reluctance.
Fell MK was furious. He stomped his foot on the ground and yelled after them.
Fell MK: Oh, so you’re just gonna walk away?! Coward! You’re no better than she is, you weak piece of-!
Blue kept walking, ignoring the angry outbursts behind him. Fell Flowey glanced back nervously but trusted Blue’s decision.
Fell Flowey: Are you sure about this? What if she comes after us?
Blue: If she does, we’ll deal with it. But we’re not killing anyone unless we have to. Not like this.
As they moved forward, Fell Monster Kid’s voice grew distant, his string of swears echoing faintly in the background. Blue kept his pace steady, his mind already focused on what lay ahead.
He could feel the tension in the air, the weight of this dark universe pressing down on him, but he was determined to keep his morals intact.
The journey ahead was going to get tougher, especially with Undyne lurking in the shadows, but Blue would face it the same way he always did: calm, collected, and ready.
Blue and Fell Flowey pressed onward through the winding paths of Waterfall, the ambient sounds of water cascading over rocks creating a serene backdrop to their journey.
As they walked, they came across an area where the walls were covered in strange writings and etchings. Intrigued, Blue stepped closer to inspect them, while Fell Flowey perched on his shoulder, squinting at the symbols.
The writings told a harrowing tale, chronicling the War between Humans and Monsters, a conflict marked by bloodshed and betrayal. Blue recognised the familiar history, having read about it countless times.
He felt a wave of melancholy wash over him as he recalled the darkness that had once consumed both races.
Fell Flowey: So, you really stopped that long feud? You made peace between both sides?
Blue: I did. It wasn’t easy, but we managed to find common ground. It took time, and a lot of sacrifice, but we got there.
Fell Flowey's expression shifted from skepticism to disbelief, then finally settled on admiration.
Fell Flowey: You....You really did that? Someone like you exists? I mean, with all the monsters I’ve seen, it feels impossible that any of them would ever change!
Blue couldn’t help but smile slightly, touched by Flowey's newfound appreciation. Waterfall had always held a special place in his heart.
He had often used the tranquil environment to gather his thoughts, adjust his mind, and reflect on the weight of his journey.
Blue: Every time I’m here, I think about how different things could be. But now...I know there are other universes, and other beings who are capable of worse things than I can even imagine.
He thought about Mettaton, who had been a star in his original universe but was killed because of Scourge. But that wasn’t the only thought weighing on his mind; he felt there was someone even more sinister behind it all.
Blue: There’s a mastermind out there, someone pulling the strings. I can feel it, and now I’m part of this mess.....Scourge seems like the type to work under someone.
As they continued deeper into the midsection of Waterfall, Blue's instincts began to tingle with unease. Suddenly, a piercing scream cut through the air, and they barely had time to react before Fell Undyne burst onto the scene, her eyes wild and unfocused.
Fell Undyne: A human! Here? Now?!
Without waiting for a response, she lunged at Blue, her spear whirling around her with deadly precision. Blue quickly dodged to the side, his mind racing.
He was aware that Undyne had been driven nearly mad by her isolation, and this was not the time for hesitation.
Blue: Flowey, stay back
Fell Undyne unleashed a flurry of attacks, launching spears imbued with green soul magic at Blue. He narrowly avoided them, relying on his agility as he sidestepped the deadly projectiles.
The battle began in earnest, with Blue focusing solely on using his fists. He’d seen how strong Undyne was, and he refused to underestimate her.
The fight was intense but brief, Undyne was indeed stronger than her counterpart, but Blue’s experience shone through as he moved fluidly, evading her strikes and landing a few solid punches.
He noticed her frustration grow as she struggled to keep up with his quick movements.
Blue: You don’t have to do this, there’s still a chance for you
But Undyne was far too lost in her rage and isolation to listen to Blue's calming voice. She swings another spear at him, Blue ducked and caused a diversion by kicking a nearby rock into the air, distracting her momentarily.
Seizing the opportunity, Blue made a swift escape into the shadows.
Fell Flowey: That was insane! You really just....fought her with your bare hands! But what other weapons do you have? All I’ve seen are those shields of yours!
Blue: I have a few weapons, like blades and other gear. But I prefer to keep them hidden unless absolutely necessary. If we run into Undyne again, I might have to reveal them. It’s not a fight I want to take lightly.
Fell Flowey: Yeah, I think it’s a good idea to be prepared. This place is already making me feel jumpy.
With their path ahead uncertain, Blue nodded in agreement. They continued onward, both ready for whatever challenge awaited them in the depths of Waterfall.
As Blue and Fell Flowey ventured deeper into Waterfall, they sensed that they weren't alone. The eerie silence was suddenly shattered when Fell Undyne came crashing down from above, her spear gleaming in the dim light.
Fell Undyne: You thought you could sneak past me? Not a chance, human!
Without hesitation, Blue's hands morphed into sleek, sharp blades, the metallic sound ringing out as he prepared for battle.
Blue: I don’t want to hurt you, but if you insist...
Undyne lunged at him, spear extended, her movements swift and precise. But Blue was faster, deflecting each blow with ease.
His blades clashed with her spear in a dance of metal and sparks, but it became clear within moments that this was no even match.
The fight was one-sided, heavily in Blue’s favor. He moved effortlessly, dodging Undyne’s furious attacks while landing calculated strikes that forced her on the defensive.
Despite her strength and tenacity, she couldn’t comprehend how this human....no, this being, was so far beyond her.
Fell Undyne: How...how are you doing this?! You’re just a human!
Before she could press her attack again, a sharp voice cut through the air.
Fell Papyrus: Undyne! You thought you could avoid your fate?!
Papyrus appeared, stepping out from the shadows, his red bones already at the ready. He had been waiting for this moment to strike.
Fell Papyrus: You traitor! I’ve waited long enough to end this. Asgore will reward me handsomely when I bring him your head, and this human’s soul!
Fell Undyne: Hah! You think you can kill me? You’re nothing, Papyrus. I’ll gut you here and now, and then take his soul for myself!
The tension between the two escalated, their desire to kill each other burning in their eyes. Just as they were about to clash, Blue swiftly intervened, kicking both of them hard to the ground before they could make a move.
Blue: Enough!.....I didn’t come here to watch you two tear each other apart.
Both Papyrus and Undyne were momentarily stunned, the power behind Blue’s strike catching them off guard. As they scrambled back to their feet, their murderous intent remained.
Fell Papyrus: I must kill Undyne to appease King Asgore! And you, your soul will complete his plan!
Fell Undyne: You fool, Papyrus! I'll kill you first, then take his soul to overthrow Asgore myself!
Blue stood tall, his blades still glinting in the light as he looked between the two of them, his expression cold and unyielding.
Blue: There’s just one problem with your little plan.
Both of them paused, glaring at him, waiting for his response.
Blue: I don’t have a soul.
Fell Papyrus and Fell Undyne: W-What?!
The shock in their voices was unmistakable, their confusion evident as they processed what Blue had just said.
Blue: Yes, I'm not like other humans. So whatever schemes you have involving my soul? They won’t work. Now, what you're going to do is stop the fighting and let me pass.
Fell Undyne and Fell Papyrus exchanged glances, both incredulous at the revelation. The idea of a human without a soul threw them completely off balance. Yet, their resolve to fight burned just as strong.
Fell Papyrus: We don't care if you have a soul or not! The fight must continue!
Fell Undyne: I'm not leaving without killing someone, mainly you, Papyrus!
Blue narrowed his eyes, the intensity of his presence making both of them flinch.
Blue:.....Then I’ll kill you both right now.
Though on the outside he looked deadly serious, Blue had no real intention of killing them. But they didn’t need to know that. His calm, unwavering voice and the menace in his gaze were enough to convince them that he meant business.
Both Papyrus and Undyne stood frozen for a moment, the reality of Blue’s threat hanging heavily in the air. There was something about him that....scared them, as if he was much stronger than they expected.
Reluctantly, they backed down.
Fell Papyrus: Fine...but this isn't over, human!
Fell Undyne: You got lucky today, human.
Blue turned his hands back to normal, the metallic blades retracting as if they had never existed. He glanced back at Flowey, who had been watching nervously from his shoulder the entire time.
Blue: Let's go, Flowey
As they began to walk away, Blue could feel the eyes of Papyrus and Undyne still burning into his back. They weren’t happy about it, but they had no choice but to let him pass. As they continued toward the Hotlands, Flowey finally spoke up.
Fell Flowey: You weren’t actually going to kill them, right?
Blue: No. I wasn’t. But sometimes, you have to say things to get the outcome you need.
Fell Flowey: Man, I thought you were serious for a second there!
Blue: Trust me. We have enough enemies to deal with. But Undyne....we may encounter her again.
Fell Flowey: So...what happens if we do?
Blue: I might have to show you the full extent of what I can do....or still resort to only a part of it
The two moved forward, leaving behind the chaos of Waterfall and entering the searing heat of the Hotlands, with the weight of more battles looming over them.
As Blue and Fell Flowey entered the Hotlands, the atmosphere shifted from the damp chill of Waterfall to the oppressive, dry heat of the volcanic region.
The fiery glow of magma pits illuminated their path, casting long shadows across the metallic floors.
Unlike Waterfall, Blue wasn’t interested in taking in the sights, he had seen it all before, albeit in a less grim version. His focus was on the task ahead, moving forward without hesitation.
Eventually, they came upon a familiar structure, a laboratory looming in the distance. The building was stark against the Hotlands' glow, its steel doors standing out ominously. Fell Flowey glanced up at the lab, clearly unfamiliar with it.
Fell Flowey: What is this place?
Blue: It's Alphys' lab...well, their version of Alphys.
Flowey seemed confused, but Blue’s mind was already racing. If this Alphys was anything like the one he knew, she would be critical to understanding the bigger picture of this universe.
But he wondered, what would Fell Alphys be like? More calculating? Cruel? He steeled himself as they entered.
The interior was dim, cloaked in darkness, but they pressed forward, the sound of their footsteps echoing in the empty corridors.
The air was thick with an unsettling tension, and Fell Flowey’s petals rustled nervously as they ventured deeper.
Suddenly, the lights flickered on, revealing the lab in all its unsettling glory. Computers and monitors hummed quietly, casting a pale glow over various equipment.
Blue’s eyes locked onto the figure standing at the far end of the room. Fell Alphys stood there, her yellow, lizard-like form distinct, though she was quite different from the Alphys Blue remembered.
Her sharp head was accentuated by large hypno glasses, swirling patterns reflected in their lenses. She wore a white lab coat over a striped shirt that was a mix of red and black.
Her face dripped with sweat, whether from nervousness or excitement, Blue couldn’t tell. She looked at him with a predatory gleam in her eyes.
Fell Alphys: Welcome...human...or is that what you really are?
Her voice was filled with a cold detachment, her words laced with a dangerous edge. Blue could immediately sense that this Alphys was far more sinister than the one he had known.
There was something unsettling in the way she stared at him, like he was a subject of some twisted experiment rather than a visitor.
Blue: I’ve heard about you. You’re the scientist here, aren’t you?
Fell Alphys: I am. And you...you’re quite the interesting specimen. But don’t worry, I don’t need to dissect you...yet.
Blue:.....At least I know that this isn't the Alphys I knew
Fell Flowey’s eyes widened, but Blue remained calm, unshaken by her thinly veiled threat.
Fell Alphys: Tell me, Blue. You’re not like the others, are you? You don’t fit the mold of the human I was expecting to arrive here. In fact, I doubt you’re entirely human at all.
Blue narrowed his eyes. It seemed that Fell Alphys was already suspicious of him, but he didn’t show any signs of concern.
Blue: What do you know about me?
Fell Alphys: Not much yet, but I will. You see, I like to study things, especially things that don’t belong. And you, my dear Blue, don’t belong.
Her words were dripping with arrogance, her demeanor unsettlingly casual for someone who clearly held little regard for the well-being of others.
Fell Alphys enjoyed experimenting, on anything, anyone, and from the rumors he’d heard in Snowdin, even living monsters and humans weren’t off-limits.
Blue: I’m not here for your games. I need information, and to move on
Fell Alphys: Oh, and why would I help you? What could you possibly offer me, Blue?
Blue took a deep breath, carefully considering his next words. He could already tell that Fell Alphys was more arrogant than Asgore.
And from what he knew about her experiments, she likely thought she held all the cards in this exchange. But he had something she didn’t, knowledge of the multiverse.
Blue: I know about your world. I know what you’ve done. But there’s something bigger going on here. A force you’re not aware of.
Fell Alphys narrowed her eyes behind her hypno glasses, intrigued by his words.
Fell Alphys: Oh? And what exactly would that be?
Blue: A being far worse than you or even Asgore. Someone who’s already been here....or is about to arrive.
