Chapter 30: Nothing Is The Same
Fell Toriel: You....You’ll come back?
Blue lowered his shield and nodded.
Blue: I promise. But I have to leave now. There’s something I need to do, and I can’t do it from here.
Toriel stared at him for a long moment, her yellow eyes filled with sorrow. Then, with a defeated sigh, she stepped aside, allowing Blue to approach the door.
Flowey looked at Blue in surprise, but he followed along silently, still unsure of what to think. As Blue opened the door, Toriel spoke one last time, her voice fragile and broken.
Toriel: Don’t....don’t make me regret this, child.
Blue glanced back at her, his expression softening.
Blue: You won’t.
Blue and Flowey stepped into the snowy forest, the eerie silence wrapping around them like a thick fog. The cold wind brushed against Blue's skin, but it didn’t bother him much.
What unsettled him was the oppressive atmosphere. He could feel something, or someone, watching them. Flowey clung tightly to Blue's shoulder, his voice a whisper
Fell Flowey: I-I don’t like this. I’ve got a bad feeling about what’s ahead...
Blue remained calm, his senses alert. He knew this place was dangerous, but he wasn’t worried. As they continued forward, the crunch of snow under his feet was the only sound until he suddenly felt it, the familiar presence.
Blue’s sharp instincts told him that someone was close, and he knew exactly who it was. A low chuckle echoed from behind.
???: Human....don’t you know how to greet a new pal? Turn around, and shake my hand.
Fell Flowey: Don’t do it! You can’t trust anyone in this world!
But Blue, calm and composed, turned around. Standing there in the shadows was Fell Sans, the familiar skeletal figure with glowing red eyes, but with a sharper, more dangerous edge to him than the Sans Blue knew.
Without hesitation, Blue reached out and shook Sans’ hand. A loud buzz filled the air as an electric shock went off, but Blue barely flinched. He didn’t feel a thing. Fell Sans, on the other hand, looked genuinely surprised.
Fell Sans: Huh? That didn’t get you?
Blue let go of his hand and shrugged.
Blue: An electrical buzzer? That was obvious.
Sans blinked, momentarily caught off guard, before letting out a dry laugh.
Fell Sans: Heh, well, you caught me. The ol' buzzer in the hand trick is getting too predictable these days.
He stuffed his hands into his jacket pockets, a faint smirk crossing his face.
Fell Sans: The name’s Sans. You’re the third human to come down here, y'know?
Blue: Third?
Fell Sans: Yeah. But don't worry, I ain’t gonna hunt you down. That’s my brother’s job. Papyrus, he’s the Boss around here, and he’s a real human-hunting maniac. You cross him, and he’ll take all the credit for finding you. Me? I’m just gonna sit back and let him do his thing. Doesn’t really matter to me either way.
Blue noted the stark difference between this Sans and the one from his universe. Fell Sans, like most monsters in Underfell, was darker, edgier.
He still had that laid-back, sarcastic vibe, but there was something colder about him, something harder.
He wasn’t the pun-loving, easygoing skeleton Blue had once called a friend. This Sans was more detached, even cynical, but in his own way, he still had a bit of charm.
Fell Sans: So...what’s your name, kiddo?
Blue: It’s Blue.
Fell Sans: Blue, huh? Well, nice to meet ya.
There was an awkward silence for a moment as Fell Sans sized Blue up, his eyes glowing faintly in the cold darkness. Then, with a lazy wave, he turned to leave.
Fell Sans: Well, I’ll catch you later. But heads up, Papyrus is probably already on your tail. You might wanna be careful.
He gave a casual nod before disappearing, blending into the shadows. Blue watched as Sans vanished. Despite his cold exterior, Sans hadn’t made any moves to harm him, at least not yet. Flowey, still tense, let out a sigh of relief.
Fell Flowey: That guy’s trouble. You shouldn’t have trusted him. He might not have killed you, but he’s not on our side.
Blue: I know. But I can handle him. Besides, it’s not him I’m worried about.
With that, Blue continued walking down the snowy path, his eyes scanning the area as he pressed on. The air around him felt heavier now, and he knew it wasn’t just the cold.
Somewhere in the distance, Papyrus, or rather...Boss Papyrus, was probably preparing to make his grand entrance. Flowey was quiet for a while as they moved forward, lost in thought.
He kept glancing at Blue, still trying to wrap his head around how this strange newcomer was so calm in a place as dangerous as Underfell.
Blue had already proven he could handle himself, but Flowey knew this world had a way of breaking even the strongest.
As they moved deeper into the forest, Blue could feel the presence of more monsters, lurking in the shadows, watching them from afar. But none of them dared to make a move yet.
They were waiting, probably for the right time, but something made them refuse to move....perhaps it might be fear?
Blue found himself wandering further into the snowy expanse, the forest gradually thinning until he came upon a small outpost. It was eerily familiar, looking almost exactly like the one from his universe.
There was even a conveniently shaped lamp standing nearby. A grin tugged at his lips as he recalled how Frisk had once used the lamp to hide from Papyrus.
As if on cue, the shadows stirred, and Fell Sans appeared again, leaning casually against the outpost wall.
Fell Sans: Oh hey, you made it. Surprised you didn’t die. But....do you really have time to rest? My boss is on his way, and, well...let’s just say, he’s not the patient type.
Blue tensed, already sensing the incoming presence of Fell Papyrus. Quickly, without a word, he ducked behind the conveniently shaped lamp, positioning himself exactly like how Frisk had done so long ago.
He couldn’t help but smile to himself. Would it work here, in this darker universe? Only one way to find out. Suddenly, a booming voice cut through the air.
Fell Papyrus: SANS!
The sheer volume of his voice made the ground tremble, and Blue had to admit, this version of Papyrus was terrifying. The air seemed to grow colder as Fell Papyrus marched forward, his red cape billowing in the icy wind.
He towered over Sans, his sharp teeth glinting, and his semi-closed eyes burning with intensity.
Fell Sans: Sup, Boss.
Fell Papyrus: You know what’s up, Lazy Bones! What are you doing?! You’re outside your station!
Fell Sans rolled his eyes, unfazed by his brother’s shouting. He kept his casual, laid-back demeanor as always, though Blue could tell there was an unspoken bond between the brothers, even in this twisted world.
It wasn’t hard to see the sarcasm and dry wit Fell Sans used to deal with his brother’s intense personality. Fell Papyrus was quite the sight to behold.
He was taller than the original Papyrus, with a scar cutting across his right eye and sharp teeth gleaming in the dim light.
His outfit was striking, he wore a red cape, a pointed black battle body with a golden symbol on the left side, and long red gloves that gave him a menacing appearance.
His trousers were black, held up by a belt that said Bad Boy in bold letters, and his red heels completed the fearsome look.
Blue’s thoughts were about how this was a dangerous version of Papyrus. He seemed to be more ruthless, calculating, and driven by the underground's harsh rules.
Yet, despite the intensity and aggression in the air, Blue could tell that deep down, these two brothers cared for each other. It reminded him of his world, albeit in a much darker, twisted way.
Sans and Papyrus still had that sibling connection, even if it manifested in constant bickering and sarcastic jabs.
Fell Papyrus: You're outside your post! You know you're supposed to be hunting humans! I am supposed to get all the credit, and you....are just....standing there? HMPH!
Sans: What can I say, Boss? Humans are hard to come by these days. It's not like they just fall into our laps, you know?
Papyrus narrowed his eyes, clearly unconvinced but not in the mood to argue. He snorted, a habit Blue quickly picked up on. He didn't laugh like the Papyrus he knew. Instead, he had this eerie, deep chuckle that sent shivers down the spine.
Fell Papyrus: MWAH HAW HAW! Lazy as always, Sans! You’ll never amount to anything if you keep slacking off! One of these days, I’ll finally take over the entire underground, and you’ll be left in the dust!
Blue, still hiding behind the lamp, thought to himself....."This universe is one terrifying place...". The contrast between this Papyrus and the one he knew was staggering.
Where his Papyrus was kind, goofy, and full of hope, Fell Papyrus was harsh, cold, and hungry for power.
Fell Sans: Yeah, yeah, Boss. World domination and all that. You’ve got it covered. I’m just here to watch the show.
There was something almost amusing about how Fell Sans referred to Papyrus as "Boss." It wasn’t just a title, it was a weird mix of respect and sarcasm.
In this world, both Sans and Papyrus looked as if they were trying hard to be the “cool and collected” brothers, but in different ways.
Their dynamic was tense, filled with jabs and arguments, but underneath it all, Blue could sense they still cared for each other, much like in his universe.
Fell Papyrus: Fine! Stay here and be useless, Sans. I will continue hunting humans and claim my rightful glory. HMPH!
With that, Papyrus stormed off into the snow, muttering to himself about plans for catching humans. His red cape flared dramatically as he disappeared into the distance, leaving Fell Sans and Blue alone once again.
Blue cautiously stepped out from behind the lamp, sighing in relief.
Blue: That was close.
Fell Sans: Heh. Told you my Boss was a real piece of work. Better watch your back, Papyrus doesn't give up easy. He’s not just tough, he’s....persistent.
Flowey, who had remained silent through the whole exchange, finally spoke up, still shaken by the encounter.
Fell Flowey: We need to keep moving. This place...it's more dangerous than you think.
Blue: Very true
Fell Sans: Hey, kid, if you’re really planning on surviving down here, you might wanna keep an eye on your surroundings. Not everyone’s as friendly as me, heh.
Blue didn’t need to be told twice. He knew this world was filled with monsters that were far more dangerous than the ones he knew. But he wasn’t scared. He’d been through enough to know how to handle himself.
Blue: I’ll keep that in mind.
With that, Blue and Flowey continued down the snowy path, the eerie silence returning as Fell Sans watched them leave, his grin fading slightly as he muttered to himself.
Fell Sans: Good luck, kid. You're gonna need it.
Blue and Fell Flowey were alone once again. Flowey grumbled under his breath, clearly not convinced about Sans' help, but Blue's calm demeanor kept things from escalating further.
Fell Flowey: He's going to get us killed, I swear.....I can't trust him
Blue: He does seem to be unpredictable, but I don’t think he’s trying to. Let's just keep going.
With that, the two continued on their path through the eerie, snow-covered forest. As they pressed forward, they encountered several monsters.
They had glowing red eyes, strange shadowy figures, showcasing that they were monstrous versions of the original Underground residents.
But Blue handled them all with ease. His calm, precise movements allowed him to dodge every attack, making it look effortless.
He never even drew a weapon, instead using well placed punches and kicks to send monsters crashing into the snow or a tree, incapacitating them without causing any real harm.
Fell Flowey watched in stunned silence, his wide eyes filled with a mix of awe and disbelief. He had never seen someone move like this before, so effortlessly dodging attacks and neutralizing threats without even breaking a sweat.
As they reached the next clearing, Fell Flowey couldn’t help but speak up.
Fell Flowey: How...how are you doing that? You’re not even trying.
Blue: I told you before, I’m stronger than I look. And trust me, I’m holding back a lot.
Flowey stared at him for a moment, absorbing the information. He started to feel a glimmer of hope, a hope that maybe, just maybe, Blue really could help them escape this hellish place.
But before he could say anything else, the pair reached the outskirts of Snowdin and found themselves face-to-face with both Fell Sans and Fell Papyrus once again.
Fell Papyrus stood tall, his sharp teeth gleaming as he laughed loudly, clearly excited about the situation.
Fell Papyrus: What is this? A human? A human was here all along?! MWAH HAW HAW HAW! I can already see it! King Asgore will reward me handsomely when I deliver you to him!
Blue didn’t flinch, but his mind was already turning over what Sans had mentioned earlier, he was the third human here. That meant two others had fallen before him.
One was certainly the Underfell version of Chara, but who was the second? Was it Frisk? Had she survived, or was she already in Asgore’s hands?
As if sensing Blue’s thoughts, Sans shot him a knowing look, a silent promise to explain everything later. Blue appreciated the gesture and gave him a subtle nod in return.
Fell Papyrus: Human! Be ready! Because I'll be engaging in combat right now!
But before Papyrus could launch an attack, Fell Sans intervened, his usual laid-back tone cutting through his brother’s fervor.
Fell Sans: Don’t you think we should...y'know, show our new human friend the wonders of Snowdin before we send him off to his doom?
Fell Papyrus:.....And why the hell should we do that?
Fell Sans: Why not? He can meet the other two.
There was a pause as Fell Papyrus considered his Brother's words, his sharp teeth grinding together in thought. After a moment, he reluctantly agreed.
Fell Papyrus: [Sighs] Fine! Come along, Human!
Blue: My name is Blue.
Fell Papyrus: Human Blue! We shall show you our wonderful town before I destroy you and send you to King Asgore!
Blue: Okay...
As they walked toward Snowdin, Flowey was visibly tense, nervously looking around as they passed through the dark, snowy woods. After a while, he couldn’t keep quiet any longer.
Fell Flowey: Blue, how strong are you, really?
Blue glanced down at the little flower on his shoulder and leaned in to whisper, his voice soft but reassuring.
Blue: Stronger than anyone here. Trust me.
Flowey visibly relaxed, letting out a small sigh of relief. But Blue quickly added a note of caution.
Blue: But...we might encounter someone else. Someone even stronger than me.
Fell Flowey: W-Who? Who could be stronger than you?
Blue: We’ll have to find out if that person is even here. But it’s best if we stay alert.
Flowey nodded, his fear still present but somewhat tempered by Blue’s words. The two skeleton brothers continued leading them toward Snowdin, with Blue staying focused and calm.
He was ready for whatever this twisted version of the Underground had in store for them next. As the group of four approached Snowdin, Blue’s mind drifted back to his first time visiting Snowdin in his own universe.
He remembered the festive, welcoming atmosphere, the cheerful monsters, and the quaint charm of the little town nestled in the snow.
The Christmas lights twinkled with warmth, the buildings cozy and inviting, and the scent of freshly baked goods lingered in the air. It had been a place of hope and camaraderie.
But this....Snowdin, was a different story.
The familiar decorations were still there, the Christmas lights strung up on the buildings, their soft glow casting faint patterns on the snow. But the atmosphere was far from joyful.
It felt oppressive, eerie. The monsters weren’t smiling or chatting with one another. Instead, they watched from the shadows, their eyes filled with suspicion, hostility, and a lingering sense of dread.
The once-welcoming town was now a place where danger lurked around every corner.
Fell Papyrus marched ahead, barking something about checking in on his patrols and how he would return soon. Fell Sans, lazily stretching his arms, mentioned he was heading back to his house.
Fell Sans: Well, Blue, flower, I’ve got some stuff to take care of. Why don’t you two look around for a bit? See the sights. Just....try not to die while you’re at it.
With that, he disappeared into the snow, leaving Blue and Flowey standing awkwardly in the middle of town.
Fell Flowey was immediately on edge. He could feel the weight of the monsters’ stares on them, like the entire town was sizing them up, deciding whether to attack or not.
Blue, on the other hand, remained completely neutral. His posture was relaxed, his movements fluid as he began walking through Snowdin as if he owned the place. It wasn’t arrogance, just a quiet confidence that radiated from him.
Flowey was less confident, glancing nervously at the shadows. The monsters in this world were far more aggressive than in Blue’s timeline, and it showed in their glares and tense body language. He could almost feel them itching to start a fight.
Fell Flowey: They’re watching us....they want to attack.
Blue didn’t respond at first, his eyes were scanning the town, analysing his surroundings. He noted how different everything was, how bleak and dangerous it all felt.
And yet, the Christmas lights were still there, their faint glow a reminder of what this place could have been in another world. A reminder of the life he knew in his own timeline.
When Flowey repeated his concern, Blue finally spoke, his voice as calm as ever.
Blue: They won’t. Not yet.
Fell Flowey: And what if they do?
Blue: Then I’ll deal with it. I can control the fight if it comes to that.
It wasn’t just bravado, Blue knew his capabilities. Despite the battles and challenges he had faced, he still had a certain detachment from everything.
His time as a cyborg had dulled his emotional responses, and though he had gone through significant character growth, learning to feel and understand emotions better.
There was still a part of him that struggled with grasping them like everyone else. It was both a strength and a weakness. In situations like this, it kept him calm, neutral, and clear-headed.
But in more emotional conflicts, it often left him disconnected from others, unable to fully relate to their fear, pain, or anger. As they walked through Snowdin, monsters continued to stare, their eyes filled with malice and hunger for violence.
But none made a move, and it added to the tension in the air. The quiet town felt like a powder keg, waiting for a single spark to ignite it.
Fell Flowey was trembling slightly now, glancing nervously at the monsters they passed.
Fell Flowey: I hate this place....they’re all waiting for an excuse to tear us apart. How are you so calm?
Blue glanced down at the flower on his shoulder, his blue eyes briefly softening with understanding, even if he couldn’t fully feel what Flowey was going through.
Blue: I’ve seen worse. Besides...I’ve been through this before, in a way. Different world, different rules, but the same basics. Stay focused, because we’ll be fine.
Flowey gave a small, uncertain nod, trusting Blue even though the tension gnawed at his every instinct. The two continued walking, passing houses and shops that looked abandoned or boarded up.
Occasionally, a face would peer out from a cracked window or a monster would mutter something under their breath as they passed.
Fell Sans returned, appearing casually from the shadows as he often did, gesturing for Blue and Fell Flowey to follow him.
Fell Sans: Alright, enough sightseeing. You two are coming to my place. Time to meet the others.
Blue, maintaining his calm demeanor, nodded, while Flowey was visibly tense. The three started walking (Flowey was actually on Blue's shoulder) through Snowdin, heading toward the skeleton brothers' house.
Blue took the opportunity to ask something that had been on his mind.
Blue: Why are there two humans with you? I thought Asgore would have taken them by now.
Sans shrugged, keeping his hands tucked in his pockets as he spoke, his tone nonchalant as usual.
Fell Sans: Well, one of 'em's Asgore's adopted Daughter. Chara. She's uhh....complicated. The other one's a girl named Frisk. Fell down here not too long ago.
Blue:....So why hasn't Frisk been sent to Asgore?
Sans chuckled, his smirk widening as if the situation was somehow amusing to him.
Fell Sans: Papyrus likes her company for some reason. Keeps her around, y'know, as entertainment or somethin'. Oh, and one more thing, after a while, like a month or two, the funniest shit happened
Blue: What is the joke?
Fell Sans: Well, the girls started getting...frisky with each other.
Blue: Frisky?
Fell Sans: Yeah, y'know. They’re a thing now. Like, a relationship.
Flowey, perched on Blue’s shoulder, seemed both shocked and conflicted at the thought.
Fell Flowey: So Chara...and this other human....are a thing?!
Fell Sans: That’s what I said. They’re not bad, really. Might be a little, uh....intense, but they’re good people once you get past the whole murderous vibe.
Blue processed the information silently, thinking about how strange and unexpected this universe continued to be.
In his mind, he hadn’t expected Chara or Frisk to have such a relationship, but it didn’t bother him as long as they were both happy.
Blue: As long as they’re both happy.....
When they finally arrived at Sans and Papyrus’s house, Sans opened the door with a casual wave, motioning for Blue and Flowey to step inside.
Immediately, Blue and Flowey's eyes landed on the two humans sitting on the sofa.
Fell Frisk.
And Fell Chara.
Chara, in this universe, didn’t know about Flowey’s true identity as Asriel, something that was still a secret to her.
Both girls looked....meaner, much like everyone else in Underfell. Frisk had the same red, piercing eyes as Chara, and their clothes were eerily similar.
Fell Flowey: Why do they both look like they want us dead?!
Chara was the first to speak, her voice sharp and dripping with sarcasm.
Fell Chara: Hey, trashbag. Why’d you bring them here?
Sans, leaning against the wall, shrugged like he didn’t have a care in the world.
Fell Sans: Well, I thought I might as well after I told ya they were here.
Fell Frisk chimed in, her voice just as biting as Chara’s, though she seemed more annoyed than aggressive.
Fell Frisk: A bad idea. Then again, you're full of them, Sans.
Blue observed the two girls carefully, noting how even Frisk, who in his universe was always kind-hearted and determined, had been twisted by this universe’s cruel atmosphere.
In his mind, he couldn’t help but think about how different everything was here....how the corruption of the Underground had reached even the most innocent souls.
