𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝟏: Keira - chemistry

Okay.

Before I start, I'd like to make one thing clear: This is not my fault.

"Are you seriously saying, that my daughter set the chemistry lab on fire?"

That's my Mum, and I'm her just mentioned daughter.

And no, I did not set the chemistry lab on fire.

"I understand that you're upset Mrs Wild, but-"

"No! NO! Are you even listening to yourself?! This girl-"

Now she's pointing at me and I'm smiling at her. Bad idea, now the headmistress thinks, that I think this whole situation is like the funniest thing on earth (and it is not!)

Plus, years ago, when I was a little fat kid, my friend once told me that I smile like some psychopath (I swear: My smile may not be as warm as the sun or something, but it is not that bad!)

"This girl would NEVER set anything on fire!"

My Mom seems to need oxygen, she breathes kind of loudly. Oh, and her eyes sparkle, as always when she's angry.

Same thing happens to me, by the way. Both of us are always about to cry, when we're angry.

It's kind of annoying, actually.

"Look. I – I couldn't imagine it either, if I wouldn't have been there! But I saw it!"

"Well, then tell me. How did Keira do it?!"

The headmistress leans down in her chair. Hers is way more comfortable than our chairs are – I mean, she's basically sitting in an armchair, while me and Mum have to sit on those old wooden things.

My butt hurts.

"So.", the headmistress sighes. "I was just walking through the lab, because I wanted to talk to their teacher, Mr Oilwayne. Mr Oilwayne was standing next to your daughter, Keira. He told her to put the Bunsen burners away-"

"Why were there even those burners? Isn't that a mistake in your safety system?!", asks my mum aggressively.

"We were experimenting. With those flames, you know?", I say. Actually, I can't even remember. I hate chemistry and on that day, the stuff we learned (or in my case- immediately forgot again) was the least important thing in the world.

"Whatever! What happened next?"

"So, I started talking to Mr Oilwayne. Behind him, Keira started to put the burners away. But suddenly-", the headmistress looks straight at my Mum. "Suddenly, a flame burst out of the Bunsen burner, and the jackets next to your daughter caught fire. If you wanna know what happened next, look at the laboratory."

"I've seen it.", says my mother. "But seriously, why would Keira-"

"I don't know, and I'm sorry."

One question: Does this women know, that I'm still sitting in front of her?! She basically just said that she's sorry for my Mum having ME as her daughter!

I mean, seriously! Am I invisible or what?!

"Did you do it?"

"No.", I answer without any doubt. "It was not my fault!"

"Well, then what happened from you perspective?", asks the headmistress. "Why are you-"

"Don't you dare speak out that word!"

"What word?", asks Miss Greene (that's her name by the way. I just think, that "headmistress" fits her better.)

"Lying.", my Mum hisses.

Yes: She does sound like an angry snake.

And yes: The headmistress is not amused about her new inflection.
