Chapter 10
"What the HELL were you thinking, Keith!"
"Jan, please."
"No, Jan yelled, "I get a phone call at 12 from the police telling me you were in a goddamn fight."
"You don't und-"
"What is there not to understand Keith?" Jan seethed, "I was worried sick waiting for you to come home. I rang you so many damn times."
"My phone was dead, Ja-"
"Shut it!" Jan bellowed, "You need to understand this from my perspective. I pledged to protect you, years ago Keith. You suddenly don't respond for hours. I was seriously considering calling the police myself before they rang me first!"
"Jan-"
"Why were you even out that late?"
"I-I don't know."
"You..." Jan sighed deeply, "You DON'T KNOW!?"
Keith stuttered, "Y-you see..."
"You tell me your going out to a friends house," Jan fumed, "I find out you had a brawl in McDonalds-"
"I had a reason for starting the fi-"
Jan, once again, cuts off Keith, "I get that! But how did you get from a friends place to a mall? It is not safe, at this time of the night."
"I'm sorry."
"You better be."
Keith sighed. He looked over to Jan. Her face is more twisted than headphone wires. She looks like she is about to lash out at any second. The reason why was pretty obvious. This was, from her view, all Keith's fault. He was the one to stay out late. He was the one to get into the fight. He looked away in shame. He truly respected Jan. She was there for him, from a young age. To see her so angry at him was the worst feeling he could ever experience.
"W-who's that?"
Keith quickly looked up at Jan. She looked absolutely mortified- as if she'd seen a ghost. She warily pointed her finger to the wall behind Keith. He looked over to see Lance.
She could see him.
"Jan I-"
Jan jumped in surprise, "H-he's gone."
Keith was utterly confused. Lance had never done something like this. Who's to say Lance even knew he was doing it. The tanned boy was pretty dense, at times. If this was the case, Keith could play along. Pretend he didn't know what- who- she was talking about. If she knew Lance was there, everything would go wrong.
"Who's gone?"
"T-that boy," she replied, "Behind y-you."
"What ar-"
"There he is again!"
Keith sighed, "No one is there."
"Yeah," Jan sighed in absolute fear, "T-they are gone now. Just a part of my imagination. No one is there, Jan."
She sighed deeply.
"I'll go upstairs now," Keith informed her, "You should lie down."
"Okay," she replied, obviously still petrified, "We'll talk about your punishment tomorrow."
Keith exited the kitchen. He left Jan staring at the wall. He felt guilty for leaving her- she needed to believe no one was actually there. He headed up the stairs. He knew Lance was right behind him. Lance was always, at least, three feet behind him.
As soon as he gets into his room, he jumps onto his bed. He felt nothing but regret. How could he let Lance get him into this mess? Can't the other just leave him alone? Lo and behold, Lance was right there. He was sat at the end of Keith's be with a sorrow look on his face.
"I'm sorry Keith."
Keith felt another emotion flush through him- anger. Lance feels as if apologising will fix this bad ending. Keith sighs and lets the anger flow out of him. He's too tired for this shit. He just wants to sleep and let this all just pass by.
"It's fine."
Lances expression lightened.
"Really Keith?"
Keith sighes, "Yeah."
"Thank you," Lance beamed, "I will repay it to you!"
"Please," Keith replies, "No more McDonalds."
"Okay Keef!"
Lance got closer to Keith. He grinned down at the other, before launching himself next to Keith. He wrapped his arms around the other.
"I know I've been too pressuring," Lance sighed, "I promice I will not force you to do things you don't want to do. I don't want to loose you completely I care."
Keith mutters, "Okay."
Lance snuggles closer to Keith. The boy is cold and is basicly stealing all of Keith's body heat. This was obviously him trying to show Keith affection. It was confusing, yes, but this could be Lance being genuine. Could he be changing from this distantly weird boy into a closely weird boy?
"Lance."
"Hmm."
"Can I ask you something?"
"Yeah sure."
"How come Jan could see you?"
Lance paused, "I honestly don't know."
"Really?" Keith asked, "I would really like an answer behind it."
"I would too," Lance sighs, " Why would I just suddenly appear like that? I absolutely mortified the poor woman!"
"Yeah, you did."
Lance punched Keith in the arm, "Come on Keef, my angsty amigo, you're supposed to be on my side!"
"'Angsty Amigo'?"
Lance giggled, "I'm trying out nicknames, remember?"
"Want some constructive criticism?"
Lance smiles, "Sure."
"They're shit."
"That's not constructive at all..."
Keith gives him a blank look, "Honesty is a good thing ,lance. Try and get that around your think head."
Keith flicks Lance in the head.
Lance absolutely looses it. His laugh is full and hearty. It sends a fuzzy feeling through Keith's chest. He just brushes it off. Lance wasn't pressuring him to do anything, which was good.
"Please remember, Keith."
"What, Lance?"
"You're not as bad as you look."
Keith smiles, "Thanks."
"You know," Lance mumbles, "Open up to more people and you could actually have friends."
"You're actually letting me have them now?"
Lance giggles, "Shut up, Emo Burrito."
"Your nicknames are still not improving."
Lance groans, "I will smother you in your sleep."
"Like to see you try."
"But you'll be asleep."
Lance sighs and his eyes flutter slightly.
"You should go to sleep ,Keith."
Keith could only nod in reply. Lance let his eyes close. His smile slowly disappears and gets replaced by the blissful sleep. With that, snoring soon comes. Because of that bonding moment, Keith forgot all about what had happened that night. He looks over at Lances face. It was so peaceful- maybe even cute. Heat quickly takes over his face. Why is he feeling this way?
Holy shit.
