At first, Sophie's eyes widened in shock. Then, once the shock wore off, she could feel the tens of millions of tendrils of lightning arcing through her body, started with her lips. Keefe had made the kiss light, probably in case she didn't like it, but she loved it. Every single moment of it. So she kissed him back a little harder.
Now it was Keefe's turn to be shocked. But he kissed her right back. And it was pure bliss. The way their lips fit together like pieces of a puzzle snapping together. And that was the thing about puzzles. It never fit this perfectly with Fitz, back when they were dating. Or with Dex, for that matter, that one time at Havenfield. But with Keefe, it felt like a two-piece puzzle. Only one other piece could finish her, and that one piece was Keefe. Sophie felt a like a huge chunk of her life — the one she'd labeled "MISSING" — had been filled in.
They could've gone on for hours, but Sophie desperately needed air, so she broke away from the kiss and gasped down gallons of air. When she could breathe normally again, she looked over at Keefe, who was intently staring at her. So she pointed out the obvious: "You're staring."
Keefe blushed and looked away. "It's just, I never thought you'd know. I thought the Great Foster Oblivion was immortal. But I also never thought I'd do this. I'm really sorry. I know you said you like someone else, but—"
Sophie cut him off with another kiss, shorter than their first one, but still affectionate. She finished the kiss, but stayed close enough to whisper, "You are the one I like, Keefe Sencen. No one else. I only realized that yesterday, when I fell for you. Pun intended." She laughed at her own joke. "I like you, Keefe. I really do."
Keefe slowly smiled and leaned in even closer. Sophie could feel his breath heat up her cheek. "Well, what did I tell you? Team Foster-Keefe will always be cooler."
They shared another short kiss, but then they heard the vortinator whooshing to a stop and Ro marching off, apparently grumpy about whatever King Dimitar or Lord Cassius said. She stomped into Keefe's room, announcing, "I got the amoebas, Hunkyhair and Blondie! Are we doing this or not?" Then she realized the room was empty. "Where are you two? Off to do some snuggling?" Sophie and Keefe both blushed, but Sophie was already recording, from the moment Ro got off the vortinator. She'd just have to cut out what Ro said later.
Ro was now walking across the hall to check the other rooms, not noticing the giant puddle in front of her. Sophie was glad Keefe had made it invisible, otherwise Keefe would've been in more trouble with his bodyguard. But she herself had almost stepped in it when they were going to hide in the closet, if not for Keefe. Keefe.
But now was not the time for cheesy thoughts. She tried to get Ro back in the screen, but that required her to move onto Keefe's lap. Sophie was 75% sure she hadn't blushed at the thought. He looked surprised when she scooted over, but didn't say anything. Just flashed his trademark smirk. That smirk, always brightening her darkest days—
Shut up, brain, she told herself. She watched Ro step closer and closer to the puddle, and . . .
SPLASH! Ro stepped right into the trap. Sophie was very glad the closet was 5 million miles away from the puddle, because the splash was big. There were a few drops right outside the closet. She'd have to levitate out.
She watched as Ro's figure turned shinier, until her whole body was coated with rainbow glitter. She grew bloated and bloated, until she barely fit under the roof. Sophie watched her choke something back, then run down the hall, trying to get to the nearest bathroom. The sound that came from inside was gag-worthy.
Once Sophie and Keefe made sure the coast was clear, they'd levitated out and bolted Ro in the bathroom, just in case she decided to leave. Then, they carefully levitated back to his bedroom, occasionally stopping on furniture to steady Sophie's shaky levitation.
"That was epic, wasn't it?" Keefe asked, snickering when they'd reached the part of the clip where Ro had fallen into the puddle. He'd dubbed the video The Great Fail of Romhilda. He said he'd named it that just to annoy her.
Sophie scooted closer to Keefe, leaning her head on his shoulders. "Well, I'd better get home, or Grady'll ground me for the next century for spending time with That Boy," she sighed.
"Hey, you'll come by tomorrow, right?" Keefe asked.
"Yeah, of course. I just don't know how to tell Grady."
"Then don't tell him. Let him find out on his own. If he does, hail me, and I'll be there for you. You can't face the wrath of Grady alone, after all." He smirked.
Sophie gave Keefe a hug, and said, "Well, see you tomorrow, babe." She let the light reflect off her home crystal and stepped into it, but not before giving Keefe a quick peck on the cheek. The last thing she saw was his reaction to the pet name and the kiss. Then, the light carried her away.
Sorry I didn't update yesterday! My friends and I had our monthly potluck, so I was busy making some cinnamon buns. Hopefully this chapter has enough sokeefe fluff to make up for it. Also, plzzz follow me if you haven't already!
