Chapter 3

I stood at the edge of the forest and took a step forward, right in front of a house. The same house which brought back memories. The house I grew up in. The house I've never given a second thought to.
The doctor, who was acting as my mom was gone. She had packed up and I hoped to never see her again. I unlocked the door and stepped inside, with Reuben in my arms. A musty smell surrounded me as I looked around. Paper and loads of coffee cups. How well she acted. I diligently picked up the cups and stacked them aside, the old memories of me cleaning up making me smile a little.
I saw some wires and metal objects on the table but ignored them. Reuben was who I needed. I stepped into my room and smiled a little. It was exactly how I left it. I picked up my notebook and covered the now crusty jar of paint. I flipped the notebook in my hands and finally sat on the bed with Reuben.
And I sat there, the last night with him. And I was not ready for what was to come the next day.
