The Plan
"He was adopted. Took on the name of his adopted parents. Zolomon. His name's Hunter Zolomon."
"Well I gotta go tell Iris." Caitlin quickly says, gathering her purse and keys. "She'll be excited to find out he exists." She's seemingly talking to herself while she rushes to get up. "See you at the labs tomorrow morning?" She doesn't wait for an answer before she wanders off.
Jay notices Caitlin's change in demeanor but laughs it off...almost. He decides to follow her to CCPN to make sure everything is alright. Surely, she'd tell him if something came up, but maybe not. He isn't too worried, until she turns toward CCPD instead of CCPN.
Maybe Iris is visiting her dad, Jay thinks. He waits outside until he sees Caitlin run inside, her face panicked. He runs in behind her, barely missing her elevator. What happened? Why is she scared? She couldn't have heard anything from Barry or Cisco yet. What is wrong?
Jay walks out of the elevator and sees Caitlin frantically talking to Joe and Iris. He ducks behind the door frame into the back of the precinct.
"He's Zoom. Jay's Zoom." Caitlin heavily breathes out.
How could she know that?
"Breathe." Joe tries to calm her. "What do you mean Jay is Zoom?"
Maybe he'll talk her out of it.
"We figured out Zoom's Earth-2 identity. Hunter Zolomon."
How the hell could she have figured that out?
"Jay showed me his doppelganger." Caitlin says.
"You found his doppelganger?" Iris asks excitedly.
Get her off topic.
Caitlin turns to her and nods. "Yeah. His name isn't Jay Garrick. It's Hunter Zolomon."
I gave myself away? That's not possible. How could she have possibly heard of that name? Wells surely didn't tell her. If he ever suspected, he would've done something long before now.
"Are you sure?" Joe asks.
No
Caitlin stands up straight and nods, her face turning serious. "Yes. Joe, they walked into a trap."
No.
"Zoom knows they're coming. I'm going to find them."
No. No, you're not. I can't protect you if you get in the way. You can't save them.
Jay takes off out of the precinct. He gets back to S.T.A.R. Labs as quickly as he can. He has to get to Earth 2 and tell Zoom the plan has changed. Caitlin will not be waiting for them back here. If she gets to them before he does, this entire plan is ruined. Jay gets through the breach and makes his way to the forest. Before he can get there, Zoom finds him. He takes off his cowl and grabs Jay.
"Not having second thoughts, are we?" He growls.
Jay rips himself away from Zoom. "No. Caitlin-"
"What about Caitlin?" Zoom snaps.
"She caught on. She knows I'm Zoom. She-" Jay gasps as Zoom's hand impales his chest.
"Then I really have no further use for you." Zoom says darkly.
Jay's eyes are wide before they flicker closed and his body goes limp, falling to the ground.

"So, his dad murdered his mom in front of him when he was a kid and he spent the rest of his childhood in the foster care system?" Joe clarifies. Harry and Caitlin nod. "His dad was a known angry drunk even before he went to, what did you call it?"
"The War of the Americas." Harry answers.
Joe narrows his eyes. "Right."
"Any other known relationships? Foster parents? Orphanage employees he was close to? Girlfriends?" Caitlin asks.
Harry shakes his head.
"So, his parents? That's really all we have to go with." Joe sighs.
"That should be enough." Barry cuts in. "We don't want to provoke him for long."
"Any type of taunting could just make him angrier. Therefore, faster." Caitlin adds.
"But it could also make him sloppy. Careless." Joe points out.
"Guys, cut outs aren't quick to make. So, if we could get a move on with this, I'd love to get started." Cisco groans.
"Not yet." Barry says. "Look, none of this matters if we don't figure out how to open up a breach to Earth 2."
The four of them groan.
"We worked so hard to close the breaches." Cisco whines. "We could create another black hole."
"Let's not." Joe says quickly.
"Well we need to do something." Barry says, rubbing the back of his neck. "The longer we take, the more Zoom terrorizes Earth 2." He turns to Harry who nods.
"Well, one day won't kill us." Joe cuts in. "We have a dinner to get to, Bar. We can get back to this tomorrow."
Joe walks out and Harry disappears into the workshop.
"What dinner?" Cisco asks.
"Joe invited Wally over to have dinner with him and Iris. Guess I'm included in that."
"You're family." Caitlin says.
"I don't think he likes me." Barry whines.
Caitlin laughs. "He's resisting the entire idea. It's not just you. It's a miracle Iris has made some progress with him. He's stubborn. You of all people should understand that."
Barry glares at her then turns to glare at Cisco when he agrees.
"Do you two mind staying and working on this tonight?" He asks pleadingly.
They both nod. "We planned to. Hopefully, we'll have something by the time you get here in the morning."
Barry leans down and kisses Caitlin and stands up. He turns to see Cisco looking up at him and pointing to his cheek.
"My turn." He says. Caitlin laughs and lightly smacks Cisco on the cheek.
Barry laughs and walks out, headed to dinner with Iris, Joe, and Wally.

Barry walks into the lab first thing in the morning to find the cortex completely rearranged with equipment scattered all over the room. He reaches forward to grab something and is immediately stopped by a hand tightly wrapped around his wrist.
"Don't. Touch." Cisco says menacingly.
Barry turns to him. "Is this our breach solution."
"No. It's my new hair dryer." Cisco says, rolling his eyes.
"So...yes?"
"No, Barry!" Cisco shouts. "I don't have a breach solution. This is dead end number 27. Caitlin has gone to get fuel so I don't pass out before I can witness the failure of number 28."
Barry takes a step back with wide eyes. "Well then." He mumbles. "I will...leave you two to it." He backs out of the cortex completely and runs off to work.
At Jitters, Caitlin finishes her first cup of coffee before going back to the counter to order her second and one to take back to Cisco.
"Too much caffeine isn't good for ya, doc."
Caitlin turns to see Wally standing behind her with a grin on his face.
"I swear, I run into more people here than literally anywhere else." She groans.
"Do you go anywhere else?" He asks, raising an eyebrow.
She glares at him. "No." She grumbles.
He laughs.
"How did your dinner go last night?" She asks. He rolls his eyes. "Wanna talk about it?" He nods.
She orders another coffee and they take a seat.
"Spill." She says, smirking at him.
"He's just trying to act like I've always been around, and he's always been around, and we've always been a family and we haven't. I don't know him. I don't know Barry. I barely know Iris. How am I supposed to just...mold into that?"
"You don't have to, Wal. I'll admit, Joe can be a bit intense with the family concept, but he means well. Just know that it's sincere. He isn't trying to put on a front or overdo it. That's just how he is."
"But he's not my family. Not really. Not yet."
"But he could be. If you give him a chance."
"Would you? If your mom wanted back in your life?" He asks, raising an eyebrow thinking he knows the answer.
"Funny. Joe asked me the same thing when we were talking about Iris letting your mom back into hers."
"My mom didn't-" Wally stops himself.
"She ran." Caitlin says softly. "Wally, your mom was an incredible woman, but not always an incredible mom. She became one...for you. She wasn't ready when she had Iris. He thought he was protecting his only child by letting her go. He didn't realize he was abandoning another.
"Iris was ready to let the woman who abandoned her back into her life. Because Francine honestly wanted to form a relationship with her. And she just lost her. She didn't get to have a relationship. Joe didn't know he had a son. He would've found you. Now here he is, asking you to give him a chance to make up for time he didn't know he lost. You're lucky. You have time with him. Don't waste it."
Wally sighs. "What about Barry?"
"What about Barry?" Caitlin asks.
"Joe already has a son. CSI genius nerd who he works with every day." Wally says with a hint of annoyance. "Sorry, I know you two are together."
Caitlin laughs. "CSI genius nerd pretty much covers it though. There is no cap on how many kids you can have love for. Barry gets to be the son who followed in his footsteps and has a lot in common with him. You get to be the son who forges his own path. Does things Joe never dreamed of doing that he can get excited about with you.
"And Barry...he lost his mom when he was eleven. Lost his dad too until a few months ago. If you give him a chance, he might be a good friend to talk to...if not someday a good brother."
"Y'know, Snow. Just once, I'd like to leave a conversation with you feeling like I was right."
"Then you're having a conversation with the wrong person." She jokes. "Barry is pretty good with what he does. If you wanted to take a step with him, he might be a good person to ask for advice or even just talk to about your research."
Wally groans. "Fine." He moves to stand up. "I thought about visiting the station anyway. Figured I should apologize for being a downer last night."
Caitlin stands and hugs him before ordering coffee number three and, finally, Cisco's coffee to take back to the labs.
"Cisco?" Caitlin asks when she walks into a dark cortex. "Francisco Ramon?" She says in a sing-song voice.
"Not here. Call back later." He groans.
She sees a lump under a tarp in the middle of the room. She lifts the end covering his head. "What're you doing?"
"Hiding from my failures." He says.
She laughs. "What do you say we have coffee, clean, and start over?"
He sticks out his bottom lip and nods. He crawls out from under the tarp. Caitlin and Cisco sit in the middle of the cortex drinking their coffee. She updates him on Wally and the previous night's dinner. When they finish, they clean up the cortex and go back to the drawing board where they spend the rest of the afternoon.
When Barry walks in later that evening he is greeted by Caitlin softly banging her head against the edge of a dry erase board and Cisco sitting sprawled out on the ground staring at the board.
"Any luck with the breach problem?" He hesitantly asks.
Cisco groans. "The best plan we've come up with so far is to set off a nuclear warhead next to the city's electrical grid."
"Well we're not gonna do that." Barry says with wide, worried eyes. "I may have come up with an idea."
Cisco and Caitlin both turn to glare at him.
"You can thank Wally. He gave me the idea. Indirectly." Barry defends. "But uh...Cisco. I'm gonna need your powers."
Cisco narrows his eyes at him. "For what?"
"I'll tell you tomorrow. You two need sleep." Barry says, eyeing both of them. "But I gotta go talk to Harry first." He runs out.
"The warhead would've worked." Cisco grumbles, rolling over on the ground.
Caitlin leans back in her chair. "Definitely."
