Chapter Three

Daniel

A gust of cold air swept through the window, bringing with it the crisp smell of salt and seawater. The foreign scent and coolness of the breeze paired together jogged Daniel gently from his sleep. He blinked his eyes idly. Perhaps he was still dreaming. Directly in front of him was a group of girls; one of which contained the biggest breasts he'd ever seen on a chick, let alone a high-schooler. The troop of girls wore a mixture of yoga shorts, pants, and other materials tight enough to make their fathers cry. Daniel was confused, to say the least, and this was the least of what he felt. He never thought there'd be plenty of attractive candidates for partners out there. Even though his friends joked about beach blondes every day before he moved. Perhaps there was some truth to their jeers. He'd never had a girlfriend; well a long-lasting one anyways.

Living in the city naturally meant attending a large school. Many types of kids swam through the halls. Some were jocks, some were hipsters, others were nerds, as Daniel was often considered. Though he protested this, his thick black glasses said otherwise. The problem wasn't his glasses though. There were plenty of girls to date at his old school. His dilemma was that the hot ones were either taken or dumb, the smart ones were smart enough to not date him. The cute nerdy ones weren't exciting enough, for his reckless behavior, and so on. So sure he had dabbled, but none really lasted. Which was unfortunate since girlfriends were hard for him to come by.

Daniel thought he could turn his love of dance into something else. After all, how better to get the girl, than spinning on your head. Were people impressed? Sure. Did the girls flock to him? Not a chance. What he did gain from his endeavors though was a following of men. Yes, everything a beautiful young boy in a big city could ever dream of... A bunch of dudes. To his surprise, Daniel had found something in that decision that freed him. It was something that gave him confidence and salvation. It was break dancing.

Dancing had given him the chance to meet the people he'd call best friends, and one person, in particular, Sparky. That was her dance name. She was crude, rude, and acted like a dude. Thus she was B-boy Sparky and definitely was opposed to B-girl. Daniel and she began doing most everything together and would spend weekends practicing till the sun came up. At least that's how it appeared while walking on their hands, or standing on their heads, They'd laugh as they inverted finally realizing how much time had passed.

He sighed, as he watched the packs of friends, and cliques move about. It was unlikely he'd get to see her again. With her, the crew, and dance; Daniel had just about everything he ever needed. Happiness, acceptance, and self-fulfillment, were all met. It even filled that empty space that a romantic partner would normally settle into. Between his mom and his crew, he couldn't ask for any more love. Now he abandoned his crew to make sure his mom could hold on to her new love, and doing so, sacrificed a lot of the affection he used to have. It was worth it though.

"Looks like schools letting out." his mother's sweet voice chided from behind him. "I guess you get a little sneak peek at your classmates." She peered through the traffic ahead; watching out for the students crossing the streets, and cars squeezing into parking spaces, ready to pick up their children. She was a little curious herself since she was to become part of the school's health faculty. However when she pointed out the students to her son, she was oblivious to the thoughts in his head, and that the way he viewed the sophomores, and juniors walking about was in a whole other way.

You have no idea, Daniel thought. While she was focused ahead on the after-school congestion, his eyes were still resting on the girl with the chest. She seemed loud, he assumed she held the position of leader over the other girls. Apparently, the rules of deer, and the animal kingdom applied to teens in this small town. The one with the biggest rack was in charge. He gave himself a few seconds to appreciate the small marvel before him, then shifted his eyes to another girl in the group. She looked similar to boobs M'gee; as he took to calling her in his head, except she appeared shorter and less strong. Not that she was sickly, she was simply just... smaller. The girl was healthy thin, and her head looked just a little large on her body, but Daniel couldn't say it was a turn-off, as it worked for her. He came to Freeman with the mindset that there would be no attractive girls, and school would be his only pursuit. He had to admit though, that the girl in front of him now was really cute.

The group of girls traveled down the sidewalk, their path bringing them closer to the car. She had green eyes that she shared with the alpha, as well as brown hair. Though the leader wore hers short, the other girl let it cascade over her shoulders in long waves. They had to be sisters. Bongos was the older, more tomboyish, charismatic one; who inherited the boobs. The other was the younger sister, who apparently inherited a near-perfect backside instead. Whether it was the yoga pants, his still half-asleep mind, or the girl's natural physique, it made little difference. Daniel switched his gaze to the cars ahead. She was cute, sure, but he still wasn't interested in dating. The thought crossed his mind once or twice on the car ride up, but most of them came back to the conversation he had with Sparky.

She insisted that he'd meet an attractive beach girl and forget all about her and the crew. He rebutted that in order to forget them or her he'd have to forget dance, and that was something they both knew would never happen. His second argument was that it was a small town. Cute girls were going to be slim picking, but he was wrong. The argument they had was mute regardless because what was important to Daniel remained the same. His mother, school, and dance, anything else hardly mattered. His mom's happiness came first, and if he got good grades, it would lead to a good job. A good job would lead to financial security, and with that his mother would have less to worry about. Sure she had Benjamin now, but two teacher's salaries could only do so much. It was his duty to do the best he could to take care of them since his father wasn't around to do it. He worked at part-time jobs where he could but when he graduated, he would make sure there was more he could contribute. And dancing would be what helped him push through when times were tough.

The smell of salt rushed to the back of Daniel's nose, another breath of sea greeting him on the swift wings of the wind. The cool air pricked at his skin. Nature's acupuncture, removing stress from his very being. Maybe this town had something to love after all. Perhaps he could live here, they did say that grass was always greener on the other side. Daniel looked around, this place actually had grass; unlike the concrete jungle, he used to live in.

A new image caught Daniel's eye. Like a small falling star, it toppled down and shattered on the sidewalk, the fragments flickering in the light. The blunder seemed to cause a disturbance in the group of girls, sending the younger sister into hysterics. He peered harder to see what had spilled out of her bag. What could have possibly caused so much grief? His view was obstructed however as the girl scampered over, her back to him, the pieces of the celestial trinket hidden. Quickly the girl snapped at the waist, bending over to collect her fallen shards.

Daniel had learned two things at that moment, as the girl bent over before him. One there was a point in which tight pants could become even tighter; shattering the imagination while removing the mystery of what was beneath them at the same time. Thus, recreating a new imagination altogether. The second was the most perfect of bubble butts in the world resided in Freeman town. The sudden presentation momentarily made Daniel forget about his concern for her lost object, his mind was no longer on earth, that was until the voices brought him back to reality.

"Oh my god. Erin, look!"

The girl straightened up, shards of glass cradled in her arms. "What?"

"That boy in the car was totally checking you out!"

The girl known as Erin turned and locked eyes with Daniel, unsure of what her sister May was talking about. Her shattered belongings must have still been on her mind.

To Daniel though there was no avoiding it. He knew he had been caught staring. Soon the adorable Erin would make the connection. It wasn't his fault, all he wanted to know was what she was grieving over, instead, she had shown him what kind of underwear she wore. So Daniel did the first thing he could think of. He raised both hands, clearly displaying the five digits of each one. He nodded his approval as he gave her a perfect ten out of ten.

Erin cocked her head to one side; and then without warning let out a gasp, before bolting away from the group, and from Daniel. Her face resembled a cherry. The appearance was sweet, and the expression tart, all of it was the color red.

"What a perv!"

Daniel could hear the girls branding him as he rolled up the window, his eyes looking anywhere but them. Embarrassed? Definitely, but he knew any one of those girls would do the same thing if they saw a perfect set of abbs. Still, as the rest of the group jeered and stared, trying to decipher the unfamiliar face inside the dirty old Volkswagen; Daniel wished the school busses would move faster.

When they finally did venture away, he swore he had just sat and experienced the most uncomfortable minutes of his life.
