The Third Letter
Jan. 6, 1941
Dear Steven,
I worried you might not reply at all, the waiting was nearly the end of me. I am delighted to hear that you eagerly awaited my next letter.
Making new friends here has been troublesome for me, as no one here is you. I do not know that I shall ever find a friend quite like you, Steven.
Reading about how my letter has made your day brings a smile to my face, so much so that, while it is not easy to admit, I re-read your letter many times.
Please tell me more about what you do with yourself in my absence, as I'm certain I do not know how to fill the time by my lonesome.
Sincerely,
James
