Chapter 38 : Telling Hermione
"You're my friend too." I assured, and thought for a while before saying. "And I'll tell you everything."
"Really?" She asked in disbelief.
"Yeah. We just need to make sure we're alone."
"I'll take care of that." She smiled, and grabbed her wand, pointed it towards the door, and said "Hominium Revelio."
Nothing happened.
"It's okay. We're alone." She said confidently.
"Okay." I tried to think about what to say. "So.. first.. Harry and I.. when we were at the river, during the holiday.. We found out that we can talk to each other through our minds."
She didn't seem surprised by that revelation, and that proved that she already knew everything.
"And then when we ran.. We were fighting, and a glowing shield appeared and protected us from every spell. " I went on.
"That's what you were about to say, when you came back. With Harry." She said, understanding shining through her eyes. This was a beautiful thing to see. Hermione understanding something. Every time she seemed to be flying or discovering a treasure.
"Exactly." I nodded. "And then when we were alone, Harry and I, you know, when you and Ron were on your date. Well, Harry tried to apply the potion on his bruise. He wasn't quite applying it well, so I helped him. I was so focused and.. I felt the need to touch it. It was like something was telling me to. So that's what I did.. And.. as soon as I touched it, it disappeared in some sort of glowing light."
Hermione smiled in awe.
"You don't seem surprised."
"Yeah.. that's because-"
"I know. I know you found out long ago." I smiled.
"I wasn't sure."
"Anyway, after it healed.. We kinda..kissed and we ended up in my bed." I said blushing. I felt like I owed her that. And it actually felt great to tell her.
"No way!" She said, her hands covering her mouth. She was smiling big.
"Yeah.." I couldn't hide my smile.
"How was it?"
"Wonderful." I said truthfully.
She couldn't help but clap her hands in a very unhermionish way.
"Please Hermione.." I laughed.
"Okay, okay. Tell me more." She said trying to calm down.
"Then, the night right after it, we were sleeping together, and..We had that dream.."
"The exact same?""
"The exact same." I nodded. "We were in a meadow, and then a voice said that we were to be together forever. Something like that." I acted as though I didn't remember it quite well - the truth was I remembered it perfectly.
She just nodded, so I went on.
"When we woke up, we found out that we had the same dream, and then we figured out that we were.."
"Bonded." She finished.
That word, actually spoken out loud, made me realise how serious it was. We weren't just linked. We were bonded. Like incapable of being apart. Like being everything for the other, and the other way around. Like so much more than love. Like ..bonded.
"That's huge." She sighed.
"I can't actually realise it.. I mean.. I get it.. but I can't see us as ..that." I said. "I always -well, since I can remember- thought that I just loved him very much. You know, I'm completely smitten with him, in love with him. He's everything. I love him. But I would have never thought we were.. bonded."
"I couldn't believe it either. I had to read it a thousand times before it actually sank in."
"Read it?" I asked, puzzled.
"Yeah, you know me, I went to the library and read about it."
I couldn't help but smile. That was Hermionish.
"Do you.. do you think the dream had something to do with what we did before sleeping? Or us sleeping in each others arms?" I asked, trying not to sound stupid.
"Yeah.. I guess so." She was staring at the wall behind us, deep in thought. "Maybe because you created a bond. A bond that was there before, but only never showed up."
"Do you think it was always there?"
"Yeah. I just think that your memory loss actually made it stronger." She seemed to think for a while. "And Ginny." She finally added. "I also think that your memory loss was not an accident."
"What do you mean? That those who attacked us had planned it before?"
"Exactly. And the reason they must have done it.."
"Because of the bond." I cut her off.
"Exactly!" She said with sparks in her eyes, shining as they always do when she understands something.
"But how could they know?" I asked curiously.
"They are records. In the most confidential place of the ministry. They must have found it last year, when they owned the place. And they must have thought that making you lose your memory would end the bond."
"Quite stupid. " I commented.
"I know.." She shook her head. "Maybe they thought that as the bond was mere -compare to what you have now- that would end it."
"But it didn't."
"Death eaters aren't the smartest."
"Not everyone can be as smart as you Hermione." I laughed.
"Shut up!" She said though she was smiling at the compliment. "The point is, as soon as they realise it didn't work, you're in a great danger."
"And.. that's why they were here the other day. That's why you told us to run. That's why you were so worried."
"Yeah." She sighed.
"Also, I said, earlier, Harry and I were trying to talk to each other through our minds, like a training you know, so we can talk to each other even when we're not together."
"That's clever." She approved.
We looked at each other for a while, before she spoke.
"I wanted to tell you, I really did, but I didn't even know if you had figured it out about the bond."
"You did right Hermione. I'm happy that I figured it out with Harry."
"And now we have to tell him."
"Yeah... Hermione?" I asked.
"Yes? "
"Do you think.. they'll try to kill me.. or him?"
"That's what they want. Killing you though would be better I guess, because Harry would die of pain, instead of dying easily."
"I won't let that happen." I said confidently.
"And neither will he." She said with a slight smile.
