Chapter 37 : First Time We Met

"What can we work on? I mean... on our.. connection
.. I know.. but.. how?"

"I know a bit of occlumency. I was awful at it with Snape but with you it must be alright."

"Are you sure we can do this?"

"That could help us."

"Like.. like when we're away.. I mean we could feel each other's presence.. maybe we could actually be apart."

"Like when you'll go to the Auror training in two weeks." I sighed.

"Exactly."

"Fine. Let's try."

"Are you ready Weasley?"

"I'm always ready Potter."

"Fine." He sighed. "We need to try to talk to each other whenever we want, even when we're away."

"Okay. So what if .. listen. One of us thinks about something, and tries to communicate it with the other."

"Sounds fine." He agreed. "You go first?"

" 'Kay." I said, and I began to search for something I could think about.

"I got something." I said and closed my eyes as I began to think hard about it.

I thought about her face. Her brown eyes that look just like mine. Her loving smile, her bone crushing hugs. I heard her voice in my mind.

I tried harder as Harry didn't seem to get it.

Her voice. Smile. Hugs. Eyes. Face. Love.

"Is it... is it your mother?" I heard an unsure voice.

I opened my eyes.

"Yeah. You found it quick."

"You must have strong emotions. That's when we usually talk through our minds."

"Yeah I guess. I feel safe around her."

"I guess that's normal. She's your mother."

"Yeah... I just wish I could remember what I lived with her... with them all in my childhood."

"I know you will." He said, confidence shining through his emerald green eyes.

"Okay.. your turn." I smiled.

He nodded and closed his eyes, and I did the same.

First, I heard something that sounded like a train. There were a lot a voices.. everything was blur. It looked like king cross station. Then I saw a bunch of red heads. I couldn't hear precisely what they were saying. I recognized my mum, she looked a bit younger then the last time I had seen her. Then, I saw two boys that were very much alike. I wondered who they were. Then looked like ... young George. And they were two. It clicked. That was Fred and George. Fred. But I didn't get to concentrate much on them because then I recognized a young Ron, and a young Percy, and then.. a young me. We were walking towards the barrier, when a young boy with bright green eyes talked to mum. I didn't get what he said, but then he nodded, and looked at me. I could only hear what I said back then. "Good luck." And then, with a smile, Harry was gone through the barrier.

I opened my eyes as the memory faded.

"Is that... how we met the first time?" I asked, still shaken a bit by the memory.

"Yeah. I figured that would be great because you could also know how your family looked like before." He explained.

"Thank you.." I sighed.

"What for? "

"For showing me a memory. That actually means a lot to me."

"I'm glad. I had to concentrate to do that." He laughed.

"Show me more!" I pleaded with a smile.

"Er... maybe another time. That's taking a lot of energy."

"You faint hearted." I joked.

"Hey! I actually had a very good idea. Thank me."

"I already thanked you." I laughed.

"Thank me again." He said cheekily.

"Thank you Harry! "

"Oh but you don't have to thank me Gin Gin." He smiled, and then laughed when I hit him playfully on the arm.

And then, with no warning, he kissed me. I instantly moved my hands to the back of his head.

I lost myself in this passionate kiss, and soon, as though the room was understanding our needs, a king size bed appeared out of nowhere.

"Finally!!" Hermione shrieked. "Where were you!"

"We were just working. Nothing really." I said, trying to sound convincing.

"Okay.." Hermione said in a tone that made me understand I had failed miserably in my effort to sound normal.

"Let's head to the Great hall. Dinner is going to be served." Harry proposed, trying to change the subject.

I laughed internally, and we all went down to eat.

Just as we were beginning to eat, we were interrupted by Sarah, from our Quidditch team.

"Hey you all." She said. "I just wanted to tell you, I broke my Nimbus during the Holidays.. so it might take a while before I get another one..". She was waiting for our reaction, she was clearly embarrassed.

"Oh. Er.. when's the next match? " I asked.

"Mid February. Against Slytherin." Harry replied.

"I'm sure we can arrange this before the next match, but you'll have to use a slower broom during the practice until you get another one." I said.

"You could...borrow one from me." Harry proposed.

"What?"

"I could buy one for me, and you could use it until you get a new one."

"But you already have a firebolt." I said.

"Not for long." He smiled.

I looked at him, trying to figure out what he meant, but then he turned his face to his plate, to his fork, and began to eat.

"What did you really do when you were alone with Harry?" Hermione asked me, as we were alone in our dorm.

I let out a heavy sigh. "Hermione... why do you always feel the need to know everything?"

"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked, trying to hide her frown.

"What Harry and I did earlier is none of your concern."

"Where were you then?" She asked stubbornly.

"This is none of your business either." I said with a bored look.

"I was your best friend Ginny!!" She then screamed. "You used to tell me everything!" Tears were threatening to fall from her eyes, and I saw that she had been wanting to scream for long, and that she couldn't hold it anymore.

I suddenly felt guilty. "Hermione..I'm sorry.."

"Just tell me if you don't see me as a friend that you can trust, so I don't have to hope for you to talk to me anymore." She said more calmly, trying to calm down.

"Hermione, of course you're my friend.. it's just.. maybe I don't know you like I did before." I sighed.

"Just tell me.."

"I know I can trust you, that you won't tell anyone, it's just that I don't know how to open my mind to you.. the only person who I talk to about those kinds of serious things is actually.."

"Harry, I know, because he was always the closest to you, ever since you lost your memory. And I know you need time.. but.. I miss it. We used to sit there or in the couches for hours and talk about our mere problems, about guys, school, even Quidditch some time. And now... all we ever do is greeting each other, and just talking like the only things we have in common are Ron and Harry. But it's not true. We are friends Ginny. And I don't care about your memory loss, you will always be my friend. And I know you're hiding something, and it bothers me."

Her monologue ended as she took a deep breath, leaving me speechless.

"You're my friend too." I assured, and thought for a while before saying "And I'll tell you everything."
