Chapter Twenty Nine: Sacrifices
A/n: Thank you for reading my fanfiction! I know that it had been so long since this book had been on hiatus! Well, I will be ending this book soon by Chapter 30 with additional five short stories!
Alwyna and Leona didn't know what to say at first while they were in Severus's office that night since as far as they were concerned, they had woken up their Potions Professor, even so, they knew that they cannot stay silent. Severus Snape wasn't just a professor in school but Harry's guardian, too. Soon, Alwyna mustered all of her strength and said to him, "Sir, I saw Harry Potter leaving our dormitory. I don't know where they had gone but I am sure that I saw Harry, Hermione, and Ron walk together."
"Draco had also informed us that Harry seemed to be planning some kind of dangerous adventure to get to Quirrell and stop him from stealing something!" Leona added. "We don't know what is going on but we believed that as their seniors, we ought to inform you. Harry was carrying a flute, sir."
Severus was surprised by what he had heard from them, most especially, the news that Harry had brought a flute. Even if the news had made him anxious for the safety of Harry, he didn't allow himself to get out of balance, be thrown off, and lose patience. He knew that he had to stay calm. Closing his eyes, he gulped a lot of salivae and breathed enough air twice deeply before reopening his eyes. "Go back to the dormitory and go to your beds. We will be the ones handling this situation. Do you understand?"
Alwyna and Leona looked at each other since they were worried but they chose to understand their professor's decisions. They exited the room at the same time but they both knew that the news they told him had made him so anxious and afraid. They both hoped that whatever danger that Harry and his friends had placed themselves in, they will come back alive. Both of them would also scold Harry many times and cry since he had made them worry for him.
Alwyna may be a half-elf but the human side of her always made her more emotional than the pureblood High Elves. The High Elves may be able to help protect the students in the whole school from curses and trolls but the school will still be vulnerable if there's a traitor inside it. She didn't even know why Harry had to leave that day and from what she had heard from Draco Malfoy, Professor Quirrell is a traitor.
...
Severus Snape needed to drink lots of water while walking the dark corridors of the castle to go to Dumbledore's Office that night to tell him about the danger that Harry had placed himself in to ask for help and advice. He's pretty much confident that Quirrell won't be able to steal Nicholas Flamel's stone but the traps that they had placed were too advanced for a first-year like Harry and Ron but at least, he was confident that they do have a chance to pass the challenges to get to the room where they hid it since Hermione's with them. She may be a Muggle-born but he saw that she's a talented, brave, and intelligent witch. The challenges consisted of flying on a broom, winning the fight on the huge wizard's chess board, and solving the potions riddle.
After Severus said the spell and the stairs began moving up ahead to the entrance of Dumbledore's Office, he began to knock on the door and it was soon opened to let him through. What he didn't know was that the professor was already waiting for him that night. "Professor Dumbledore, I believe that you may have heard the news about what Harry and his friends were up to this night. I take all the responsibility."
"It wasn't your fault at all, Severus," Dumbledore said as he sniffed on his cigarette pipe. "Alwyna told me as well that he was planning to take the stone for himself and take it before Quirrell steals it. It was a brave choice but a foolish move from him."
"Shouldn't we stop him before all else, sir?" he asked him. "They're in danger!"
Dumbledore sat on his chair before his table. "Sirius Black is already on the move to find them. I have told him about how to get through Fluffy and all the challenges we placed to protect the stone."
Snape was enraged that he shouted in such disappointment to him since he cannot even trust that man, yet. His fists were clenched too tightly and his eyes were filled with hatred. "How can I trust that man, Professor Dumbledore? I don't even know if it was true that he did not betray Lily!"
"We all need to do a lot of sacrifices if we want something to happen to our lives and to the problems we have today!" Dumbledore reminded him. "Do you think that you could follow the children and Sirius Black to find them?"
"You know my answer to that, Professor." Snape clenched his fists. Rescuing Harry and his friends meant risking his cover as a double agent. Many Death Eaters believed that allowing himself to take care of Harry made him vulnerable and become a sacrifice to raise the Dark Lord, again. "Losing Lily pained me. It will be more of a huge scar if I lose her child, too!"
Professor Dumbledore was happy when he heard that the potion master was ready to sacrifice himself to save someone. "You know where to find them, Severus! I am sure that you will be able to find them in no time at all. Even so, you need to be confident with what the children could do. They may surprise us with their talents. Children could surprise us by their skills and abilities."
Snape smiled as he remembered how Harry was able to memorize all the ingredients of the calming potion when he was only nine years old back in their home near the Privet Drive wherein Petunia Evans lived. "That is true, sir."
Dumbledore repeated. "Find them, Severus. I am sure that they will need your help."
...
"LUMOS MAXIMA!" shouted Snape as he walked down the dark corridors of Hogwarts that night since most of the corridors at that time were only lit by fire torches. The light coming from the torches wasn't enough for him if he wanted to find a young boy. No matter how much he looked for him around the dungeons, he couldn't find him. He also tried the west side of the castle but to no avail. "Lumos Maxima!"
"We won't be able to find them in any place around the school corridors. I have already looked everywhere and even outside," Sirius said to him. "They may be on the third floor where you locked Fluffy. Isn't he protecting the trap door that goes through the underground chambers?"
Severus Snape was heaving already that time since he was running all around the castle just to find Harry. "Hagrid placed him there. He brought a flute with him. I believe he would be going there to get the Stone before Quirrell does."
"Professor Dumbledore only told me a little information about what's going on. I admit that I don't know the whole situation, Severus. Can you tell me more about what's going on so we can find them as soon as possible?"
"Nicholas Flamel's stone is here in Hogwarts and we believed that the Quirrell did have plans of stealing the stone. It was also probable that a part of the weakened You-Know-Who had attached to him," Severus began. "I don't know why Harry suddenly thought of getting the stone before he does, though. We need to find them, Sirius!"
Sirius Black's right hand went into a huge fist while holding his want after he heard the situation but instead of allowing his anger to grow, he chose to calm himself as the safety of the kids was more important. "You're right, Severus. After this, I'll ask Dumbledore again to get my godson into my custody."
"Harry wants me," Severus reiterated. "Why don't you ask him rather than begging the old man? He's been with me for eleven years now."
A/n: New chapter up!!! Thank you to all those people who will continue to support this fanfiction even if I have left this book hanging again for months! :)
