11. THE NURSERY
CHAPTER ELVEN: THE NURSERY
---
22 WEEKS & SIX DAYS PREGNANT (SIX MONTHS INTO THE PREGNANCY)
"Come on, let me carry that bag for you!" without waiting for an answer, Five grabbed the bag Maddie had been carrying from the car to the house. She sighed, but let him take it.
"Honey, I'm pregnant, not sick" she murmured as she opened the door "I know, I know" Five assured her but she didn't reply.
The last six days Maddie had been in the hospital had been long. Very long. She had to keep lying in bed and Five and her had looked through the book full of baby names almost all day long.
The doctors had checked her and the baby every day at least once at day until they finally decided to get her to go home again. Klaus, Lila, Diego, Luter and Viktor came to visit everyday.
Maddie was still suffering some headaches, but they weren't that bad anymore. The bruises on her arms were healing pretty fast and she felt better. But Five still seemed to be worried. He wouldn't let her carry anything that was heavier than a bag of milk. It was a little annoying.
"Are you sure that I shouldn't take some days off?" Five asked as he followed Maddie into their house. She got rid of er shoes and then started to undress herself on the way to the bedroom.
She needed to put some comfy PJ pants and an oversized shirt. And then she wanted to curl up on the couch and watch some movies while she would eat her favorite ice cream. Yes, that was what she wanted. And she wanted Fiv to join her, but she also wanted him to go back to work in the CIA.
"Honey, I'm fine, really. And the baby is fine as well. Please stop worrying that much" she snuggled under a cuddly blanket on the couch "You should go back to work. You've been with me all the time when I was in the hospital. So go do your job, okay?" she looked up and smiled at him. Five was standing next to the couch and he looked like he wasn't sure about what to do now.
He sighed "Are you sure? I mean I could...I could just join you here and watch a movie with you" he put his hands into his pockets and the look he gave her, made her smirk. He looked like a puppy.
"Hon, don't" she chuckled "You need to go back to work. I'll be fine, I promise. And if there's something I'll call you immediately. I love you, Sweety, but...sometimes I get so annoyed by you"
The last word had dropped out of her mouth before she could have done anything against it. And Five's eyes widened before he frowned "Uhm..." was all he could say, obviously being overextended.
"Oh my god, no, I didn't mean it that way, Hon!" she exclaimed and jumped from the couch. She felt that bad pain in her head again but tried to ignore it "I jus...you know, my hormones are playing up and I get annoyed so easily by a lot of things, I didn't want to offend you, oh man..." she rubbed her forehead while she stared at her husband.
Five did what he could and she knew that he was worried about her and the baby and she could understand him.
He thought he lost them both a few days ago.
But she sometimes needed a little break from his care, because she didn't want to feel like she was ill. She was pregnant and she wanted to enjoy those months. They were hard enough anyway, she wanted to enjoy the positive moments.
A smile appear on Five's lips as he stepped closer to her "You can't scare me away, no matter what you say or what you do" he said.
Their foreheads met and she closed her eyes. "That's good" she whispered and he chuckled while Five put his hand on her belly.
They pulled away to look at each other "I know you're right. And I'm sorry I'm being so annoying. I'm just...worried and you and our little baby. I just...can't help myself. I couldn't get over it if something would happen to you" he said and she smiled before he wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Okay, I'll...go to work now" he finally said after we had stood there hugging.
Maddie nodded, a smile on her face "Go and catch the bad guys. I'll be fine here. Beside I have Alfred" she said.
"I will be back as soon as I can" he said as they pulled away.
He kissed her before he grabbed his jacket and left the house.
---
Later that afternoon, Maddie joined Five in the kitchen. He was staring into the fridge before closing the door after some minutes and sighed.
"Alright you're pregnant but we don't even have anything to eat here. Nothing expect ice cream and cookies and the chef is having the day off" he said "We could order some food? I'm hungry too" she suggested and was already searching for her phone. Five nodded and followed her.
Forty-five minutes later the two of them were stuffing their faces with some take out and some donuts "Haven't you eaten all day long?" she asked and Five shook his head "I've been too busy with work. I wanted to get it done as fast as possible" he explained and then put another piece of his food into his mouth.
"You don't have to stress yourself, Five" she looked at him "I never feel lonely anymore" she put a hand on her baby bump as she could feel the baby start kicking. Five smiled at her.
"I know you're right. And I'm sorry I'm being so annoying. I'm just...worried and you and our little baby. I just...can't help myself. I couldn't get over it if something would happen to you" he said and she smiled.
"We are both okay" they rested their forehead against each before smiling.
"I think it's time we started working on the nursery" she said "You are right. I can get ready to take the rest of the things out of the nursery" he said "Not the rocking chair" he chuckled.

25 WEEK PREGNANT
Maddie leaned against the doorframe while she looked around the empty room. Weeks ago Five and Alfred with the little help from Luther and Diego had cleared out the whole room so they could turn it into a nursery before the baby would be born.
Now Maddie was two weeks away from enter her seven month into the pregnancy and her and Five's little baby would be born in about three months. But the room was still empty.
"What are you doing here?" Five stepped closer to her and wrapped his arms around her. She leaned against him and a sigh escaped her mouth "I was just wondering when we'll find time to finally make a nursery here. I mean...we can't have the baby before the nursery is ready" she turned her head and looked up to Five.
"That's right" he replied "Did you already think about which color we should paint the walls?" he asked and she grinned "What kind of color?" I asked "Well since we don't if it a boy or a girl. It will be very stupid to pain it pink" he said and she chuckled.
"I thought...we could pain one of walls green or blue" she stepped into the room and pointed to the wall on her left side "And the others will stay white" Five suggested and she nodded.
"And then....the crib would be here and the dresser there" she showed Five quickly, how she imagined the nursery to look and he listened to her, gave a comment every now and then but overall he really like her idea.
"You know what? Next week I have the week off work , I'll start with painting the walls, alright?" Five said while he grabbed her hands and pulled her closer to him "That sound good" she quietly said, a smile on her lips "The sooner the room is ready, the better" Five agreed and kissed her gently before he lead her out of the room again.
It was looking bleakly at the moment and now, all of a sudden, Five couldn't wait to paint the walls and furnish it so it would finally look like a cute and comfortable nursery for their little baby.
---
LATER THAT DAY
Five curled up in the bed next to Maddie. She had been reading when he came back home and had stayed awake until he had been finished with showering and eating something. Now she put the book away and scooted closer to her husband.
"How are you?" he quietly asked as he put his hand on her baby bump "I'm doing good" she said and buried her face in his neck.
She placed little kisses on his arm skin "I have asked Alfred, Diego and Luther to help me getting the nursery ready, so you wouldn't have to lift a finger" he said "But...I want to help. It's my child as well" she protested and pulled away a bit.
"Come on, you can't lift heavy stuff anymore and I wouldn't let you do that anyway. Maddie...Love...I know I'm annoying to you and I'm sorry for this but....would it be that bad to let me do this for you? You're carrying my child and I can't even imagine how exhausting this must be. I just...I want you to relax" he said.
"I know you don't want me to get hurt again or something. I know you were scared for my life and our baby's life" she replied and now stroke Five's cheek.
She looked up to him and tried to find the right words. How could she make clear to him that she didn't want to sit around doing nothing?
"Five, Hon, I need to do anything. I need to. If I'd just sit around doing nothing, I...I would think about all the bad things that can happen. And I couldn't handle that, do you understand?" she asked.
For a moment Five just looked at her without saying a word. And she was waiting for him to say anything. Eventually, Five let out a deep sigh and he pulled her closer again.
"I know that you try to distract yourself. And I think that's a good thing at the moment. Would you...would you agree with me if we say that you can help where you can but as soon as you feel exhausted or tired, you'll stop? Beside, the smell of freshly painted walls might not be good for a pregnant woman...." Five frowned now but she just nod her head.
"I promise you, I won't stay any long in the room when you pain it. But let me cook something for you and bring something to drink or so at least, okay?" she asked and he nodded now, a grin on his face "Okay that's a deal" he said.
---
In the evening, Maddie turned around in bed to face Five. He was laying on his back, a book in his hands and with his glasses on "Five?" she asked and he slowly turned his head "Yeah?" he asked.
"What if we are being watch" she said "By who?" he asked "By Reginald" she said.
"Love...we have our bodyguards, and security, no one is watching us without our security knowing. I bought the most security house I could so you could relax. And nothing is gonna happen without us knowing. If someone try to break, we would know. We have a giant fence around our property. A camera around, even in the small forest. Two gates with guards. They need either to be on the list of people that are allow through or asking us to be let through. And the people on the list shall have proof that they are those people. The alarm will go off if someone cross path, if someone is even standing too close to the fence for too long, guards will be all around them. This is the most top security house there is. So nothing to worry about" he said as he looked at her "Now, go to sleep. You need it" he said and she nodded.
No matter how tired Five was, he was always the last one of them to go to sleep, cause he refuse to sleep until he was sure that Maddie was asleep.
Maddie needed sleep. Her baby didn't let her sleep enough anyway with all her moving and kicking inside her stomach. She was in that phase of pregnancy where sleep was rare.
She snuggled into Five's arms who had put the book away "I love you, Five, always and forever" she mumbled "I love you too, Darling, always and forever" she could feel his lips on her head before her eyes full shut and she drifted away. She could finally escapes her thought again.

26 WEEKS & FIVE DAYS PREGNANT
Five, Luther, Diego and Alfred had already fnished painting the walls with those colors that Five and Maddie wanted.
"Love, you really shouldn't be here" Five scolded, looking back at her before moving to the floor to trim the excess wallpaper from the bottom.
"The pain dried over four days ago, I think I'm good" she chuckled "Not to mention, the view is pretty good from where I'm standing" she said.
Five looked back sending her a playful wink before turning back to the job he had in front of him.
