CHAPTER TEN. CAR ACCIDENT

"Maddie? Maddie, Love, talk to me"

A voice that seemed to come from afar away placed reached Maddie's awareness. Her eyelids fluttered as she opened her eyes slowly.

Where was she? What had happened? She weakly turned her head and winced when she felt pain in her neck.

"What...what happened?" she murmured now as she tried to remember "We...We just had an accident" Five explained. He was standing outside the car and looked at Maddie. Was she still in it?

She looked around once again, carefully turning her head so it wouldn't hurt that much again. But the pain was constant and it felt like her whole body was hurting.

"I...I guess I can't get out of the car" she eventually whispered and Five shook his head as tears was in his eyes. There was concern in his eyes and his whole facial expression told everyone how desperate he was at this moment.

Five have tried to get Maddie out while she was passed out but she was really stuck and he was scared that he would hurt her or the baby more if he tried.

"Are you alright?" she examined Fives head, where she could see some blood. It looked like he had a laceration on his forehead, but he didn't seems to care.

He nodded his head "I'm okay. I'm just worried about you and...and the...baby"

Maddie looked down and saw her baby bump. She couldn't see her legs, she was jammed between the crushed car door and the seat. She tired to take a deep breath when she felt panic in her chest.

But even breathing hurt. Her arms were laced with bloody cuts from the destroyed window glass, but Maddie couldn't actually realize it. All she could think of was the baby in her stomach.

"Oh my god" she now sobbed and pressed a shaking hand on her mouth "The baby isn't moving, Five. I...I can't feel it" she cried and Five hurried to grab her hand. He tried to control his facial expression, he tried to calm Maddie down although he was never been more worried than he was right now.

There was crashed car in which Five's wife was basically trapped and no one knew what was going on with the baby.

Five swallowed "Everything's going to be alright, Love. I promise you" he said "Listen, the ambulance is on its way and so are the firefighters. They'll get you our of here and our little baby will be fine again" his voice was slightly shaking, but she nodded. She did all she could to stay optimistic although she had never been this scared in her whole life.

"I need to call Diego, he is closest by" Five murmured "Don't leave me alone!" Maddie's eyes widened in fear, she didn't want to stay alone, she needed Five by her side "I'll be back in a minute" Five said and let go of her hand. She watched him making some steps aside and taking the phone out of his pocket.

Five came back a minute later "Diego said he will be here as soon as possible. And...the ambulance must arrive any minute now" he calmly said but his eyes told Maddie otherwise. He was scared and so was she.

Five really wish he had his powers, then he could get her out of there and he knew that Maddie couldn't use her powers, she was too injured.

Her hands were laying on her baby bump and she gently stroked it in hope she would feel the baby kick again.

At the moment she wouldn't wish for anything more for her baby to kick into her kidneys. But there was nothing.

After what felt like an eternity to Five and Maddie, they could finally hear the ambulance and firefighters come closer.

"Maddie, Five!" Five turned around to see Diego hurry towards the car. Diego looked through the window and examined Maddie "How are you feeling? Are you in pain?" he asked.

Maddie shrugged "I'm...I'm not sure. My head is hurting like hell and the cuts are burning...my...my legs kind of hurt too. I just...Diego, I can't feel my baby moving" the last words were just a whisper on her lips and she felt tears running down her cheeks.

Diego gave his sister an encouraging smile "It will all be fine, Maddie" she escaped a short smile when she heard those words

"Everyone's saying that but...but...what if...it won't be all fine again?"

"Nope, stop" Five disagreed "I don't allow you to have negative thoughts right now, okay?" his green eyes examined Maddie and the expression on his face told her that there was no chance to answer back. So she just nodded.

"Okay, we need to step back right now, Five. The firefighters will try to get Maddie out of the car" Diego stepped closer and grabbed Five's arm. He shot a glance at Maddie and then smiled "Hang on, sis" Maddie nodded once again and then closed her eyes. She wished she could sleep. She wished she could forget the pain and fear she was feeling.

"No, I'm okay! I don't need any treatment, I just...my god, can't you just leave me alone and care about my wife and our unborn child?!" Five's voice rose with every word he was saying. He didn't care about the wound on his forehead, he wasn't even really in pain. He was just worried about Maddie and wanted her out of that car as soon as possible. There would be time later to get his wound vetted.

"Five, you better let the doctors do their job, okay? You can't do anything to help Maddie right now. The firefighters are doing everything they can and you'd be in the way. Just sit down" Diego calmly said and brought Five back to the ambulance, where he sat down, not pleased at all.

In the meantime, the firefighters tried to get Maddie out of the car. It was a long process but after a bit more than an hour, it was finally done. Maddie could feel the relief on her legs and tried to move them. It worked.

"Okay, let's get her into the hospital" a paramedic said that had appeared out of nowhere. Maddie let them do everything with her. She just wanted to get rid of the pain. And she needed to know what was going on with her baby.

"Is my baby alright?" she asked while they carried her to the ambulance "We don't know yet. We'll check in the hospital" the paramedic said.

"Five...." Maddie's husband was nowhere to be seen and she started to worry about him now as well.

"I'm here Love" he came running towards her, followed by Diego who was just as worried as him.

"Can I drive with you?" he asked and the paramedic nodded "I will meet you there, just go" Diego said and Five nodded as the door closed.

Five then lay a kiss on her belly "Please be okay too, little one. Your mom and dad are still so excited in meeting you, so please don't give up. We were told that you were strong, so you proof that for us" he said before he sat back down.

He grabbed her left hand with his right while his left hand was laying on the middle of her baby bump.

"I don't know what I would do if I ever lost you two" he said.

During the whole drive, Five was holding Maddie's hand and wouldn't even let go of her when they brought her into the hospital.

"Sir, you have to wait here now" a nurse told him and hold him up.

He turned his head "But...but my wife....our baby" he stuttered. She examined him with pitiful look. "I'm sorry, but you can't join her. We have to check her and the baby. Please wait here and we'll inform you as soon as possible"

Five knew that he couldn't do anything about that, so he kissed his wife on the forehead before he let go of her hand as she was wheeled away.

With a deep sigh he went over to the empty waiting rom and let himself sink on one of the chairs. He buried his face in his hand.

What had happened? One minute they had been on their way back from a dinner and the next Maddie was injured and no one knew if their child in her stomach was still alive or not.

Diego, Lila, Luther and Klaus joined Five only 10 minutes later. Without saying a world, they sat down as well and Klaus put a hand on Five's shoulders.

No words were needed at this moment. The five were all worried and they all prayed that everything would be alright.

Nervously Five was pacing through the waiting room. He hadn't gotten any news so far and Maddie were getting checked over an hour now.

A doctor have also check up on Five for the cut he had and he have gotten some stitched. He had a tiny traumatic brain injury but otherwise he was fine, he got lucky, but he didn't feel lucky. He wish that he was in Maddie's condition instead of her.

"Five, sit down" Klaus eventually said. But Five shook his head "I can't. I'm nervous, okay?" he said.

"But it doesn't help Maddie in any way if you're freaking out here" Luther said as he stood up from the chair and walked over to Five "Come on, let's get some coffee and something to eat"

"We will stay here" Klaus said and Five nodded before he left with Luther.

Few minutes later, a doctor came in "Is anyone here for Maddie Delany?" he looked at Diego, Lila and Klaus and they got up "We're here" they said and the doctor nodded "Is our sister going to be okay?" Diego asked "Yes she is. She's got mild concussion and bruises though. We'd like to keep her for a few more days, just to be sure" he explained.

They nodded "And...what about the baby?" Klaus asked "The baby is fine, don't worry. You can see her if you want. She's room 220"

10 minutes later Five return with Luther and he saw Diego, Klaus and Lila return to the waiting room which 'cause his eyes to widened before he rushed over to them.

"Is everything okay?" he asked "Relax Five, everything is fine. Maddie is okay, and so is the baby" Five let out a breath in relief "She is asking for you. She is in room 220" Klaus said and Five nodded.

Slowly and as quiet as possible, Five opened the door and glanced into the room. There she was. His beautiful and wonderful wife was laying in bed, covered with small bruises but awake.

"Hey" she smiled at him and reached her hand out into his direction. He hurried over to the bed and grabbed her hand before kissing it.

She storke her other hand down his stitches that was on my left eyebrow.

"I'm okay" he smiled as he leaned into her touch and she smiled.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" she asked "Tired. And...I'm having a pretty huge headache, but the doctors said that's normal. Our little goofball is fine too" she said, her free hand on her baby bump.

For a moment there was silence the room, before Maddie looked up at Five again.

"I'm so sorry, Darling" he whispered and squeezed her hand. She just shook her head. "That wasn't your fault, Five. It was the other driver's fault, he jumped the lights. You couldn't have done anything" she said.

Five sighed and leaned over to placed his head on her baby bump. With a smile on her face she let her fingers run through his messy hair.

"Get some sleep now, Love. I'll stay here" he eventually said and she closed her eyes. It was true, she was so tired. And the headache would maybe disappear if she'd just get enough sleep now.

Five was here, she was alright. And so was their baby. And they would be fine again as well. With that thought she fell asleep almost immediately while Five remained sitting on his chair, next to the bed and gently stroke her hand and baby bump.

At a time he crawled up in bed with her so he was closer to her.

A knock on the door was heard and it opened before Klaus enter "Hey, I just wanted to ask if there is anything you guys need?" he asked "It's sweet of you Klaus, but everything is good here" Maddie said "You really gave Five a scare there" Klaus said as he enter the room "Yeah, and I'm sorry for worry you guys" Maddie said "It's okay" Klaus said before he handed her something.

It was a small present.

"What is it?" she asked curiously as she took the wrapped, angled present. Klaus grinned "Oh, it's something that will help you and Five" he simply said and excitedly waited for she to unwrap it.

Five then enter the hospital room again "What's going on?" he asked "A book full of names" she then exclaimed and held it up to show Five.

He took it from her and quickly flipped through it. "Wow, that's a lot of names" he murmured and handed it back to her while she grinned.

"You guys won't have that much time anymore to find a name for your baby, so you better start the discussion about it now" he said "Klaus, I'm only six months pregnant, there are still around three more to go" she said "Yeah, but time past through so fast and before you know it, you are in labor and the little one will be here, therefore it's good to be ahead sometimes" Klaus said before he left the room, closing the door behind him.

Five joined Maddie in bed, he didn't want to keep sitting on that uncomfortable chair. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and then they both started to look through that book full of names.

Since Five was a faster reader than Maddie, he looked through the book faster than her. She examined him interested. She didn't have any chance to read all the names that were writing in that book, so she were waiting for him to make some suggestions.

"Hmm....What about Allan or Louisa?" Five glanced at her and she grimaced and shook her head.

"Okay, then...Lara? Or Micheal?" Once again she shook her head "Okay, Joyce or Jesse?" Maddie shook her head.

Five shrugged and put the book aside "Well, then you will have to look at the names" he simply replied and for a moment she thought he might be offended. But he smiled at her and wrapped an arm around her.

She placed her head on his chest and sighed "We still got time to decide on a name" she snuggled even more into his embrace

"I love you so much" he whispered into her ear when she was already drifted away. A little smile formed on her voice when she heard his voice as she felled asleep.

Five woke up not long after falling asleep, he had a horrible dream. He didn't know what it was about but he know it was bad because he had a tear ran down his cheek. He quickly wiped it away because he didn't wanted Maddie to see him cry again.

Five then looked down and realized that she was in his arms. All he could see was the lop of her head and her hand going across her torso. He felt her warm like the sun falling down on him. Their legs were tangled. Without thinking he started rubbing her back as he just stared at her with love stuck.

Five stroked her baby bump while he watched her sleeping. He was so incredibly glad that he could still hold her in his arms. That there was still his baby in her stomach. He was thankful that he still got his wife and baby.
