*Chapter Twenty Six*
"The vampires are held and tested on on the lowest level," Wes explains sitting no the edge of the bed. He tries to fight against the compulsion Damon put on him but it's impossible. He had no choice but to tell them everything they want to know. "You'll need this to get in"
"Charming" Alvina mutters grabbing the key card Wes held out for her. His picture is at the top with his name and information in the middle with a bar code at the bottom.
"You'll need to punch in the correct code," Wes further explains while ignoring her little comment. "947738. Punch that into the keypad after scanning the badge"
"Sounds easy enough" Alvina shrugs tucking it into the pocket of her slacks.
"The records are stored on the 4th floor. There you'll find information on everyone who works for Augustine. There's both paper copies and electronic ones." Wes says looking at Damon. "Get what you need. If you're going to burn the place down, that's where you should do it"
"Starting a fire will cause alarms to go off" Alvina jumps in.
"Once the alarms go off, everything will shut down" Wes continues. "If you're still in the lower level when the shut down begins, you won't get out" Wes tells Alvina. "Get the two vampires and get out or you'll never escape"
"What's life without a little risk" Alvina smirks looking at Damon who's less than amused. "It'll be alright, Dames" She assures him.
"When the first starts just exit with everyone else. They'll be too occupied getting everyone out to car who is leaving" Wes says looking back at Damon. "But don't be the last one out because by then they'll realize that the fire was set deliberately and they'll start holding people back"
"If Enzo and Emilia are anything like you," Alvina says glancing at Damon. "Then they're not going to leave quietly, they'll kill everyone in their path"
"Then make sure they do it quickly and quietly, if you get caught-"
"We won't be able to leave, yeah, I figured that much" Alvina mumbles nodding.
"So, yeah, that's about it" Wes nods. "Good luck" He says giving them a sarcastic smile. "Hope it all goes south"
"Well, if it goes south for us, it'll go south for you" Damon smirks. "You didn't think we were just going to leave you behind, did you?"
"What more can I do?" Wes frowns his eyebrows.
"Help us blend in" Alvina shrugs. "Help Tweedledum over here get the right records," She nods her head over to Damon. She knew he wouldn't know exactly what he was looking at but he wanted to find a way to locate the other members of Augustine and get his own revenge on them. The fire would destroy a building, not kill those responsible for causing him, Enzo, and Emilia pain.
"No, I am not going" Wes snapped.
"Yeah, you don't have a choice so better get your shoes on" Damon smirks. Alvina grins and goes to grab her own shoes. "Hey, are you sure you don't want to try and get some rest first?" Damon asks walking up to Alvina knowing she is going close to 24 hours without sleep, they both were.
"I'm fine, Damon" She assures him. "Besides, there's no way I could sleep right now. Not when I'm this close to getting him" Damon holds her gaze before slowly nodding.
"I just don't want you falling asleep in the middle of a mission, that would prove to be problematic" Damon grins.
"Says that one that got shot with a vervain dart by a human," Alvina shoots back. "I don't think it's me who you should be worried about"
"It was dumb luck" Damon scoffs. "I'd like to see him do it twice"
"Oh, but he did get you with vervain twice... I think you're loosing your touch grandpa" Alvina jabs his side. Damon smacks her hand away from him. She laughs a bit and slips on her shoes. "Hey, Damon" He looks at her. "If things turn south, I want you to get out. Leave and don't come back"
"Al, I'm not-"
"Go back to Mystic Falls" She cuts him off. "Get Stefan, maybe you and him will have better luck"
"Yeah but me and Stefan aren't the same team as you and I are" Damon winks at her. "We're going to kick their ass; Augustine won't know what hit them" Alvina smiles at him. "Stefan knows where we are, he'll come for us if we don't return. Either we both get out or neither of us, I'm not leaving you behind"
"Do you always have to be so ungodly stubborn?" Alvina asks him.
"Guess I've been hanging around you too long," Damon teases causing her to laugh sarcastically. "You ready to go?"
"Hell yeah" Alvina nods. "You ready doc?" She asks Wes.
"Let's just go" Wes grumbles walking out of the apartment.
"I don't think he likes working with us" Alvina pouts following after him.
"Don't take it personally, I don't think he likes a lot of people" Damon whispers to her. Alvina shrugs while Wes rolls his eyes.
"Wow, talk about hiding in plain sight" Alvina mutters as they walk into one of the buildings on campus.
"A lot of students use this as a research lab building, it's for projects and such" Wes explains.
"Interesting" Alvina mutters boringly.
"Take those elevators" Wes directs Alvina. "Use the key card and hit the last button twice"
"Alright, I'll see you on the other side" Alvina smiles at Damon.
"Hey," Damon quickly grabs her arm. "Be careful, if you have to leave do it. We can always come back for him" Damon tells her.
"This is going to work, I promise" Alvina smiles at him. "Trust me" She winks before walking towards the elevators. She enters and scans the card. The elevator lowers her to the lower level.
Once the doors opened she proceeded forward. She could feel herself become more anxious the further she walked. So many things could go wrong yet at the same time she's so close to getting him out. Pushing all the negative thoughts out of her mind she forces herself to focus on what she needs to do.
There's a few people wondering around the halls but they hardly pay attention to her. She keeps to herself and acts casual. She acts as if she's been there before, like she belongs.
She follows the specific directions Wes had told her. She turns down different hallways. She hoped that she would find them sooner rather than later.
Her brisk walk slowed down as her hearing picked up muffled screams. Frowning her eyebrows she follows the noise. It leads her to a room. She peaks through the viewing window and sees a female vampire strapped to a table.
Alvina could feel her anger and hatred towards Augustine rise as she watched them poke and prob her.She desperately wanted to save who she could only assume is Emilia but knew she had to find Enzo first. Saving Emilia would sent off alarms far too soon.
Reluctantly, Alvina moves away from the door and continues down the hall. She looks around trying not to look as frantic as she felt. Seeing what has been happening, she wanted to get Enzo out even more than before, it that was possible.
"Where are you baby?" Alvina whispers looking down two different halls feeling as if she had gotten lost.
She glances at her watch and knows that her time is running out. Damon said that he would start the first 25 minutes after they separated. This means that she has less than 15 minutes to find Enzo, get Emilia, and escape.
"Huh," Alvina mutters stopping in front of a door. She could feel Enzo. She knew that he was on the other side. Using the key card she opens the door and slips in.
Almost instantly, she's hit with his scent. She takes a moment to simply breathe it in before following it. She notices there's a few cells side to side. In the center is a man sitting on the floor leaning against the wall. She moves up to the bars and leans against them.
"And who might you be, beautiful?" A tired British accent sounds from the man.
"Your savior, handsome" Alvina flirts. He slowly stands up eyeing her.
"You must be new" Enzo comments. "You're not allowed past the line" He inches towards her.
"I'm not Augustine" Alvina tells him. He tilts is head looking at her both curiously yet wearily. Suddenly, he speeds towards her and wraps his hand around her throat with the intention to drain her dry and attempt to escape. Only, as soon as he touches her he senses the bond.
"It's you" He whispers finally recognizing their connection. Alvina smiles as the both of them feel their soul marks tingle as they change color. "You're here," He moves his hand from around her neck to the side of her face. She smiles and leans against his touch. "What are you doing here?" He frowns his eyebrows. "You can't be here, you have to go" He says becoming frantic.
"I'm not leaving without you," She says sternly. "You've been here for long enough, don't you think?" She grins before stepping away from his touch. She moves towards the door and waves the badge grinning when the door opens.
Enzo stands within the cell. He eyes her cautiously. He wanted to trust her, his instincts were telling him to trust her but he felt hesitant.
"Please," She whispers holding her hand out to him. "I know I'm asking a lot of you but we have to go, we don't have much time" He slowly walks towards her. "I know where Emilia is, we're going to get her and leave," He grabs her hand, his body slowly losing tension through her touch. "Oh, and you know, you can kill anyone in our way,"
"Now that, love, I can do" Enzo grins. She grins back at him and leads him out of the room. He holds onto her hand tightly and walks close beside her. She quickly leads him back to the room where she last saw Emilia.
"She's still there" Alvina whispers before using the badge to open the door. Enzo presses her against the wall with his hand before walking into the room on his own. Alvina stays by the door while watching out for anybody else.
Alvina peeks into the room and grins seeing Enzo viciously feeding off of one of the doctors while Emilia feeds off of the other. She didn't pay too much attention to the female vampire but Enzo is a sight to see.
"You finished?" Alvina asks bringing their attention back to her. Emilia growls and steps towards her but Enzo is quick to move between them.
"Easy, she's with me" Enzo tells her.
"Do you even know who she is? We can't trust her" Emilia snapped.
"Well, I am the one that released him from his cell and lead him to you," Alvina grumbles rolling her eyes. "We don't have much time, we've got to get going"
"Make one wrong move and I'll rip your throat out" Emilia growls at Alvina.
"You'll do no such thing" Enzo snapped.
"Calm down, children, we have move" Alvina says slipping her hand into Enzo's. She lead the two of them towards the nearest exit. Every time they came close to another human either Enzo or Emilia would kill and drain their blood. "Come on, this way"
The three of them make it to the staircase and begin climbing up it. A few moments later an alarm goes off. The three of them pause and listen as they hear everyone begin to leave the building.
"What's going on?" Emilia asks as Alvina looks at her watch.
"Some asshole started the fire too soon" Alvina grumbles before quickly scaling up the staircase.
"There's others?" Emilia asks.
"One other, a dimwit who wouldn't stay home" Alvina says not wanting to say his name in front of Enzo. She wasn't sure if he'd recognize the name and didn't know if he had any ill feelings towards him. "Just blend in" Alvina mutters.
"Yes because two people who haven't showered in decades wearing tattered clothes will blend right in," Emilia mutters sarcastically.
"Then get caught and thrown back in the cell" Alvina snapped. "I didn't come for you, but I'm a nice person.... most of the time..." Alvina adds with a shrug. "Blend in or not, I don't care, but I'm getting Enzo out of here. Come with us if you want or try it on your own because you seemed to be doing just wonderful on your own,"
"Fine, we'll do things your way" Emilia grumbles.
"Thanks, Princess" Alvina smirks before leading them into the crowd.
"Hey, genius" Emilia snarks gaining Alvina's attention. "How exactly are we going to leave in broad daylight?" She asks tilting her head. Alvina's heart drops as she notices the sun coming out from the clouds.
"Shit" Alvina whispers.
"We can't stay here, we're going to be noticed" Emilia presses.
"I know, I know, I'm thinking" Alvina mutters looking around for an idea.
"Mind thinking a little faster? Did you honestly not consider the sunlight? You're rescuing two vampires, how could you not think of this?" Emilia growls.
"The vampires I hang out with have daylight rings, so sorry it didn't come to mind" Alvina snapped.
"Relax," Enzo mutters giving her hand a squeeze. "You know this area better than we do, where can we go?" Enzo questions. "Somewhere dark, somewhere away from everyone"
"This is a bad idea" Alvina whispers. "Come on," She pulls them through the crowd and off to the side. They go through a service door. Some security guards try to redirect them but Enzo and Emilia take care of them. Alvina leads them towards the back exit when her phone rings.
"Where are you?" Damon asks instantly.
"Going through a detour, where are you?"
"Detour? What do you mean detour? Al, get the hell out of there" Damon snaps. Enzo glances at her curiously obviously recognizing the voice.
"They don't have daylight rings," Alvina explains. "I'm taking them out the back way, mind meeting us there with a car?"
"I'll see what I can find" Damon says. "Just get out of there,"
"I'm working out it," Alvina says before hanging up on him.
"Damon Salvatore?" Enzo questions. She gives him a sheepish smile. "That's your friend that came with you?"
"He's one of the only friends I have," She tells him. "When I told him I was trying to break someone out of Augustine, he wouldn't let me go alone."
"Well, good thing he's at least loyal to someone" Enzo mutters.
"Let's just focus on getting out of here before we bring up the past," Alvina mutters.
