*Chapter Thirty Seven*

"Bonnie," Enzo calls walking towards the witch. She spins around and frowns her eyebrows. "Where are you going?"

"To get my grimoire," Bonnie says simply. "I left it at home,"

"Where's Jeremy?"

"I don't know," Bonnie shrugs. "Check with Alvina," She suggests before continuing towards her car. Enzo watches her for a moment before looking towards the house. He listens for Jeremy despite having a sinking feeling that Jeremy is long gone.

"You better not be going to the tomb Jeremy," Enzo mumbles, walking into the woods. "Or not even I can save you from our mate,"

"Damon, where's Enzo and Jeremy?" Alvina asks, walking up to him. Damon just shrugs.

"You're their mate, you tell me," Damon says, looking at her. "Don't you have like some weird mate radar thing in your head?"

"1. It's not weird, it's natural. 2. It's not really radar, it's a connection-"

"Radar," Damon smirks, prompting Alvina to roll her eyes. "Talk to Jeremy with your mind walkie talkie,"

"You're a literal five-year-old," Alvina tells him. Damon winks at her. "Jeremy, where are you?"

"Uh, I'm with Bonnie," Jeremy answers. Alvina frowns sensing the lie.

"Find lover boy?" Damon asks.

"I'll meet you at the tomb," Alvina says before turning into her fairy form. Damon watches her fly into the woods as Stefan walks up beside him.

"What's up with her?" Stefan asks, and Damon shrugs.

"Boy trouble," He answers. "She's meeting us at the tomb; let's get going," Stefan nods.

"The youngest Gilbert. This is an intriguing surprise," Katherine says from within the tomb.

"I'm here for the moonstone," Jeremy tells her.

"Yeah, yeah, the moonstone," Katherine rolls her eyes. "It's very popular today,"

"Just give it to me," Jeremy demands.

"Naïve little Gilbert," Katherine sighs. "If you want it, you're gonna have to come here and get it," Katherine baits. Jeremy smirks slightly before shooting a stake into her stomach. Katherine gasps before pulling the stake out. She growls, racing towards Jeremy only for him to throw the ashes into her face. His smirk broadens when she drops unconscious.

"I kind of figured you'd say that," Jeremy snarks.

"Nice shot," Jeremy freezes before he enters the tomb. "I will admit, I'm a little turned on right now,"

"I thought you were with Alvina," Jeremy says, turning just enough to see Enzo.

"Well, I was, but then I started to think," Enzo says, inching closer to Jeremy. "You kissed Alvina before running off... Where's my kiss?" He wonders. "I don't consider myself a jealous man but fair's fair, you know?"

"I'll give you your kiss once I get the moonstone," Jeremy says. "I don't know how long those ashes are gonna work, so excuse me," Enzo speeds towards Jeremy but the teenager had already stepped into the tomb.

"You're insufferable," Enzo grumbles, freezing at the threshold. Jeremy shrugs, kneeling beside Katherine.

"It's a family trait," He comments while patting Katherine down for the moonstone.

"Hurry up," Enzo urges.

"I'm going, I'm going," Jeremy mutters, going deeper into the crypt. After looking around, he finally finds it. He grabs the stone and stands. When he turns around, he gasps, seeing Katherine standing there with hungry eyes. She goes to latch onto his neck, but she's thrown from him. Before he can comprehend what's going on, he's being thrown out of the tomb.

"You couldn't just wait for Bonnie," Enzo sighs, standing within the tomb.

"And who is this handsome man?" Katherine asks, coming up beside him. Instead of answering, Enzo snaps her neck.

"That was oddly satisfying," Enzo muses before looking back at Jeremy.

"Jeremy," Alvina says, appearing behind him. Jeremy jumps, spinning around. "Enzo? What are you doing in there?"

"Oh, just admiring the view," Enzo smirks, leaning against the wall. Alvina frowns her eyebrows, looking over him and then Jeremy.

"Is that the moonstone?" She asks, seeing the stone in Jeremy's hand. "And how exactly did you get it?" She asks, walking up to him.

"Oh, uh..." Jeremy rubs the back of his neck. "I used the ashes to knock Katherine out to get the stone,"

"Ok," Alvina says, her eyes flickering to Enzo. "Keep talking,"

"Katherine woke up before I could leave the tomb. Enzo stopped her from feeding on me, but now he's stuck with her," Jeremy admitted, his eyes darting between his two mates and the ground.

"We had a plan, Jeremy," Alvina says, trying to keep her voice steady and calm. "What were you thinking?"

"Bonnie's not strong enough to lift the spell on her own, you know that," Jeremy said defensively.

"Oh, so you decided to just take on a vampire all on your own?" Alvina asks, tilting her head.

"You were thinking the same thing," Jeremy quickly brings up.

"Yeah, but the difference between you and me is that my strength rivals hers," Alvina says. "I can defend myself easier than you can. A fairy versus a vampire makes a lot more sense than a teenage human,"

"I just wanted to help," Jeremy admitted.

"And look what you did," Alvina snapped. "Because you decided to go out on your own and play hero, our mate is locked in the tomb with that whore," She growled, slowly losing her temper. Jeremy lowers his gaze to the ground. Alvina rubs her face and paces for a moment. "What if Enzo wasn't here?" Alvina asks Jeremy. "You'd be in there with Katherine, and who knows if she would have left you alive," She says, her voice wavering slightly. Alvina didn't want to think about Jeremy being stuck with Katherine, but that's all Alvina could think about. She worried about Enzo but knew he could deal with Katherine. "Do you know what would happen to me if you died? What would happen to Enzo?"

"I'm sorry," Jeremy whispers, reaching for Alvina but steps back as he falls under her fierce glare. Alvina takes another breath, running her fingers through her hair.

"Look, I know you want to save your sister," Alvina begins. "I promise that we will do everything we can to protect her. But you can't do this, Jeremy, you can't risk your life like this. If we start trading lives, where will it end?" Alvina asks him. "We have to work together, we have to find ways to do things that won't end with one of us dead. I know how difficult that can be with our lives but I won't have you going around looking for the next opportunity to play the hero without knowing the consequences of risking your life. Jeremy, you could have died!"

"I know, I know. I'm sorry," Jeremy says, stepping up to her, but she avoids his arms. She knew the moment he hugged her, she would forgive him, and her anger would dissipate. She wanted to be angry for a little longer, at least until she was satisfied that he understood.

"I don't want you to be sorry, Jeremy. I don't care if you're sorry or not," Alvina tells him. "I don't want to have to worry about you making idiotic choices."

"I won't do it again," Jeremy promises. Alvina scoffs, shaking her head.

"You're a teenager, you're a Gilbert, it'll happen again," Alvina grumbles. "Just... next time, don't do it alone," Alvina pleads. Jeremy gives her a small smile. "Come here," She whispers, opening her arms. Jeremy falls into them and holds her tightly. Alvina holds him for a moment before roughly pinching his side. Jeremy squeals and wiggles away from her. "May that serve to you as a reminder not to do stupid shit," Alvina says, pointing towards him.

"Ow!" He shouted, holding his side. "That hurt!"

"Obviously," Alvina rolls her eyes. Enzo chuckles, shaking his head at the pair of them.

"What the hell is going on here?" Stefan asks, arriving with Bonnie.

"Tweedle Dee over here decided to take things into his own hands," Alvina says, nodding towards Jeremy. "Now Enzo's stuck in the tomb," She says, turning towards the English vampire.

"And the moonstone?" Bonnie asks. Jeremy holds the stone up.

"Do you have enough juice to get him out?" Alvina asks Bonnie. Bonnie looks towards the tomb where Enzo is still leaning against the wall.

"I can do it," She says confidently.

"Good," Alvina smiles. "Let's get started,"

Alvina, Stefan, Bonnie, and Jeremy begin setting up for the spell. The boys worked on the torches while Alvina helped with practicing the spell. Alvina tried to give her pointers, but there wasn't much to say. Bonnie greatly appreciated Alvina's help.

"Where the hell is Damon?" Stefan grumbles.

"Tweedle dum been missing long?" Alvina wonders.

"He just left without saying anything," Stefan tells her.

"As idiotic as he is, I'm sure he has a reason," Alvina reassures Stefan. "If he isn't back by the time we get Enzo out, then we'll work on rescue number two,"

"Uh, that would be rescue number three, love," Enzo speaks out, having moved from standing to sitting against the wall. "I save Jeremy, you save me, we save Damon," He holds up three fingers. "Three," He whispers, wiggling the fingers.

"Right, three rescues. Everything happens in threes; not sure if that's good luck or not," Alvina whispers to herself. Stefan sighs, rubbing his face.

"What's going on?" Katherine groans, sitting up.

"Good afternoon, love," Enzo says sarcastically. Katherine looks towards him, a seductive smirk coming onto her lips.

"A good afternoon indeed," Alvina growls loudly. Katherine's eyes turn towards her. "You're a new face," Katherine comments.

"I'd say the same about you, but I swear I've seen you before somewhere," Alvina says, tapping her chin as if she were thinking. Katherine gives her a look and rolls her eyes.

"You must be that fairy Damon's been hanging around lately," Katherine rolls her eyes. Enzo growls warningly. "Don't you have flowers to pollinate?"

"Don't you have brothers to play with?" Alvina snapped back. "Oh wait," Alvina sarcastically winces. "You're not doing too hot in the boy section,"

"I don't know," Katherine muses, turning her gaze towards Enzo. "I think my luck is changing," She winks at him. Alvina instantly stands, growling loudly. She marches up to the tomb, but Enzo blocks her from coming in.

"Don't," He whispers, not wanting to risk her becoming trapped in the tomb. Alvina sighs, relaxing when Jeremy's arms wrap around her waist. Her glare turns towards Katherine.

"Ever had a fairy bite before?" Alvina asks. Katherine merely raises her eyebrows causing Alvina to smirk. "This spell won't be between us forever,"

"I'm so scared," Katherine rolls her eyes, pushing herself to a stand. "In the meantime," She whispers, dragging her nails along Enzo's clothed chest. Alvina growls, but before she can do anything, Enzo spins around and snaps her neck.

"If she touches you again, she will suffer my bite a thousand times over," Alvina growls angrily. Enzo growls in return but not out of anger but out of lust.

"So, sexy," Enzo growls again. Alvina smirks, relaxing into Jeremy more.

"We'll get you out of here soon, baby," Alvina promises. Enzo winks before going to sit back down. "So, how are you going to do this, Bon?" Alvina asks, kneeling beside the witch once more. "You barely had enough energy for the ashes," She whispers just low enough for Bonnie. Stefan and Enzo could still hear, but Stefan wasn't exactly paying attention.

"I can do this," Bonnie whispers. "Please, trust me," Alvina sighs but nods. It took a little while longer to complete the preparation for the spell. "Ok, I'm ready," Bonnie says, standing up. Alvina nods, standing off to the side with Jeremy. Bonnie begins to chant the spell.

"Oh, something's happening," Katherine says, waking up. Jeremy grips onto Alvina tightly, gnawing at his lip. Alvina watches Bonnie closely. Soon the torches flare as Bonnie uses more magic. Alvina's eyes flicker to Bonnie's hand. She notices Bonnie holding something, a necklace, tightly.

"Bonnie..." Stefan says, noticing her nose begin to bleep.

"Love, stop her," Enzo says from inside the tomb. Alvina looks at him. "Where do we stop if we start trading lives?" Enzo asks, tilting his head. "Stop her,"

"Bonnie," Alvina says, grabbing onto the witch. "Bonnie! Stop!" Bonnie's eyes lock with Alvina's before she passes out. "Bonnie?" Alvina whispers, holding onto her tightly. "Bonnie, wake up... Wake up, Bonnie,"

"Yes, please! Because I'm still in here!" Katherine shouts from the tomb.

"Bonnie," Alvina whispers. The witch finally wakes up. "Bonnie," Alvina whispers in relief.

"Are you ok?" Stefan asks, helping her stand steady.

"It didn't work," Bonnie sighs, looking at the tomb. "I'm sorry," She instantly tells Alvina. "I'm not strong enough,"

"It's ok, Bonnie, it's fine," Alvina smiles, grabbing her hand. "We'll find another way," She reassures, hugging Bonnie tightly. "We'll find another way, don't worry about it," Alvina comforts, feeling a little guilty for not stopping Bonnie sooner. She had seen Bonnie's spell working and desperately wanted Enzo with her, wanted Enzo away from Katherine.

"Oh, how touching," Katherine groans. Enzo rolls his eyes and snaps her neck once more.

"I have a feeling I'll be doing that all bloody night," Enzo groans.
