*Chapter Sixteen* {History Repeating}
*Skipped 162 Candles*
"Good morning everyone" Alvina glances up from her desk and notices a new teacher walking into the room. "Alighty" He mutters to himself as he writes his name on the board. "Alaric Saltzman. It's a mouthful, I know. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Saltzman is of German origins. My family emigrated here in 1755 to Texas. I, however, was born and raised in Boston. Now the name Alaric belongs to a very dead great-grandfather I will never be able to thank enough" He says sarcastically. Alvina smirks liking the teacher already. "You'll probably want to pronounce 'Alaric' but it's 'Alaric', ok? So, you can call me Rick. I'm your new history teacher"
"Some introduction" Alvina mutters to herself leaning back in her seat.
Once class is let out for lunch Alvina doesn't waste anytime hunting Jeremy down. She grins spotting him at his locker. She skips over to him and practically barrels into him. He stumbles slightly and then laughs looking at Alvina.
"We should have stayed in bed today" Alvina whispers to him. "I need a lazy day and soon. I am so tired of cleaning up Damon's mess and making sure those brothers don't kill each other. I keep telling myself not to get involved and look where I'm at, I'm involved"
"You only do the bare minimum" Jeremy reminds her. "All you do is make sure they don't kill each other"
"It's a full time job, Jer" Alvina complains leaning against the lockers as he finishes changing out books. "Time wasted on them when I could easily be wasting that time with you" She winks at him.
"I wouldn't call it a waste of time when we're together" Jeremy said with a slight grin.
"No, of course not" She grins kissing his cheek. He closes the locker and grabs her hand. "Come on, let's get something to eat"
"I have to go see my history teacher real quick, wanna come?" He asks. She nods quickly not wanting to be away from him. He grins and kisses her forehead before leading her to Alaric's classroom. "Hey Mr. Saltzman, I'm Jeremy Gilbert. You wanted to see me?"
"Oh, yeah, hey" Alaric smiles at him before looking at Alvina. "Alvina, right?" He says and she smiles nodding. He glances back at Jeremy not sure if he wanted Alvina to be here.
"She's my girlfriend, we don't hide anything" Jeremy says shrugging. "Whatever you say to me, you can say to her. She'll find out one way or another" He grins at her. She rolls her eyes at him but shrugs not denying it.
"Alright" Alaric smiles at them. "You know that your old teacher had a jackass file? No joke" Alaric holds up a particularly large file. "It's typed on a label. It has all the troublemakers in it. But really it's just an opus to you" Jeremy tenses slightly. Alvina leans into him and wraps her other arm around his. "Don't worry" Alaric assures him throwing the file into the trashcan. "I'm not him. Clean slate. Now, let's talk about grades."
"I know it's been a rough couple of months, but I've been trying to tun them around" Jeremy said glancing down at Alvina knowing she was the reason he wanted to try harder.
"Yeah, I saw that. But, the problem is, we're halfway through a semester and half a fail is still pretty bleak" Alaric tells him. "This is the part where you say to me, 'But what can I do to change that?' I'm glad you asked!" Alvina giggles. The sound helps Jeremy relax. "How do you feel about extra credit?"
"Yeah, yeah, totally" Jeremy nods his head quickly.
"Good! Write me a paper, then" Alaric tells him.
"Ok, about what?"
"History. Pick a topic, keep it local, and no Wikipedia-regurgita. These old towns have rich history, so just get your hands dirty, make it sing and your back on track. Deal?"
"Yeah, deal" Jeremy nods before noticing something on his hand. "That's a cool ring" Alvina glances at it.
"Oh, thanks. It was my father's" Alaric said awkwardly. Alvina tilts her head slightly feeling some type of magic from it. "A little garish, but family, you know?" Jeremy nods. "You've got a week" Alaric tells him.
"Come on, let's get some lunch" Alvina says pulling him out of the room.
"Aunt Jenna was thinking about going to the Grill tonight, wanna come?" Jeremy asks standing in the lunch line.
"Of course" Alvina nods. "I like Jenna, I think we've been getting along lately"
"She likes you" Jeremy smiles. "She thinks your quirky" He smirks. Alvina grins loving that description of her. "A breath of fresh air"
"I do try my best" Alvina dramatically flips her hair. He smirks and leans over to kiss her head. She shoots him a smile. "At least I have one family member of yours liking me" She tells him.
"Elena's... difficult" Jeremy tells her. Alvina scoffs.
"Understatement of the year" Alvina says. "You know, statistically, you are more likely to die dating a vampire than a fairy" She tells him. The lunch lady arches an eyebrow at them. "What?" Alvina snipped. The lunch lady just shakes her head, gives them both a sandwich before they move on. "You're sister needs to get off her high horse. We're soulmates. I thought she would have realized I wouldn't let anything happen to you after proving I can protect you."
"I know, I know" Jeremy grabs her tray and carries it. She gives him a small smile and pecks his cheek. "Why do you want her approval so badly?"
"Because she's important to you" Alvina says smiling at him. "You love her, she's your sister. You two have been through so much together."
"I appreciate you trying" Jeremy says as they sit down. Jeremy sits with one leg on either side of the bench by the table. He pulls Alvina toward him. She rests both her legs over his, sitting sideways compared to him. She leans into her chest. "But I don't like seeing you upset. You've done everything you can, its up to Elena what she wants to do. She's an idiot for not accepting you. I'm not saying it won't ever happen but don't get upset over it. I love you"
"I love you too" She whispers turning her head to him. He grins and kisses her lips softly, his hands caressing her side. "So, any ideas on what you're gonna do for your extra credit?"
"I haven't decided yet" He tells her with a shrug.
"Well, you better do a good job, Jeremy Gilbert" She tells him sternly. He smirks.
"Oh, yeah? What are you gonna do if I do a good job?" Alvina smirks and slowly turns her head towards him.
"I'll make it worth your while" She winks at him.
"Then I'll be sure to get an A" He pecks her forehead.
Once school ended, Jeremy met Alvina out front. Alvina grabbed his hands and practically dragged Jeremy into the forest. Jeremy grins knowing Alvina is excited. She always is when she's about to turn into her fairy.
When they were deep enough, Alvina drops Jeremy's hand. They toss their book bags off to the side and Alvina takes a few steps from Jeremy. Closes her eyes and takes a breath. She can feel nature buzzing around her. It makes her smile.
One second she was standing there and the next she's hovering over the ground, her wings fluttering. The feeling of nature instantly intensifies and she grins.
"Do you wanna know what it's like to fly?" Alvina asks turning to him grinning. Jeremy's eyes widened. She holds her hand out to him.
"What about our bags?" Jeremy asks. Alvina turns her head in a different direction. Within moment a doe walks up to them. Jeremy gasps softly.
"Give them to me" Alvina tells him softly while raising a hand to pet the deer. Jeremy makes slow movements. He gives the the bags and she gives them to the doe. "Take these to Jeremy's house but be careful, don't get caught" Turning around the doe takes off to Jeremy's house. "Do you trust me?"
"With my life" Jeremy told her without hesitation.
"Then take my hand" She holds it out to him again and he grabs it. She pulls him to her, his back to her chest. She holds onto him before lifting him off the ground effortlessly. She uses magic to keep his body pressed against hers allowing her to fly through the forest easier.
"Oh my God, oh my God" Jeremy whispers clinging onto her hands. Alvina giggles and flies even faster. Jeremy wished he could say he kept his man card but in reality, he was yelling and screaming like a new born baby. When they got to his house, or close to his house but still out of the public eye, Alvina sets him down.
"So, how did you like it?" Alvina grins resting her hand on her hips.
"I love you, I really do" Jeremy says taking her face in his hands. "But please keep me on the ground" Alvina giggles and kisses his lips. She steps away from him and returns to her human form.
"It wasn't that bad" She says taking his hand, the two of them walking towards the house.
"Babe, humans aren't meant to fly. If we were, then we would have wings as well" Jeremy tells her. She shrugs and kisses his cheek.
"It gets better the more you do it" She tells him.
"I'll take your word for it" He mumbles making her giggle as well. "Hey look, our backpacks"
"Woodland creatures are very useful" She tells him. He bends down and grabs their bags.
"You're amazing" He tells her. She grins at him and struts to the house dramatically. He smirks, his eyes glued on her hips and ass. She knows where his eyes are so she sways a little more noticeably. He groans feeling more turned on. "She's gonna be the death of me" He mutters before following her.
"There you two are!" Jenna grins as they enter the house. "Are you ready to go to the Grill?"
"Yes!" Alvina skips towards Jenna and claps her hands together. "I almost forgot we were going, come on, Jeremy!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming" Jenna smiles at the two of them. They all climb into Jenna's car and drive to the Grill.
"After we eat, wanna play a game of pool?" Alvina asks as the three of them go towards a booth and take a seat.
"Whatever makes you happy" He says. She smiles and sits close to him. He wraps an arm around her, keeping her as close as possible.
"I like a man who can dine alone" Jenna says. Alvina follows her gaze and notices her and Jeremy's history teacher, Alaric. "A quiet strength."
"I thought you were still in that whole Logan-depression thing" Jeremy says looking back at Jenna.
"I've sworn off men forever, but it doesn't mean I can't observe them from a safe distance" Jenna says smiling dreamily at Alaric.
"I think he's one of the good ones" Alvina tells her. "He's quirky" She winks at her. Jenna laughs while kicking Jeremy under the table. Alvina giggles while Jeremy rolls his eyes.
"I can introduce you" Jeremy suggests. Jenna thinks about it but doesn't respond, simply changes the subject.
"Have you picked a topic yet?" Jenna asks.
"No, not yet. It's gotta be local and non-internet research, so..." Jeremy mutters.
"That's easy! You've got all your dad's stuff" Jenna says.
"What stuff?" Jeremy frowns his eyebrows.
"'How the Gilbert's came over on the Mayflower' stuff" Jenna tells him. "All that family lineage from way back. Your dad really loved all that family history stuff. It's all boxed up in the closet"
"We can take a look at it tomorrow" Alvina smiles at Jeremy. He nods in agreement and pecks her lips softly.
"Mr. Saltzman" Jeremy says as he approaches their table.
"Jeremy. What's up, man?" Alaric grins. "Alvina" She waves at him enthusiastically.
"This is my aunt, Jenna" Jeremy introduces them. They shake hands.
"Alaric Saltzman, it's nice to meet you" Alaric introduces himself.
"Jeremy was just telling me about his paper. Thanks or giving him another chance" Jenna says.
"It was my first day, I wanted to make a good impression." Alaric shrugs nonchalantly.
"Why don't we go play pool?" Alvina mutters to Jeremy. He nods and they both slip out of the booth, trading places with Alaric. Alvina gives Jenna a wink and thumbs up. Jenna grins and tries to hide a blush. "Ready to get your butt whooped?"
"Maybe later but for now lets just focus on pool" Jeremy says winking at her while grabbing some pool sticks. Alvina's jaw drops and she starts giggling. He smirks feeling accomplished.
"You're such a perv" She teases.
"You love it" He winks at her. She rolls her eyes at him and begins to set up the balls.
"Do you think they're getting along?" Alvina asks Jeremy halfway through their game. Jeremy glances at a laughing Jenna and a grinning Alaric.
"I'd say they are" Jeremy nods.
"I hope they get together, I think they'd be cute. He's so much better than that Logan fella" Alvina says bending down to take her shot.
"You barely know him, he could be a psycho killer for all we know" Jeremy shrugs. Alvina glances up at him and winks.
"Nothing like dating a sexy murderer to spice up the relationship" She mutters walking over to him. He hums and presses her against the pool table.
"I'm gonna have to second that" He mumbles his lips brushing against hers.
"Wanna ditch this place?" She whispers, her fingers dancing along his chest.
"You read my mind" He whispers back. She smirks and the two sneak out the back before Jenna can see them. "Why don't we just walk? Take a stroll"
"You just don't wanna fly" Alvina grins linking arms with him.
"Or I wanna spend time with the girl I love under the moonlight" He says looking at her. She raises an eyebrow. "And avoid flying" He mutters. She grins and kisses his cheek. When they arrive at his place and he opens the door they both jump as Caroline and Elena scream at them.
"What the fuck?" Alvina says.
"I'm outta here" Caroline says rushing out. Alvina and Jeremy share a look. Jeremy shrugs and they make their way towards his room.
"I'm kind of hungry for some snacks" Alvina mutters.
"I can be your snack" Jeremy mutters pulling her against his chest. She hums and leans against him.
"Do you have strawberries?" Alvina wonders. Jeremy grins knowing he's not gonna be able to get her mind off of food, despite just having eaten.
"I can go look" He kisses the side of her head before leaving the room. She grins to herself. She twirls around before falling on the bed, bouncing slightly. She then hears the door opening and closing.
"What are you looking for?" Alvina hears Jenna's voice. Alvina grins and races to the top of the steps, listening to their conversation.
"Strawberries" Jeremy answers.
"Bottom shelf" Jenna directs. Alvina does a little celebratory dance, happy that they have strawberries.
"Oh, hey, look at what I found" Jeremy said showing her something.
"Me and Logan?" Jenna scoffs. Alvina rolls her eyes wondering why Jeremy would show her anything that had to do with Logan Scumfell. "That's just cruel"
"Cruel is dating my history teacher" Jeremy teases closing the fridge door with strawberries in hand.
"I'm not dating him... yet" Jenna smirks.
"You go Jenna! You get your man!" Alvina cheers from the top of the steps. She hears Jenna laughing in the kitchen. "I ship it!"
"Come on, Vina" Jeremy says jogging up the steps with the strawberries. "I know a few ways we can use these" He wiggles his eyebrows. Alvina grins and follows him back into the room.
