*Chapter Forty Six* {The Last Dance}
"Good morning, Alvina," Elijah greets, as she climbs out of Damon's car with Jeremy.
"Elijah," Alvina nods, back while reaching her hand out for Jeremy. He walks to her side and interlaces their fingers. "What can I do for you?" She asks.
"I was hoping to have a moment of your time," Elijah explains, vaguely. "There are... some things I wish to discuss with you... In private," He adds toward the end, his eyes flickering to Jeremy. Jeremy glances to Alvina who gives him a small smile.
"Well, I'll be at school," Jeremy mutters, kissing Alvina's cheek. Alvina squeezes his hand before reluctantly releasing it.
"Fancy a drive?" She motions to Damon's car. Elijah arches an eyebrow but goes to the passenger side nonetheless. "What's up, Suits?" Elijah glances at her before he begins to talk.
"I wanted to thank you for helping Bonnie find me," He says, Alvina driving out of the parking lot and to a more private area. "I'm sure you understand what that means to us,"
"I understand more," She corrects him. Finding your soulmate is one thing but being bonded to that mate is entirely different. It's like transitioning into a vampire. The feelings you have when you first meet and get to know them are there but nowhere near the magnitude of what they are when the bond is completed.
Perhaps it's a good thing they're not completely bonded because if they were Damon (and most likely Elena, not that Alvina necessarily cares) would be dead for separating them. Alvina could try to protect him all she wants but she doubts she'd be able to stop Elijah without starting a deadly war.
"As polite as you seem to be I know you didn't just take me from Jeremy to simply say thank you," Alvina says, pulling off to a park. It's not a very popular park, especially during school/work hours. The two climb out of the car and head for a bench. "What is it, Elijah?"
"I have reasoning to believe that Niklaus is in town," Elijah states, right off the bat. Alvina tenses but doesn't say anything. "I understand he is your mate but he has some transgressions towards the family he has to answer to," He adds, cautiously. Her posture shifts subtly from nervous to threatening.
"I've already told you the consequences of his death," Alvina replies, stiffly.
"Yes, you've also painted a very clear picture to my little witch," Elijah adds. Alvina smirks with a small shrug. "She believes she has found a way to tell me if he is innocent or not. If he is, then I'll leave him to you but if he is not then I will rip his heart out and deal with you afterwards,"
"People have been dealing with me for decades, the only one who's managed to survive is Damon. You seem smarter than him but I won't be giving you the leniency I give him on a daily basis," Alvina warns him.
"As I said, if I must then I will deal with you," Elijah tells her.
"Elijah, if you kill Klaus, you will start a war," She warns him. "One that will cost you everything," She states knowing exactly who she's threatening. Elijah bites back a growl but Alvina notices his jaw clenching.
"The lets hope for our sake, he's innocent," Elijah says. Alvina hums, narrowing her eyes at him.
"Anything else you wish to discuss with me?" Alvina asks, forcing her fists to unclench.
"I would also like to inform you that Elena will be taking an elixir before the ritual to ensure her survival, I'm sure Jeremy would like to know that," Most of the tension leaves Alvina's body. "It's a potion I had made up for Katerina but it will serve the same purpose for Elena,"
"And you're sure it'll work? There's no like, expiration date or some shit on that?" Alvina questions.
"It will work," He promises.
"Thank God," Alvina whispers, relived she doesn't have to explain to Jeremy that he's lost yet another family member, and on top of that, to his future soulmate. "Do you know where Klaus is, right now?" She asks him.
"No, but I believe he is somewhere in town. The full moon is in two days, that is when the ritual will take place," He tells her. "Should you find him before then do not mention the elixir nor that I am in town nor the fact that Bonnie is the one that is bound to me," Alvina nods, agreeing to his terms.
"Anything else?" She asks.
"No, should you need me, Bonnie will know how to find me," He says standing him. "I hope this works out as bloodless as possible,"
"Well, for once I actually hope the less violent option plays out," Alvina grins, sarcastically. Elijah gives her a nod before walking towards the forest. "Fucking hell," Alvina grumbles, quickly making her way to the car. She pulls her phone out and calls Damon.
"Damon the great speaking," He answers. Alvina could hear the smirk in his voice. A smirk of her own comes to her lips.
"Oops, wrong number," She hangs up and calls Stefan.
"Alvina?" He answers. She could hear the sly grin on his face.
"Hey, is Damon the moron with you?" She asks. Stefan chuckles as Damon complains beside him.
"Yeah," Stefan clears his throat. "He, Bonnie, Elena, and Enzo are here."
"Where's Jeremy?" Alvina asks, turning the car around heading toward the Boarding house.
"Still at school," Stefan explains. "Where are you?"
"On my way to the school," Alvina explained. "I'm going to get Jeremy and meet up with you. Tell Enzo to meet me there," Alvina tells him before hanging up without another word.
By the time she gets to the school Enzo is waiting for her by the front door. He arches an eyebrow when she approaches him. She simply takes his outstretched hand and leads him into the school.
"Jeremy, baby, wanna skip the rest of school and come hang out with the cool kids?" Alvina ask. Enzo grins, wrapping an arm around her waist while kissing the top of her head.
"I've always wanted to be a cool kid," Jeremy replies. A moment later he's walking out of the classroom, down the empty hallway, around the corner and towards his mates. "What's going on?"
"Come on, I'll explain in the car," Alvina says, her eyes flickering to Enzo as he leaves her side in favor to hold Jeremy. She smiles at the pair of them and leads them out of the school. None of them paying attention to the spying eye watching them.
"So, what did Elijah want?" Jeremy questions.
"You spoke with Elijah?" Enzo ask.
"I just got done talking to him," Alvina explains. "He told me Klaus is in town,"
"He's here?" Jeremy asks, his eyes widening slightly. Alvina reaches over to grab his hand. He grips it tightly as fearful thoughts race through his mind.
"He needs a full moon to do the ritual which is in a couple of days," Alvina continues, cautiously not wanting to overwhelm him. Jeremy leans back in his seat, his heart rate giving away the rising level of anxiety inside of him.
"Bonnie mentioned something about an elixir for Elena," Enzo brings up hoping to soothe Jeremy.
"Elijah told me the same," Alvina adds. Jeremy turns and gives them both a look waiting for a further explanation. "It's a potion of sorts. It's sole purpose is to keep Elena alive during the ritual," She giving his hand a gentle squeeze.
"So, Elena's going to be alright?" Jeremy asks, softly. Alvina glances at him with a soft smile.
"She's going to be fine, baby," Alvina promises. Jeremy slouches in his seat looking as if the weight of the world had just been lifted off of his shoulders. Alvina thinks briefly about how Elena could live a thousand life times and never deserve Jeremy as a brother.
"Do you know where Klaus is?" Enzo asks. Alvina shakes her head.
"No, he could be anywhere but he's in town" She informs him before glancing back at Jeremy. "We have to keep the elixir to ourselves. If Klaus gets wind of it then he'll take measures to make sure she doesn't drink it," Alvina explains. "He can't know she's going to live," Jeremy nods agreeing with her as she pulls up in front of the house.
The three of them get out of the car and head inside. There they find Damon, Elena, Stefan and Bonnie in the parlor room. Alvina smirks at the pout forming on Damon's lips but doesn't comment.
"Klaus compelled a girl to approach Elena," Bonnie explains to them. "He's going to be at the dance,"
"Are our school dances hexed or jinxed or some shit?" Jeremy mutters rhetorically.
"So, we find him at the dance," Alvina speaks up. "Try and figure out his plan of action,"
"And how do you suggest we do that if we don't even know what he looks like?" Stefan asks, crossing his arms.
"Enzo and I will be able to sense him," Alvina assures him. She figure Jeremy wouldn't be able to do so seeing as he's human and couldn't sense her nor Enzo.
"How?" Elena presses.
"With my pixie dust," Alvina comments sarcastically. "Don't worry about it, we'll be able to sense him,"
"Is there something that I don't know?" Elena asks, refusing to drop it.
"Did you know the longest time between two twins being born is 87 days?" Alvina asks her. Elena frowns her eyebrows looking genuinely confused. "Oh, you didn't? Then yes, there are things you don't know," She sasses.
"Can you try and take this seriously?" Elena asks her.
"I mean, I can try," Alvina shrugs. "But it's not like it's my neck on the chopping block,"
"Vina," Jeremy whines, giving her a pleading look. Normally he would love her banter but with tensions a little high Jeremy just wanted to get this shit over with.
"You're just going to have to trust us," Alvina tells her. "We'll find Klaus and make sure you're still breathing by the end of the full moon,"
"Why should I trust you?" Elena asks. "You don't even like me,"
"I tried to be your friend, Elena," Alvina snips. "You're the one who pushed me away and wouldn't give me a chance. But it doesn't matter anymore. I'm not doing this for you. You die, Jeremy gets upset. I'll burn the world to the ground before I allow that to happen,"
"Elena, please, just trust them," Jeremy pleads. "We're doing all we can to keep you safe but you have to trust us," Elena's face softens as she looks at her brothers pleading gaze.
"You're right, I'm sorry," Elena apologizes. Alvina smirks a bit smugly but doesn't comment.
"Look, we need to keep Elena away from him," Enzo says, his arms crossed with his sexy 'I'm-in-business-mode' look on his face. "The last thing we need is for him to take her early and us not be able to get the elixir to her on time,"
"Assuming that it works," Damon pipes up. "It's like a couple centuries old, who knows if it has some juice left?" He shrugs.
"Elijah said it'll work, so it will work," Bonnie says confidently.
"Ugh, you soulmates are becoming a pain in my ass," Damon groans, rubbing his face. A knock on the door announces Alaric's entrance. The moment he steps into the parlor Alvina and Enzo know he's not who he seems to be.
"Don't say anything," Alvina quickly tells Enzo privately, excluding Jeremy from their chat. Enzo glances at her but keeps quiet. They both look at Alaric as his eyes dance from her to him to Jeremy. Alvina instinctively moves closer to Jeremy knowing it was unlikely for him to try anything, especially right now but wanting to make it clear that he's protected.
"There you are," Damon greets.
"Sorry I'm late," He mentions, only glancing at Damon before looking back at the trio.
"Hey, I need you to put me down as a chaperone at the dance tonight. Klaus made his first move," Damon explains.
"Ok, so you and Enzo somehow point Klaus out of the crowd, what then? Just ask him his to-do list?" Elena asks.
"Pretty much," Alvina nods, glancing to her. "We can't prepare for what he's planning on doing without actually knowing what he's going to do,"
"And he's just going to spill his guts to you?" Elena asks, raising an eyebrow. Alvina looks back at Alaric knowing exactly who she's making eye contact with.
"I can be very-" Alvina smirks mischievously, "-persuasive,"
Alaric matches her grin accepting the challenge.
