*Chapter Forty Five*

Bonnie nibbles on her lower lip as she shuffles around the kitchen. She opens and closes the fridge a couple of times too lost in her thoughts to focus on the sandwich she's attempting to make. Her thoughts centered around the man freshening up in her bathroom and the fact that his brother is her friends mate yet also wants to kill her best friend but they can't kill him to keep said best friend alive.

She promised Alvina she would find a way to keep Klaus alive, Bonnie plans on sticking to that promise. However, that doesn't change her end goal of keeping Elena safe and alive. How she was going to accomplish a task that seems impossible is beyond her.

She had been so lost in her racing thoughts that she didn't even notice her guest standing in the threshold of the kitchen. His hands are tucked into his pockets, a light smile on his lips as he observes her repetitive movements. It isn't until he clears his throat does she break from concentration.

"Oh, uh... Hi," Bonnie smile, spinning towards him. She rocks back and forth on her feet, her hands fidgeting in front of her. "You look better," She tells him, trying not to be too obvious about the fact that she is checking him out.

"Thank you," He replies, slowly moving into the kitchen. "You look beautiful," He compliments. She tries to bite back the smile but it doesn't really work. "What's happened since I was daggered?" He questions her, keeping a respectable distance.

It didn't matter that he wanted to be so close that there would be no space between them. It didn't matter that he desired to run his hands over her body. All that mattered was what she was comfortable with and the last time they had been together she was more than reluctant to even walk beside him.

"Uh, a couple of things happened," Bonnie mentions, finding herself wanting to close the distance but also knowing that being away from him help keep her head clear. "Jonas and Luka are dead," She blurts, wincing at how insensitive she had been.

"Well, that's unfortunate," Elijah mutters, not exactly bothered by their death.

"Damon killed Luka when he tried to rescue you and Katherine killed Jonas when he tried to kill Elena. Katherine was impersonating her at the time," Bonnie further explains, her anxiety slowly climbing.

"Did he harm you for undaggering me?" Elijah asks, tensing the slightest bit. Bonnie shakes her head, smiling when she sees the tenseness in his shoulders disappear.

"Alvina helped me," Bonnie tells him. Elijah raises an eyebrow and Bonnie nods. "I wanted you back," She admits causing Elijah to smile. Bonnie takes a deep breath before continuing. "I didn't know how to get you, I didn't know where you were so I asked for her help. She brought me to you,"

"Not without a price, I assume," Bonnie's smile turns a bit sheepish.

"She did mention something about keeping Klaus alive,"

"Ah, yes, she mentioned that to me when I told her about him," Elijah remembers.

"If you kill Klaus, she's going to retaliate," Bonnie warns him. "And not just her, Enzo will be right beside her,"

"Bonnie, I cannot just let him walk away unscathed," Elijah tells her. "What he's done..." He sighs, taking a seat at the table by the window. Bonnie crosses the floor and sits next to him.

"Talk to me," Bonnie pleads with him, her hand reaching for his. She freezes her actions and looks into his eyes not knowing if it was alright to touch him. He leans forward and takes her hands in his silencing her worries. She smiles, giving his hands a comforting squeeze. "I need to know the truth, Elijah, about everything,"

"That will talk a long time," Elijah tells her, a sly grin on his lips. "There's a lot to go over," Bonnie can't help but to smile back.

"And I want to hear about everything but how about we start with the fact that you are planning on letting Elena go through with the sacrifice when you told us you would help save her," Bonnie mentions. "As a start," Elijah breathes out a small laugh before lifting one of her hands to his lips, gently kissing her knuckles before telling her his plan that he had failed to mention before his daggering.

"When Katherine was human, I wished to spare her from death from the ritual. I had an elixir made that would have restored her life after the ritual. Before I had a chance to tell her, Katherine turned herself and ran," Elijah explains. Bonnie forces herself to listen while trying to ignore the hammering of her heart that had started when he kissed her hand. "I plan on giving Elena the elixir, allowing her to life through the sacrifice,"

Bonnie breathes out a sigh of relief. She had hoped Elijah had a plan up his sleeve. She knew he wouldn't just promise to save Elena only to turn his back on them.

"Why do you want to kill Klaus so badly?" Bonnie wonders.

"My family are the original vampires," Elijah begins to explain. "From us all vampires were created. We have different abilities and we're not as vulnerable as the others. The dagger that Damon possessed is a way to neutralize us. My brother has a habit of neutralizing our family,"

"He daggers his own siblings?" Bonnie whispers.

"If they bring too much attention to the family, if they upset him, or if they threaten to leave, he will dagger them to keep them close," Elijah tells her. He then glances away from her, his hands withdrawing from hers as he confesses to helping dagger his siblings from time to time. Bonnie stays quiet for a few moments before asking her next question.

"What does he do with the bodies?"

"He keeps them in coffins," Elijah answers, his eyes returning to hers. "He stores them and moves them wherever he goes,'

"Well, that's a little cliché," Bonnie mutters. Elijah smiles a bit. "Did he dagger your favorite sibling or something? Why do you want to kill him?"

"Niklaus and I got into an argument. During this argument he confessed to dumping their bodies into the ocean where they are forever lost," Elijah says.

"Wait, you told me that he daggers his siblings to keep them close, right?" Bonnie asks. Elijah nods. "If he's obsessed with keeping his family close, why would he throw them in the ocean?"

"Niklaus does many questionable things," Elijah tells her. "You will go insane trying to understand why he does the things he does,"

"It just doesn't make sense to me," Bonnie sighs, leaning back in her seat. "I know he's your brother and you know him better but it still doesn't make sense,"

"The only thing that makes sense about this family is that nothing makes sense," Elijah tells her. Bonnie gives him a look but smiles. "I wish I could give you answers but I don't have them,"

"What if he was lying?" Bonnie asks. "You said you two were arguing. Well, telling you he threw them in the ocean would be a great way to piss you off during an argument,"

"He wasn't lying," Elijah shakes his head.

"Are you sure?" Bonnie asks. Elijah hesitates. It's enough for a plan to form in Bonnie's head. "Say he didn't throw them in the ocean and that he's lying. If we can prove that theory is right then you don't have to kill him. Elena will be alive, Klaus will be alive and Alvina won't drag Enzo into a murder spree," Bonnie says, standing up.

"I know my brother, he isn't just going to confess that he lied... If he even did in the first place," Elijah tells her.

"Then we make him tell the truth," Bonnie says, as if it were as simple as breathing.

"My brother is one of the most stubborn men in the world, you can't simply make him do anything,"

"Well... Then I can read his mind," Bonnie mutters, abruptly leaving the kitchen. Elijah frowns his eyebrows before standing up to follow her. "I remember seeing a spell in my grandmother's grimoire about reading minds,"

"Even if you had a spell that could do that, Klaus's mind if very strong. He won't just let you in," Elijah warns her.

"Then we get him when he's at his weakest," She tells him, pulling the grimoire out of her dresser drawer. Elijah pauses at the door to her bedroom.

"You want to read his mind after the ritual?" Elijah questions.

"He'll be at his weakest when he finishes drinking from Elena. He'll be shifting, I'll be able to get in then," She tells him.

"That's also the only time I'll be able to kill him," Elijah reminds her.

"I'll be quick," She promises, shrugging her shoulders a bit. Elijah smiles at her, his eyes one step away from forming hearts. "Here it is... Dic mihi hva du vet," Bonnie slowly says. She repeats it a few times as Elijah walks to her side.

"No," Elijah shakes his head.

"What?" Bonnie asks, looking up at him.

"You have to be close enough to touch him, you're not getting that close to him," Elijah shakes his head. "Even at his weakest, Niklaus is still one of the deadliest creatures on Earth," He tells her. "I won't risk your life for Alvina," Elijah shakes his head.

"I told Alvina that I would help her keep Klaus alive," Bonnie says. "If I don't try, a lot more people are going to die. This is the way to the least amount of bloodshed," She tells him.

"No," Elijah states.

"I'll practice the spell, I'll get good at it. I'll get fast. I won't be in his head for long. I'll just need a couple of seconds and if he really did throw them in the ocean then you can have him but if he didn't then please keep him alive," Bonnie begs. Elijah stares into her eyes trying to tell himself not to give in before doing just that.

"If he hurts you, whether he's tossed my siblings in the ocean or not, I will kill him," Elijah promises her. Bonnie sighs but slowly nods.

"Deal," She gives him a smile. "Thank you," Elijah sighs before slowly lifting his hand. Her heart flutters in her chest as the backs of his fingers brush against her cheek as he goes to tuck some of her hair behind her ear.

"You don't have to thank me, little witch," Bonnie gently nuzzles into the palm of his hand. "Although, I should be thanking you for finding me and undaggering me," He mutters.

"No problem," She smiles. "You're growing on me, I want to keep you around," Elijah risks another step closer to her.

"I'll stay for as long as you want me," He whispers, raising his other hand to the other side of her face. He smiles when her hands cover his. He closes his eyes and presses his lips on her forehead tenderly. He wanted to kiss her, he truly did, but the last thing he wants is to move to fast and have her pull away from him.

"I'm sorry for being so... distant at first," Bonnie whispers, staring into his eyes. "I didn't know how this would work or if I could trust you,"

"You can trust me," Elijah promises. "I will prove to you that you can. I am solely on your side, Bonnie. If you need anything, I will do everything in my power to get it for you," Bonnie smiles, slowly winding her arms around his waist. He happily pulls her to his chest, his head naturally resting atop of hers. "We'll make this work," He assures her.

Bonnie sighs, a small blissful smile on her face as she tightens her hold around him.

*Sorry, no Alvina, Enzo, or Jeremy in this one but I hope you enjoyed it! If you're the type that doesn't really like chapters about side couples (Even though this chapter was necessary for plot) then the next chapter should make it up to you cause... someone's making an appearance...*
