Part 2
After a moments rest my brother pushes himself away from me, slowly standing up and wiping away his tears. "I-I... can do it!" He fists his hands while holding his head up high.
Smiling slightly I pat his mop of black hair. "I know you can do it!" With small words of encouragement, he takes a couple of steps away from me while taking a few deep breaths.
Once he was a good distance away he looks back at me his gaze wavers. I know he doesn't want to disappoint and on any normal circumstances, I wouldn't ask him to do something he's uncomfortable with. Unfortunately, we do not have time to look around and being unfamiliar with this land does not help our situation.
Once he relaxes his body and mind I feel the energy pour out of him in small waves. The feeling is so family it begins to coat me in a blanket of warmth and comfort. I always wished to know what his gift felt like. Mother always said it was like connecting with every living thing, connecting yourself not only to nature but the wind and earth as well. With multiple uses to either heal or track an enemy, this connection to nature became a very sought after gift.
I closed my eyes the feeling calming every muscle until it engulfed my whole being. I always admired my mother's and brother's gift. While they gave to nature, my gift takes away. It relies on the energy nature provides around me to thrive. Without that energy my gift is weak, but so long as the wind is blowing I can borrow that energy and return it full force.
When my parents first discovered my abilities they attempted to hide it from the rest of our clan, but me being such a young child did not understand why. Until one day I used my gift to defend my self from being bullied by the other clan children and almost took the life force of my own friends. Since that day I was banned from practicing my gift for fear of draining someone's life. Once my rebellious years started I traveled a good distance away from the village to practice amongst the cover of the forest. It takes a lot of focus to take energy from non-living things.
Knowing they could not stop me from practicing, my parents decided to support me and even helped me discover new ways to use my gift. Of course, I knew it was because they wanted to make sure I knew how to control my gift because without control chaos reigns supreme.
The thought of my parents causes anxiety to well up inside me. I don't even know where they are or if they were even to get out okay. Where are they looking for us? Would they ever find us? I don't think so...
Not even a second later, I was pulled back into reality as the warm blanket was replaced by the cold winds of nature. Shivering I wrap my arms around myself as my brother runs up to me fear evident on his face. "I found a place a few miles from here, it looks pretty scary, but it's empty. "
I nod my head pulling him into a hug, I was so proud of him. "You did such a good job! Would you like to rest a moment before we go?"
He shakes his head no and pulls away from me. "There is no time!" He grabs my hand with his smaller ones, attempting to pull me up from the ground. Frustrated that I have not moved he releases me then huffs. "Its almost sunset and the creepy crawlies are close by I can feel them trying to find us."
And that thought alone was enough to snap me back into survival mode. With new found adrenaline. I pick my brother up in my arms and begin walking. "Why didn't you say so sooner. Where is this place you found?" He weakly lays his head on my shoulder then points in the direction of a dark path. Great~! I can tell he is absolutely exhausted. The way his body just slumped against mine. The effects of his gift might be weighting down on him. Following my brother's directions, we flow through a dark forest avoiding any wild life we come across.
Attempting to get to the hideout before sunset, I switch my brother onto my back. Wrapping himself around my neck and torso. Once he was secure I take off running. I don't have the greatest stamina so I have to pace myself, often slowing down into a light jog or some speed walking. It wasn't too long afterwards that I saw the shadow of an enormous castle. It loomed over all, even higher than the surrounding mountains. Taking a glance behind the ominous castle I notice one small detail. The sun was setting and fast. There was still a great distance between us and the castle.
So without a second thought, I hauled ass!
Running slightly down hill and dodging numerous trees and rocks. My brother tightens his grip around my neck causing me to lose focus at the wrong moment. Next thing I know my foot collides with a jagged rock causing my brother and I to tumble down the rest of the hill. Hitting almost ever rock in sight. Not even a second later we hit the bottom with a loud painful oomph. I look over at my little brother who landed on his back right beside me. We both have cuts and bruises littering out bodies.
Just as I take a moment to breath I hear slight movement coming from a dark part of the forest.
