Chapter 30
Third Person
Unable to hold the damage to his weak body, Gerald too laid still on the ground, blinking his now grey eyes as he looks up to the sky. But nobody knew what was in his devilish mind or if he was in any position to do more harm. So, the warriors stood guard.
Aries' wolf slowly takes the two steps to be beside Althea's weak body. He whines as he takes a look at Althea's body covered in blood, both hers and Alex'. Fresh blood kept seeping through her wounds that didn't seem to be stopping anytime soon.
He licks the blood from her cheek where Gerald's claw had cut her. Althea's eyes flutter close as she feels his warm tongue brush across her cheek. Her face tingles softly at that and a small smile forms on her face.
Slowly, Aries shifts back into his human. He was stark naked, his wounds already healing, only leaving patches of blood around. He didn't care about his nudity as he sat on his knees and bent down to pick Althea's tiny body in his arms. He placed her head on his chest, just a little below his shoulder.
"Someone, call James." His voice boomed the now silent field.
James hurriedly makes his way forward to his Alpha as he takes a look at the human who he now knew as his Luna. When he gets closer, a gasp of his own escapes as he now had a full view on her. He saw the bandages on her previous wounds had either been ripped or soaked in more blood, and her body had more fresh wounds.
But what worried him was that her wounds from a week before had not been healed yet. He had failed to notice it before as human do heal slower than werewolf, but her body was not healing at all.
Still he bends down and puts his first aid kit on the ground beside him as he takes out clean cloth and disinfectant to put on her open wounds. This was the least he could do now.
"Take me to her." Evelyn whispers weakly as she looks at Althea from her mate's arms, getting a clear view of her from up there. Matt nods his head and starts walking towards them.
He gently puts her on the ground, so she was in front of Aries who had Althea in his arms. At this point, James stands up and moves back to give them space and also to check upon Alex.
Unfortunately, the damage to his heart was far too great and he had no pulse to indicate any life left in him, so he declares him dead.
The world had lost a selfless Alpha. One that always followed the goddess bidding. Even in death.
Matt kneels down on one leg as his hands support Evelyn's weak body. She reaches out a hand to touch Althea's arms. A soft glow forms on her touch and she prays to the goddess to make her spells work. She begs her.
Just this once.
But all her efforts fail as she gasps and leans back on Matt, now drained of her energy. "I can't heal her body." She whispers as a tear slides down her face.
She breaths shakily as she looks at Althea's face. Her blue eyes that was now looking at her. "I told you... I asked you not to get yourself hurt. I warned you Althea..."
"What are you talking about love?" Matt asks softly as he rubs her shoulder ever so slightly while still supporting her body.
Evelyn's eyes still hold Althea's. "I'm sorry Althea. I cannot keep our promise. If-if there's no you-" A low grumble comes from Aries as he slightly tightens his hold on Althea.
"Althea- her body is rotting. She can't be healed once she's wounded." Evelyn finally declares as she looks up to Aries' now dark eyes who growled threateningly at her. But she holds her ground. He needed to know.
Matt's arms come across her chest in a defending manner but a slight touch from Evelyn makes him relax.
"I think she made some kind of deal with the goddess to be here. Her time seems to be running out." She said more clear but Aries only growls louder, pulling Althea's small body even closer to his chest as he too leans down to place his face on her neck, closing his eyes, breathing her in.
"I'm sorry..." Evelyn's whisper reaches him, and he immediately growls out.
"No." He whispers back.
Aries pulls back to look at Althea's eyes which was now struggling to keep themselves open. "Please- please don't leave me like her."
Vivid images flashes over Althea's eyes as she tries to stay awake. But she couldn't separate between the reality and the scenes that played over her head. She saw her again.
The goddess with the silver hair. Althea turned her head ever so slightly to see the goddess hovering over the vacant ground which once held the bed of roses.
A silver globe of light surrounds the goddess as she floats in the air, her body wrapped in a soft silky white dress that flowed around her. When she opened her eyes, Althea saw those silver orbs of the goddess once again.
A sad smile forms on her heavenly face as a blood red tear falls down her eye. Althea forces her eyes open as she refused to miss this.
The painful story behind the blood red roses that she was now living through. She watched the goddess as she bled the endless pool of blood from her eyes that eventually hit the empty land, which then bloomed with the roses.
Dark. Red. Painful.
A tear of her own falls down her temples as she watched her. As she too felt her pain. Like it was her own. The body of the goddess then shines brighter until it eventually bursts into million pieces of sparkles, but her words echoes behind for Althea's ears to listen.
"May love find you once more."
Many thoughts take over her mind as she tries to figure out the words of the goddess. But the one question that hovered over and over was, who was it meant for?
The words of blessing she spoke of.
Then her eyes falls on the ground below, to the garden of roses, where a man sat with his body crouched as he held onto something. His back facing Althea, but she would know that back anywhere. She had seen it and longed it for time now.
It was Aries...
He lets out a painful howl as he turns up to face the sky. Soon his body too disappears from her view and she was now back to the present. A shocked gasp left her lips, but she was unable to utter words. Her vocal cord had been completely crushed by the monster.
She turns her head back as she blinks her eyes a couple of times to clear the tears, but it still flowed down. Althea noticed how he sat in a similar manner but now holding onto her, by the roses. His dark eyes filled with anger and pain.
A desperation.
He held onto her tight, but she couldn't even feel his touch anymore, just a slight zap here and there. She knew her body was failing her. This time, no one could save her. Not even Aries.
She watched him as he pulled one of his hand from her body and put it on her face, lightly cupping her. A tear of his own fell on Althea's eyes which made her close her eyes shut as she entered another world but not before his voice followed her ears.
"I need you."
She was now in a lush green field surrounded with tulips all across. In the middle sat a pond where the goddess herself sat. As if she felt my presence, she looked up to me and stood up gracefully. A sad smile plastered on her face.
"Seems like our time's up." She says as the other dark goddess steps from behind her as if she had been there all along. The one with the long midnight hair. Her face equally painted with the same sad smile. Althea had no doubt that they were but one.
"We all loved him equally." The dark goddess speaks. Her voice melodious and sad, an exact copy of the other goddess. "We still do. But I guess he just wasn't meant to be ours."
"Mother gave us just enough time until our body starts deteriorating. He was supposed to love you, another part of me, but I guess his heart is still very much attached to the me from before." The dark goddess smiles sadly as Althea watched her confused.
"I-I don't understand what you are trying to say." Althea was surprised that she could talk now. Her hands come up to feel her neck only to find it clear of any bandages or wounds. She looks down at her body to find she was wearing an attire similar or even same as the goddesses in front of her.
"It's time you know. It's time you remember for your time on earth has come to an end like mine once did." The dark goddess whispers as she moves towards the other goddess who was holding her hand out for her. She places it on top of hers and they both look at Althea. The goddess holds out her other hand to Althea.
Like a magnet, her body got pulled towards the goddesses. Her own hand raises and places it on top of hers. A bright light engulfs them all, making a soft gasp escape her lips. Images start floating around her as she too floats in the air.
She sees flashes of her life as Althea. The female Alpha.
The proud, strong female. The life she led on earth. The heartbreak she went through. Then she sees herself as the goddess she was. The deal she made with her mother for a chance to return back to the land where he was. She watched it all.
Tears flowed down continuously as she remembered everything. She once again closed her eyes as she relieved her life as the human. Now she understood why Noah had recognised her. She was the one who got his soul back. She was his saviour. She was the one who gave him his life back.
When she finally opened her eyes, she was back on the field, right beside the pond where the goddesses once stood. But this time it was only her in there.
She somehow felt different. Like she was finally back in her own body. She walked closer to the pond and looked down at her reflection on the water. She truly was back in her own body.
She was Althea, the goddess herself.
