Chapter 25

Althea Garcia Hela Silvermoon

Evelyn redresses my bandages as I didn't want to return to the cage that I had just been freed from. She left me for a while before she returned with Matt hot on her trail. I have been noticing it for a while now, whenever Matt is around, Evelyn grows rigid. She looks anywhere and everywhere but him. However, his eyes are always on her, openly gawking at her.

And she refused to leave my side once she found out that I was conscious again. I know that she's hiding something. But I guess I'll have to wait.

That night I had dinner with everyone. He didn't join us though. He never does. I haven't seen him since that night. I lay on my bed with Evenly who's soundly deep in sleep now. But I cannot fall asleep. All I think about his eyes. Those blue eyes filled with so much pain. Those eyes that looked at me with so much want. But he always holds back.

Was I imagining this? Did he feel things for me like my own heart did for him? All these questions eventually drown me deep into sleep only to face the imaginary man of my dream. And once again the chase begins.

He keeps running into the shadow where I'm unable to see him. "Wait. Please don't run away from me." I beg him but it's no use. No matter how hard I try or how fast I run, I can never reach him.

"Please..."

I'm jolted awake by the violent shake of my arm. My breathing ragged as if I was running a race, my forehead sweaty but my body was cold, and I was shaking. As the seconds passed, I felt even more chills creep into my skin.

Then I felt a warm hand touch my shoulder. I slowly turned around to meet Evelyn's worried green eyes. "Are you okay?"

I nod my head at her, giving her a small smile, but my body was still shaking. She takes both my hands on hers and closes her eyes. I see her palms light up and start to panic but when I felt the warmth radiating from it, my body stops shaking. I was calm again. Closing my eyes, I sighed and relaxed my tense shoulder.

When I finally re-opened my eyes, Evelyn was already looking at me with her brow slightly furrowed. The glow from her hand dimly lighted the still dark room. It didn't seem like I had been asleep for long.

"Althea, What's wrong with you?" Evelyn asked.

I cleared my throat before I managed to stutter out a word, "D-dream."

"I know that much but you- you were glowing. Y-you were... your body was floating, Althea." She looked at me like I had grown horns. I shake my head thinking she was joking but she doesn't laugh.

My own brows furrow as I look at her. "W-what do y-you m-mean?" The more I talked, the better I seem to get.

"Althea, there- there's something that I need to tell you. I'm sorry I told them before I talked with you. But I swear I didn't tell them everything though." She looks down at our hands before her eyes flicker between my eyes. I tilt my head sideways and look at her confused.

"Althea, I-I think there's something w-wrong with your body." I further squint my eyes at her. Of course, something's wrong with my body, I have no memory left. I got one hand off her hold and pointed it to my forehead.

"M-memory."

But she just shakes her head. "No, Althea. It's more than that." She sighs. "When I first met you, you were badly hurt. I thought that the goddess sent you to me so I could help you. I tried to use spells to heal your body but- but it didn't work on you. Nothing works on you. My spells."

"What?" I interrupt her.

"Listen to me Althea. I have healed every being before, including humans. I don't like to say this myself but I'm quite good at spells but for reasons my spells don't work on you at all." I shake my head at her in disbelief, but she continues.

"Hear me out." She tugs my heart to gain my attention back. "Getting a memory back is an easy thing for a witch like me, okay." She looks deep in my eyes.

"I'm sorry but I tried it on you." My mouth opens and closes but nothing comes out. "I'm sorry but I wasn't able to retrieve anything regardless." She looks down guilty.

"It's as vacant as you know." Then she looks at me with surety. "It's like you were born with an empty mind."

Then she laughs slightly. "But that's not possible, right? I mean everyone that's alive must have gone through life and had moments of their life locked deep in their subconscious right? There's no way yours so... empty."

"Althea. I didn't even get a glimpse of your childhood. All I got is whatever you already know since you opened your eyes in this place."

I sat frozen shocked as I look at Evelyn's eyes. I knew she wasn't lying. She had no reasons to. My lips started to tremble, and I bite it hard to stop myself. I tasted the warm metallic liquid as it hits my tongue.

Now what?

"I'm sorry Althea. I couldn't help you." Evelyn says sadly as she looks down.

Then something clicked on my mind. "Dreams?" My voice is now clear. "What about dreams? C-can you find out m-more?" I looked at her with so much hope when she looks up with a slight smile and nods a little.

"What would you like to know?" she asked.

"I-I see these- these people in my dream b-but I don't see...I don't know them. I want to k-know more. E-Eve help me, p-please." I plead her, desperate to know more about them. About myself.

"Were you dreaming about them right now?" I nod my head, "Only o-one of them."

She nods her head as she lets go of my hand now, only to place them both on my temples. She closes her eyes shut. "Can you think of them, your dream, those people?"

I too close my eyes as I think of the man. Once again, he stands in the shadow but this time I'm not alone. Evelyn is standing beside me, looking at him too. She takes two steps towards him and halts as she squints her eyes to see him better.

"Why do I feel like I have seen him before?" She whispers out. I step forward to stand beside her, my eyes never leaving his figure.

"Who are you?" I say it out loud, but he just stands there like always. Evelyn raises her hand out to the front and a bright light shines above him to show his black outfit that hugged his huge body. However, he had already turned around, only his back was facing us.

I take a step forward, then another, until I was running towards his. I know this back. I know this man. This back that I have always looked at.

The first time, in the infirmary when I first opened my eyes. Then the woods. A few nights ago in the infirmary again. It was him. This was the same man. The one with the sad blue eyes. The man behind the painful howls.

At this moment as I chase him, my heart starts hammering in my chest. All I see in front of me, is him. But when I think I was close enough to reach out to him, he vanishes into a thin smoke. And I'm left gasping for air.

Suddenly the scenario changes and bright light surrounds the vacant darkness. I squint my eyes and blink them a couple times to adjust to the light. When I stand upright to look ahead of me. I see the same two figures of the two most beautiful women. The dark queen and the silver goddess.

"Who are you?"
