Chapter 19

Althea Garcia Hela Silvermoon

Pain. Immense pain.

That's what I woke up to. My whole body screamed in pain. With great difficulty, I opened my eyes to look at the wooden roof.

I blinked my eyes several times to remember what had happened. How I ended up here. I leaned on my elbow and slowly raised myself up. I looked around me. I was lying on a thin bedding on the floor, in the far corner of this tiny, almost empty room.

The room only had a few books lying on the other corner and a bag next to it. I notice the old looking logs that was built like a wall around, leaving a small gap in the middle of one wall, forming a window. Where was I? Where was this?

"So, you're finally up huh?" The voice makes me jump back away, and I ended up slamming my head on the wooden wall. Everything went black for a second and my head started to spin until finally I felt the pain. "Oww."

"You shouldn't hurt your body anymore." She walks towards me. Since I have no more place to run, I just sit with a hand rubbing my head to soothe the pain, a little.

She sighs as she kneels in front of me and extends her hand forward to reach for my head. My heart beats fast and I try to dodge her hand by moving sideways, but she only ends up grabbing my other arm and tugging it off my head.

She turns me around and I feel her move my hair away from the back of my head. She sighs again. "See, you ended up making a small cut."

She lets go of me and goes to the corner where the bag was. "For some reason, you don't heal...let's just say, easily." She takes out a small bottle, a clean cloth and comes back to me again.

I looked at my arm that were wrapped in bandages and so was one of my hand. And my legs in places were too wrapped in similar bandages. While my dress was tattered and bloodied and ripped short.

"Sorry about your dress."

She turns me around and I feel a sting on the back of my head. I hiss in pain and try to move away but her strong grip on my shoulder stops me. I bit my lips hard to stop myself from screaming.

When she was done torturing me, she finally lets go and sits in front of me with her legs folded across, her arms too crossed over her chest. "So, who are you?"

Her green eyes look at me like she's looking beyond my eyes. I feel a weird energy radiating off her. Who was she? When I don't reply, she waves a hand before my face to get my attention again. "Do you even speak?"

"I-I"

"Oh, thank god, at least you can speak." She sighs again. "So, what's your story? Why did you jump in the river? Trust me it's not a best way to explore nature." She raises one of her brows at me.

And before I can speak, she speaks again but this time she jumps out of her place and leans forward, her hands tightly grabbing mine, her green eyes wide open. "Don't tell me, you were trying to kill yourself?"

"What?" I start shaking my head. "No. I-I wasn't."

"So why did you jump in the river then?" She goes back to her place and sits like she did before, looking at me for answers.

Then the memory plays back in my mind. I sigh as I remembered. I ran away from him and ended up running into the river, almost getting myself dead in the process. And with my memories, came the heartbreak. His words rang across my ears, he had said that he hated me. I sharp needle poked my heart as my eyes started to fill with tears.

Upon seeing my state, she held out her hands in front of me. "It's okay, don't tell me but please don't cry."

I shake my head as I face the roof to stop the tears from flowing and sniffed. "It's fine. I'm not crying." I looked at her and smiled. "I accidently fell into the river. I was running but I didn't see the river in front of me."

"You must have been really heartbroken to not hear or see that huge river right in front of you." She says now looking at me and smiling sadly. How she knows this, is beyond me.

"Anyways, I'm Evelyn. What's your name?" Evelyn asked. She was as beautiful as her name. Her long blond hair fell past her mid waist, reminding me of Natalie. Her green eyes stood out against her milky white complexion with her rosy tinted plump lips. She was utterly beautiful unlike me.

"Althea." I don't know why I said it, but it came right off my lips. Her eyes went wide for a second before she composed herself. She smiled and nodded. "Like the goddess."

"Yes, but nothing like her." I ended up adding.

She looks at me and smiles sadly. "Hey, I'm not judging. Anyways, where did you come from? Where's your family? Your home? I can help you with that." She changes the topic seeing where that conversation was leading, but this one did nothing to help, it only reminded me once again, of my own unanswered questions.

Where did I come from? Family? Did I have any? Who was I?

I shake my head slightly and smiled at her sadly. "I don't know." I shrug my shoulders.

She squints her brows at me. "What do you mean, you don't know?"

I let out a loud painful breath as I told her my story. Everything that happened since I opened my eyes to me running away. I don't know why but I felt like I could tell her everything and being the naïve human, I also told her that I had been living with a bunch of werewolves not thinking much about it. Werewolves, humans, witches and every other creature. To me, it meant nothing.

"Werewolves?" She shouted before she clasped her mouth shut. "Werewolves?" she said it again. But this time her voice barely above whisper.

I nod my head as I looked at her confused, thinking about what I had said again. But nothing seemed wrong or surprising. "Yes?" I said like a question.

"Werewolves are vicious creatures. They will use you and once they are done, they will not hesitate to wipe your existence off this land." She scurried away from me to the corner and starts packing her bag with her books.

"What are you doing?"

She stops to look back at me. "What do you think?" I just stare at her blankly.

She huffs a breath as she comes back to me and holds my hands. She sits on her knees in front of me. "Althea, I need to leave this place. If- if they find me, consider me dead." Then her green eyes, looks into mine. "I will rather die before I let one of them capture me."

"I will not live the same fate as my parents or my people. I will escape them again and again, until I cannot anymore. Then I will end this cycle of life. Althea, I cannot be caught by them."

"Why will they do anything to you? What wrong did you do?" I questioned her.

"My life itself is my crime, Althea." Her eyes flicker between mine as she says.
