The True King

-eleven years later-

(Sans's POV)

What a day. I drag my feet as I slowly make my way to the ruin door. Grillby has been teaching me how to better fight with my staff. There was tree that had fallen through the hole in the cave, and Grillby had burnt a taller staff for me, that way I didn't have to use my magic for my bone one. Using my staff, I can push myself out of the way of on coming attacks. Since I can't use my one leg very well, my other leg is stronger. I learned to tilt my head in battle, that way my one eye can see my opponent fully. I did a lot of training, but what monster doesn't learn to fight?

I leaned against the door, sliding down to the ground. I have been coming back here everyday. It's not like people were mean to me at the camp, far from it actually. But I just felt like this girl, on the other side of the door, just really understands me. I wait for a few minutes, before I hear a thump from the other side of the door. "Why can't skeletons play church music?", I said. "Don't know, why?", she replied. "They don't have any organs!". We exchanged jokes for about an hour before she had to go. I bid her farewell, and started walking back home.

Home. That's what the small little town we had made was to me. I remember the castle I used to live in, but this was my home. I tried to leave once, but luckily, I couldn't get the door open. I wonder how Papyrus is doing. Maybe I could visit him some day. He can't want to be mean forever, right? I will see him again, and not him while he's poisoned with LV. I'll see the real him, who just wanted to do what's right.

As I enter the camp, I can see several monsters coming and going. Most tip their head towards me, I sign of respect, but I wasn't the older brother, so it wasn't traditional to bow. Not that I'd want them to bow. That's just silly. Grillby did most of the 'leadership' type stuff, but I didn't mind. He was general in the army, before we were sealed in the Underground. He's a natural leader, and gets people to listen to him without much difficulty. Grillby wanted me to try to act like a leader, but what's the point? I'm not a leader. I don't think anyone would care about a word I say if I wasn't a prince. I couldn't even do the normal jobs of running a village because of my leg and eye. I'm honestly just the brother of the king, who wasn't suppose to exist. I mentally sigh. Welp, nothing I can do to change it, I'll just live with it.

I see Grillby slipping into the house me and him share. None of the houses here are very big or grand, but we manage. I quickly head to the house, walking in behind Grillby. I stand quiet.y behind him. Enemies though my leg is cracked, I still have the skeleton's ability to sneak up on anyone. From the shadows, I hear Grillby mumbling to himself. I catch a few words like "18" and "older". I could tell he was thinking about something important. Whenever he is deep in though, his left elbow twitches just the smallest bit. He suddenly spun around, his flames lighting up the corner where I am hiding.

"Sans!? How long have you been there?!" Grillby jumps when he sees me. "About how ever long you've been in here", I say with a cheeky smile. Grillby sighs, and leads me outside. "Well come on, Sans, I have something I need to tell you", Grillby says in a serious voice. I follow him out onto the dirt trail that is worn into the ground.

(A/N I don't know why it's tacking me so long to wright this paragraph. Like 20 words a day)

Grillby lead me down the path, turning down what seemed random paths, until I feel completely lost. But we still continue on. Eventually, he stops in a small clearing, a few flowers and rock formations nearby. Grillby sings against a rock, motioning for me to do the same. Once I sit down, Grillby starts to speak, "Sans, I have something important to tell you. So not interrupt me, because then I might not continue. When you and Papyrus were born, your parents feared you would die because of your leg and how weak you are. The Underground needs a strong king if we are ever to get out of here. So Gaster made up a plan to better protect you both. Papyrus was introduced as older, you the younger. And no one knew different, except for me".

It took a few seconds for Grillby's words to hit me. Then, I felt as if I've been punched in the gut. I'm older then Papyrus! I've been lied to my entire life! Wait a second does this mean....... I'm suppose to be king!? I stare straight ahead in shock. What about all the people suffering under my brother rule? My people........ I can't leave them like this.

I take a deep breath, and quietly say, "Grillby, I have to go talk to Papyrus".
