Chapter - 2 - Sign it or die in Regret
"The wrong decision you made at the right time is better than the right decision you made at the wrong time."
- Ben Fajemilua
The sound of autumn leaves crunched beneath the boots belonging to a male with brown hair as he walked through a forgotten alleyway near the town square.
The curls at the end of his hair bouncing lightly as he walked through the dark space, his reached out hand felt through the darkness and pushed aside the vines growing on what looked like a mahogany wooden door and brushed off the cobwebs sticking to it.
He took a good look at the door and let out a sigh as he thought about what he was going to do once he opened the door.
The door creaked as he pushed through it, darkness enveloped him as he entered, turning on the flashlight of his phone, he kept it in front of him to have clearer view of where he was going.
The sound of dripping water filled the area as he walked forward with a haste in his steps and fright in his eyes.
He flinched at the spiders scurrying past his boots, stepped on them in an attempt to get rid of them and continued on his way through the darkness. Once he finally reached another vine covered white door, he twisted it's handle and entered inside.
The sound of a crackling fireplace reached his ears, the sound melodious and matched his rapidly beating heart.
He could almost taste the ash and smoke coming out of the fire, if he wasn't so concentrated on the man standing in front of him. The man wore a beige coat and a pair of brown jeans, and seemed to be looking at the time on his watch.
Zafodil himself wasn't badly dressed, but he couldn't help but feel self conscious as he looked down at his dark brown sweater and wood colored pants. He could feel the sweat dripping down his back as the man he was was staring at looked back at him.
The man- the one he met at a club that was willing to let him sign a contract paper that would relieve him of the debts that his late parents had passed down to him.
"Welcome boy, I'm Luka, the man you met at the bar last week. You still remember the terms we agreed upon?"
Zafodil was slightly startled at hearing the sound of Luka's rough raspy voice but managed to prevent himself from flinching. He nodded his head in response to his question
"No wonder you seemed familiar, I'm Zafodil. And yes, I do remember the terms we agreed upon. I have come here to sign the contract if you may allow it."
The man- Luka- nodded at that, and motioned his hands towards a small round table in the middle of the room.
An abundant amount of papers littered the small table but one stood out to the brown-haired boy- The one which had his name written on it in thick black ink. Zafodil knew what he had to do without Luka having to explain it to him.
He grabbed the small pen he had kept with him in his pocket and went near the table, he didn't bother looking over the conditions, as long as his debt was cleared he didn't have a care in the world about what happened to him.
As he was about to sign the paper, Luka put a hand on his shoulder and gestured with his head towards another pen lying near the heaps of papers.
How hadn't he noticed that? but he got the memo and took the pen in his hand and signed the contract paper.
Unknowing of the fact that he had signed his life away.
After he took the pen away from the contract paper, he could see the ink of his signature slowly changing it's color.
Everything around him started to blur.
Luka.
Who had just been standing over his shoulder seemed so far away, his ears started ringing and he was almost certain he would lose his sense of hearing.
But before he could think of anything more- the world around him stopped.
Everything went white.
