Recap:

"Then I will fight next to him," Armand insisted, placing his hand above her shoulder, "I taught him and am much stronger than him. You can rely on me. Go back to the kingdom. You are in no state to fight."

"You do not understand," she retaliated, stepping back from his touch, "I have to be here. Adrien will get weaker and without me... You just wouldn't understand."

* * *

"You are right," DarkBlade agreed, "I would not understand. What I do understand is that, if you die on the battlefield, Adrien will never live as the same person he is today."

The princess looked to the ground and admitted, "If I leave, he might not live at all."

"Oh, but he will," DarkBlade gestured to her stomach, "through you. Take care of the baby with your life and I will take care of your husband with mine. Go home, Your Majesty. Go home."

The next morning, just as the sun was rising, Marinette was packing all her belongings in the carriage that had just arrived to pick her up. She hugged her cousin before she could get into her ride, but her confused husband managed to wake up just in time to see her off- it was as if he could sense that she was leaving him.

My love?" Adrien asked confusedly, "Where are you going? Where is your armour? What is happening?"

"I am sick, Adrien," Marinette replied, wiping her eyes, "I cannot fight."

A crowd of worried soldiers gathered outside their tents, wondering why their best female soldier needed to go back to the palace when they needed her most.

"DarkBlade insisted that I go home," Marinette continued, choosing her words carefully, "because I am in no state to go onto the battlefield."

"But, I still do not understand..."

Adrien could tell that she was hiding something from him. Marinette would never leave her people in battle, no matter how sick she was. It had to be one really horrible sickness for her to be turning away from a fight for her kingdom.

"I haven't been entirely honest with you," Marinette admitted guiltily.

Oh, not again, Adrien thought, rolling his eyes. He could not afford to be worried about secrets the day before battle. In fact, Adrien believed that Marinette was being a bit selfish now, leaving her soldiers to defend her kingdom without her. It seemed like a cruel thing to believe, but Adrien knew Marinette and this was not something she would do without a proper explanation.

"What is it this time?" he sighed, folding his arms.

Before she could explain, another carriage entered the scene. Adrien was now more puzzled than ever. Louis was about to call some of the guards to inspect it, but Marinette told him not to. A soldier appeared from the carriage, wearing full armour similar to Marinette's. The soldier had a slender figure and average height with pale skin, freckles, light brown eyes, and short black hair with blue reflections. The soldier was also a girl.

"Your Majesty," she greeted, bowing down to Marinette, "It is such an honour to be serving you."

"Thank you so much for accepting my request at such short notice, Kagami," Marinette thanked, taking her hand, "We really needed a strong fighter like you on our side."

Adrien shook his head, gesturing to Kagami before asking his wife, "Marinette, who is this? Why-?"

"This is Kagami Tsurugi!" Marinette announced to the crowd, interupting her husband's confusion, "She is your new leading female soldier. Treat her with respect as she is taking over from me on the battlefield."

Murmurs spread throughout the crowd, uneasy glances radiating towards the newest member of their team. Kagami then nodded gratefully to Marinette and thanked her again, "I really do appreciate this opportunity, Your Majesty, and wish you luck with the baby."

The crowd could not hear what Kagami was saying from the distance that was between them, but Adrien A thousand thoughts were running through Adrien's head, but he could not focus straight. I wish you luck with the baby? Suddenly, with just a simple sentence, everything started to make sense.

"You are pregnant?" Adrien asked Marinette, almost in a whisper.

Kagami then stared at the prince with shock as if to say, You really did not know? She gave Marinette a guilty look, but the princess gently squeezed her hand a reassuringly with a sad smile on her face- he was going to find out one way or the other. Marinette stood right in front of Adrien who was now staring at her stomach.

"I'm sorry I did not tell you," Marinette apologised, placing her hands on each side of his face.

He then turned his gaze to her blue-bell irises that he fell in love with the second he saw them- he then noticed red streaks through the whites of her eyes. How could he not have noticed that she had been crying? He should have known there was something he was missing when he had told her about Nathaniel.

"Y-you are going to have a baby," Adrien breathed, still processing the news, "I am going to be a father..."

Marinette kissed him gently on the lips and he retaliated lovingly. The crowd stayed silent, giving them time to themselves. They all knew that Marinette had saved Adrien's life the last time so they were now worried for him because if he died in this war, they would be forced to surrender. Luckily for them, Marinette had everything under control.

"Kagami is one of the strongest fighters from the Kubdel Kingdom, sent from the king himself," Marinette explained, "If she is as good as they say she is, Kagami might even be stronger than me. I trust her with the life of my people and I know she will do well."

Marinette then hugged Adrien and pressed her lips to his ear so that nobody could hear what she had to tell him.

"Armand is also a much better fighter than I am," Marinette whispered, "and he is your mentor. Please stay close to him and Kagami so that you will be safe."

"I will be okay," Adrien replied, hugging her back carefully as to not crush her in a smothering embrace, "Do not worry about me. He is right, you need to protect our child. You hold the future heir to the throne. We cannot risk losing that life."

"I have a good feeling that it is a boy," Marinette said, a sad smile upon her face, "If so, I was thinking of naming him Hugo."

Adrien chuckled amusedly at his wife, loving her even more. She would always find ways to cheer him up. Marinette glanced at the group of soldiers that had been relying on her. Some of them were whispering to each other, giving her worried glances.

The princess sighed, "I do not want to make it seem as if I am weak."

Adrien wore an expression of amusement, "Oh, they know you would be able to beat them all in battle if you had the opportunity. And none of them had gotten pregnant during a war. Who are they to judge?"

Marinette laughed and kissed him one last time before letting him go.

"I love you," she said, "Good luck and be safe."

"I love you too," he mumbled, kissing her forehead, "Keep our kingdoms safe back at home for me. I'll be here, fighting for our future."

They had found their way onto the battlefield, Adrien on the front line with DarkBlade on his left and Kagami Tsurugi on his right (where Marinette would have been). The Agreste, Dupain and Lavillant soldiers followed from behind and spread out evenly to show their quantity. There was power in numbers.

"Stay besides me at all times," DarkBlade told Adrien, looking straight ahead, "I promised Marinette to take care of you with my life."

Adrien understood for knew that he would lose a lot of strength during the battle without Marinette so he needed someone by his side that he could trust in order to keep him on his feet. And who would be more reliable than his mentor?

Adrien glanced at Kagami in her full armour, including the helmet, and realized why the Kubdel Kingdom chose this soldier specifically to fight for them. Her short, dark hair and slender figure was strikingly similar to the appearance of Marinette's. It could trick the opposing team into thinking the princess was actually there. It would threaten them.

"Stay near me," Adrien said to Kagami, "to make our enemies think that you are Marinette. We stay together during battle because we are stronger together."

Kagami nodded, her eyes showing a shimmer of respect through the slit in the helmet. Adrien noticed movement behind the hill. It was his time now to give his soldiers a speech. He had not prepared one this time, but he knew exactly what to say.

"Soldiers!" Adrien shouted, loud enough for all the soldiers to hear, "We stand here on this field once again fighting for our future, but today we fight for the future of the ones we love!"

The crowd cheered, a few soldiers nodding respectfully and thinking about their families back at home. Adrien continued, "This war is the only thing keeping us from having a better life for ourselves, our parents, siblings, wives– you name it! If we surrender today, soldiers, then what are we fighting for?!"

Nothing, they replied passionately
"But if we win today," the prince said, "We will not only have better lives for ourselves. We will have a better world..." Adrien glanced to DarkBlade then announced, "The future heir to both the Agreste and  Dupain Kingdoms is yet to be born!"

"Do let us fight for the future of our kingdoms! Fight for the people we love and fight for the world we want them to have!"

"CHARGE!"

Adrien made his way to the back of his tent where he was able to get a fantastic view of the open space of trees and the night sky filled with stars above. Marinette would be devastated once she finds out about Louis's death, but she would feel proud that her cousin died protecting someone who makes her feel happy.

Adrien could still feel the sensation he did when Louis pressed his back onto his side. Louis was not fast enouh to raise his sword to block off an enemy attack, so his body took the impact.

Even though Adrien had not experienced a sword going through his own body, watching one slide through Louis's torso had broke Adrien's heart just as bad. The moment Louis fell to the ground, Adrien felt a wave of anger and hate surround his insides and he fought harder on the battlefield than he had ever done before.

At the end of the day, the Kurtzberg Kingdom had surrendered because they had realised that their leading soldier was nowhere to found on the battlefield and Ivan Bruel had gotten his head severed from his body under that of the Louis Dupain-Cheng who lay still on the battlefield as if he were in a peaceful sleep.

Adrien closed his eyes and took a moment to acknowledge and appreciate all the times her had trained with Louis and all the loyalty he had shown when Nathaniel Kurtzberg arrived in the Dupain Kingdom. He died a hero in the battlefield just as Hugo did and for that he would never be forgotten.

Suddenly, in the corner of his eye, Adrien saw a suspicious movement from the trees. The moonlight allowed him to make out a weapon upon a lone figure. He recognised the face of one of Nathaniel's main soldiers– Le Chién Kim. He was pointing his bow-and-arrow straight at his heart.

Adrien remembered something that Marinette had told him after the first war. Alix and Kim used to be close friends when they were younger and they had secretly been lovers until her father found out. Kim would have been ordered dead if not for Nathaniel who had recruited Kim as one of his leading soldiers in battle. Alix had not seen him since then. Kim had a soft spot and the princess knew exactly how to use it.

"You must be Kim," Adrien laughed to the figure in the darkness.

The soldier hesitated, still holding up his weapon. They knew his name and his weakness already– a huge disadvantage for Nathaniel because he had wanted the murder to be a secret, no proof that it was his doing.

"Why do you laugh?" Kim asked suspiciously, not sure exactly what to do now.

"Because I will die a happy man, knowing that my love is safe," Adrien replied, "And you are a man who will forever stay in the shadow of the person who keeps you from that love."

Adrien glanced back to the tent, calculating his predicament precisely. The speed of an arrow was much too fast for them to run away from. Le Chién's absence on the battlefield cost the Kurtzberg Kingdom the war. If he was one of Nathaniel's greatest soldiers then he had good aim even if they tried to make their way back into the tent.

"I have to follow orders for Prince Nathaniel," the soldier said, but he lowered his weapon just an inch, "What love do I need other than that of my country."

"Your country," Adrien scoffed, "has surrendered because you weren't present on the battlefield. You do understand that you will get punished for betraying your army? Nathaniel is just using you as a puppet you just didn't see it."

Oh, Kim saw it alright but he would never admit it. He owed Nathaniel his life after he recruited him as one of Kurtzberg'sleading soldiers so Nathaniel did not deserve to be betrayed.

"Nathaniel is confuse, Kim," Adrien continued, arms wide as if challenging him to argue,  "He would do anything to destroy me because I told him that Marinette and I had slept together. But only because we love each other and he will never get the love we have."

"You know that feeling, Kim?" Adrien persuaded, "Nathaniel does not understand the meaning behind his orders. Put down the bow. You control your own actions. You don't have to suffer from actions you were told to do."

"I cannot go back to the Kurtzberg Kingdom without having killed you," Kim admitted, frowning.

"Then don't go back," Adrien said, "Come with us. You will never have to be apart from Alix ever again. Put down your weapon, Soldier. You are done fighting."

Kim nodded, accepting his situation. He surrendered to their promise, but just before he could put down his weapon, his eyes widened and he aimed it towards them once again. Marinette tried pulling herself forward, but Adrien refused, pushing his chest outwards and prepared for impact.

However, no one was prepared for what came next. Kim let go of the bowstring and the arrow shot forward...only to miss Adrien's chest by an inch. The soldier had aimed to the group of trees behind them.

Adrien looked confusedly into the darkness, wondering why Kim would possibly shoot there. Was his aim maybe just completely off? Wait...he could see a figure with an arrow now severed in it's heart. A female with ginger hair.

Adrien soon realized that it was a girl called the Vanisher who had a vendetta against him because he had killed her father, Soldier Roger. He thanked Kim for saving his life and they all lived happily friggin' after, the end.

[A/N: SEE! Boring! Cliché ending, get what I'm saying?]
