Tails was shocked. I mean, how could he not be?

His hands gripped the letter harder, disbelief flooding his face as he reread it.

The letter itself was something written long ago, probably when Tails was just born.  What shocked Tails the most was of what it said...

It was from his dad... But... It was so... Strange and caught him off guard.

The letter read, ' Dear son, I know I'm not around much... But... There is some things I must tell you. I hope that some day this note reaches you... But.... If you are reading this, then I'm probably either dead or trapped. And if I am.. You probably are going by the last name 'Prowers', From your mother's side. Your mother and I... We promised you would go by her last name if I ever disappear. For safety, I suppose, to protect you from... From someone I'm fighting. But enough about that... The name you were born with was 'Fox Mccloud'. And my name is James Mccloud..... I... I hope...I... Heh, never realized this would be so tough to write... I guess.. No, I hope this finds you in good health, kiddo. And... I promise that... I never abandoned you. Not once... At the time I'm writing this, I am about to head out for a mission that could possibly be the end of me. I.. Wrote this to you so that you know... So you know that your father cares deeply about you and your mom. So you know that I never wanted to leave you. I love you kiddo... From, your father, James Mccloud.'

Tails felt warm tears drip down his face, his body shaking.

For so long, he had been looking for clues to what happened to his family.... Amd now... Now he found a single proof that.. That his family never abandoned him. That he had a sliver of an idea that they loved him.

Tails glanced up at Sonic with wide eyes, whispering," How...."

Sonic sighed softly, hands folded on the table in front of him while his ears were a bit lowered," I found it while exploring an old building that looked abandoned.. At first, I didn't even notice it right away until I noticed the cursive writing on the front saying 'To Miles Prowers'....  I couldn't just leave it there... Especially since I know how long you've been looking..."

Tails slowly started smiling, attempting to wipe the tears away with his palms while mumbling," T-thank you, sonic..."

Sonic smiled, although it didn't quite meet his eyes as he reached over a ruffled the fur on Tails' head," Course, bud..... So.... What now..?"

Tails was silent a moment, looking down at the letter with a caculating gaze. Then, a look of determination formed on his face, him looking up at Sonic," I.. I think I'm going to go look for him. I think I want to find out if he survived whatever attack he fought through. And, if he didn't... I'm going to stop whoever caused the attack in the first place."

Sonic nodded in understanding," Alright... Where do we start searching?"

Tails looked away from sonic, clenching the letter tighter,".... I... I think I have to do this on my own... "

Sonic's went down a bit more," oh... Are you sure you want to do this on your own, bud? "

Tails nodded,"... I.. Feel like I have to do this on my own. Besides... I have a feeling that to find him, I'm going to have to leave mobius. You're needed here, sonic... "

Sonic was silent for a bit, before saying,"... Tails.. You're just as needed, bud! I dunno what I would do without ya.."

Tails chuckled dryly," I'm sure you can manage.. Besides, sometimes a baby bird has to leave the nest, right?"

Sonic's eyes widened before he chuckled,"... I guess your not wrong about that... But... You sure about this?

Tails nodded," Absolutely."

Sonic rubbed the back of his quills," ... Alright. We... We should tell the others, yeah?"

Tails gave a thumbs up," Yeah, we should..."
