WHAT IF THE 3 COUSIN MONARCHS OF WW1 BANDED TOGETHER

Most of you may not know this but at the beginning of the first world war, king George the fifth of Great Britain, Kaiser Wilhelm the second of Germany and Tsar Nicholas the second of Russia were actually cousins, it is unclear [to me] whether or not they were 1st or 2nd cousins or even more.

How ever what I do know that Tsar Nicholas and Kaiser Wilhelm were sort of close to each other.

When Archduke Franz Ferdinand of the Austrio-Hungarian Empire was assasinated on June 28th 1914 by Serbian patriots. Austria-Hungary sent a list of demands to Serbia and 1 month to agree to those or face war. At the same time they went to the German Empire (who they had a defense. Pact with) for help, of course the government of Germany agreed and gave full support, however unbeknowest to most the Kaiser did not want to participate in the war.

As we all know Serbia accepted all demands except for 1 which was that Austria-Hungary should be allowed to send in troops to find out who murdered the archduke. This was enough of an excuse for them who declared war on Serbia on 28th July 1914, however Serbia had an alliance with the Tsardom of Russia who than declared war on Austria-Hungary, Germany than declared war on Russia, France had an alliance with Russia so they declared war on Germany and so on.

How ever on July 28th before the war started the Tsar actually sent a telegram to the Kaiser. The telegram stated

In this serious moment, I appeal to you to help me. An ignoble war has been declared to a weak country. The indignation in Russia shared fully by me is enormous. I foresee that very soon I shall be overwhelmed by the pressure forced upon me and be forced to take extreme measures which will lead to war. To try and avoid such a calamity as a European war I beg you in the name of our old friendship to do what you can to stop your allies from going too far.

I will not bore you with the full details but The Kaiser and The Tsar kept exchanging the telegrams between each other, however they both failed to reach a conclusion and on the 1st of August just hours after the last telegram from the Kaiser to the Tsar, Russia declared war on Austria-Hungary and Germany declared war on Russia.

When King George V found out he tried to send telegrams to both of them and both ignored the telegram. Thus WW1 started.

However in this chapter we will explore 2 scenarios. What if Wilhelm and Nicholas reached a treaty and what if King George V managed to make both the Kaiser and Tsar peace out and stop the war (also I will link the website at the end if you want to read more of the telegrams as it took me 30 minutes to find them and I don't wish that pain unto anyone).

Anyways let's jump into the first scenario.

July 28 1914, the Austrio-Hungarians are about to declare war on Serbia and march in troops. Tsar Nicholas the second quickly sends a telegram to Wilhelm. Both begin a series of discussions. However Germany is unable to stop Austria-Hungary much to the dismay if Russia and Russia can't go back in its treaty much to the dismay of Germany.

Eventually they both find common ground and start to progress. This common ground, in fact, was the land of Austria-Hungary. For as long as Germany existed, and even before with Prussia, the leaders wanted to unite all German speaking lands, they were only partially successful however due to Austria-Hungary being twice as powerful as them at the time. On the other hand, Russia had long wanted to control the Balkan region so it could have free access to the Mediterranean and prevent the Ottomans from invading Europe.

Thus on the 31st of July a treaty was signed between Kaiser Wilhelm the second and Tsar Nicholas the second. This treaty had needed a lot of convincing between the 2 and at the end this treaty was beneficial for both (this treaty would almost never happen in real life as both nations were extremely loyal however you'll have to forgive me as I'm sure these 2 Nations won't mind on the account of not existing anymore).

The treaty of Warsaw would shock all the of Europe, especially Austria-Hungary and France as well as Serbia. It stated that:

1-Both Germany and Russia would renounce there alliances with Russia leaving the alliance with France and Serbia and Germany with Austria-Hungary and Italy.
2-both nations would work together to make sure that Austria-Hungary wouldn't invade Serbia, through any means possible
3-this treaty would be dissolved after 5 years which is the theorized time for restoring peace in eastern Europe.

What the Russians and Germans didn't tell anyone was that if they had to go to war with Austria-Hungary than Germany would get all the German speaking lands within the empire and Russia would get control of the Balkans.

This treaty enraged several nations especially Austria-Hungary and France. How dare the 2 cut all relations with them. This however, instantly stopped the already started invasion of Serbia as a ceasefire was announced 2 days after the treaty.

However in a week France and Austria-Hungary would sign a treaty of their own known as the Franko-Austrian defence pact. In the following days the 2 alliances would hold several meetings to discuss the future of Europe. Now you may be wondering why Great Britain hadn't participated. Well at this time the UK wanted nothing to do with Europe and so had handed over it's protection and maintainence to France.

These talks would fail however and on the 28th of August, Austria-Hungary would again declare war on Serbia, Russia and Germany would than follow the rules of their treaty by declaring war on the Austrio-Hungarians. France would than declare war on Germany and Russia thus beginning the first world war.

29th August, Austria-Hungary sends an army of at least 500 000 men, since Russia does not send immediate aid to Serbia, the battle rages on for much longer than expected. In the East, Russia prepare an army of 1.8 million men to send into Austria-hungary. At the same time Germany prepared an army of 750, 000 to invade Belgium same as in the original time line. Russia and Germany had set up a plan that Russia would be focusing on Austria-Hungary while Germany would go after France.

The 750 000 troops reached the Belgian border on 1st September, Germany officially declared war on them. They started to push through and a week later were almost at the French border, however something very unfortunate for the Germans was that the UK did not like Germany invading neutral nations and on the first of September declared war on Germany sending 680,000 troops to the Franko-German border. The 3rd Monarch King George V condemned his cousins and officially joined France and Austria-Hungary.

However like in the original timeline Germany pushes through and almost reaches Paris by 19th September where they dig up trenches for the winter.

In the East, Serbia has finally fallen to Austria-Hungary and Russian men have entered the enemy only to find 1.5 million men waiting, however the Russians still see success and push into Austria-hungary before they also settle in for winter.

Just like that, there would be minimum fighting until the 31st of October when the Ottomans would finally decide which side to choose and declare war on Russia and Germany, on the other hand, to protect themselves from the Ottomans, Greece and Bulgaria join the allied powers.

Since the Ottomans and Russia were seperated by the Caucuses so there wasn't any real fighting happening in the East except for a small force of 2000 Russians exchanging shots with a small Ottoman force of 1500.

However the Ottomans send an army of 800,000 thousand men from Constantinople which would than divide into two 400,000 men armies which would lay siege on the kingdom of Greece and the Tsardom of Bulgaria. The Ottomans would push the Bulgarians back to plovdiv and the Greeks till Larissa where the Ottomans would stop due to the winter and a siege is set up. On the other hand this allows Austria-Hungary to send troops from the Balkans to it's border with Russia, more than 500,000 troops leave the Balkans and join the Austrio-Hungarian armies in the east where they manage to push back the Russians to Ukraine.

In the north Austria-Hungary sends an army of 35,000 to attack Germany. However they are met by the 3rd German division consisting of 400,000 troops heading for France, the 35,000 troops are quickly captured and sent to german prisons.

The 1st of January 1915 and the battle continues on, the Ottomans have restarted their invasion of the Balkans and are expected to annex both Greece and bulgaria within a month, in the West, the 750 000 German troops have been pushed back to Belgium where they get reinforcements from the 3rd German division hence increasing the size of the army to 1.1 million men, these men than again start to begin trench warfare against the British and French.

Back in the East, Russia has been pushed back to Kyev by an Austrio-Hungarian army of 3 million men, however the Russians soon begin to counterstrike again and again and after a month the border is again pushed into the Slovakian part of Austria-Hungary.

5 months later on the second of May, the Ottomans have successfully annexed Greece and Bulgaria and have sent the remaining troops (560,000) to prepare to take out Rumania. The plan is to slowly circle around Ukraine and capture Crimea.

The seige of Rumania begins on 20th May and the Ottomans make progress, however said progress is disrupted when 120,000 troops are relocated and joined with 240,000 other troops and sent to the Caucuses where the Russians have sent 400,000 men.

In the West, Germany has pushed back to the border of Paris. However further progress is halted as a combined Indian, Canadian, Australian and British Army of 2.3 million men lands at Hamburg and starts pushing towards Berlin, however the army moves extremely slow and is soon forced to dig up trenches as the heavy artillery tore it to bits, a smaller German army of 1.76 million men is sent to attack the men and the battle for Deutschland began.

1 year later
The war had been going on for 2 years as the date approached the 9th of August 1916, the battle had now become more of a struggle for survival. In the West the allied forces in Germany had been pushed to Hamburg yet the German forces in France were pushed back to Brussels, both cities were under siege and chemical weapons were being used.

The only movement was happening in the East. Russia had pushed into Austrio-Hungarian controlled Slovakia and was threatening the borders of the actual lands of Austria and Hungary, the Austro-Hungarian army there had been reduced from 1.55 million to 450,000 and the Russian army had been reduced from 1.8 million to 200,000 thousand.

The Ottomans had however, saw much success. They had successfully taken Romania and had pushed into the the coastal regions of Ukraine, their army had received reinforcements and was 1 million strong as it fought against a Russian division of 560,000 cavalry and laid siege to Crimea st the same time. However unfortunately for them Russia had almost divided the Ottomans in half as they captured Elazig and pushed towards Constantinople. Thankfully an Indian force of 650,000 had intercepted the now 800,000 thousand strong Russian army and along with 200,000 Ottoman troop, the combined Indian-Ottoman and Russian armies settled in Ankara slowly but surely damaging and weakening the other.

2 years later, March 18th 1918, the Russians officially leave the war due to a mild case of civil war, as a result Austria-Hungary takes back there land, takes Ukraine and Belarus and than on 29th of July sends in 1.45 million men to finish off Germany from behind. The Ottomans also get what they wanted by completely taking the coastal areas of Ukraine and enclosing the Black Sea, the Caucuses also fall under the Ottoman Empire.

Now Germany is in an alone fight of a 2 front war, on one hand it is fighting with 1.3 million troops in the west and on the other it has sent 2 divisions of 400,000 thousand men to deal with the Austrio-Hungarians.

2 months later, German forces are expelled from France and Austrio-Hungarian troops begin the siege of Berlin.

1 year later, June the 4th of 1919, Germany surrenders and thus the first world war ends.

The treaty of Vienna is signed which states that

1-Germany would lose its colonies, it would lose its eastern lands of kaliningrad to the newly independent Poland and there would be no east Germany, the Belgians would also get independence though the Germans could keep Luxembourg. Austria-hungary would have to give up Belarus which would be joined into the newly made Poland. However they would keep the northern areas of Ukraine and would keep Serbia. France would take the Rhineland and UK would occupy Hamburg. The Ottomans would get all of the land surrounding the black sea, Greece, Bulgaria amd Romania. The new USSR would keep all remaining lands but Finland would get it's independence.

That would mark the end of the war, the Ottomans and Austro-Hungarians wouldn't be dissolved and Germany and Russia would lose a lot.

The USA would never join the war as Germany wouldn't feel it to be necessary to invite Mexico to help as they were doing pretty good.

That's all for the first scenario, let's take a look at the second one.

So it's the 1st of August 1914 and WW1 has officially started. When King George V finds out he is shocked to see this. However instead of sending telegrams he sends letters inviting his cousins to London to discuss peace and to avoid all out war.

Nicholas II agrees yet Wilhelm II needs some convincing, at the end however both monarchs agreed and the date of 5th August was set up, in the meantime a ceasefire has been organized between the nations of Europe.

5th August and the 3 cousins meet in Buckingham palace. The meeting takes all day but at the end the Vãr pact has been signed, this is pact declares.

1-There will be no war under any circumstances.
2-Serbia will agree to half the demands of Austria-Hungary according to it's own choice.
3-Austria-hungary would receive 5.86 million Serbian Dinars from Serbia over a time of 3 months.
4-Germany, Russia and France would back down from war and sign the treaty of Europe maintaining peace.
5-Great Britian would over see the necessary changes and would also be providing aid to whatever nation requiring it.

This treaty was hated by Austria-Hungary, Serbia and France however since it was reinforced by the 3 most powerful nations of Europe they had no choice but to agree. Thus on 19th August 1914 world war 1 is avoided.

This would lead to several important changes. Firstly there would be no communism in Russia as the war wouldn't tear the Tsardom apart. Secondly the Austro-Hungarians and Ottomans wouldn't be dissolved. Thirdly there would be no deaths or horrific atrocities committed in the western or eastern areas of Europe.

Although I'm pretty sure sooner or later another reason would spring and war would be inevitable again. But that's for another scenario.
