Chapter 23

They accidentally grouped up at the front of the house where everything started. The hole on the house wall from Number Two's attack were there, looking fresh as if it has just landed there a few minutes ago.

Farra breathed deeply as she stared up to the sky. It has some pinkish streaks on it, and she knew it by then that it was dawn. Any seconds now and the skyline will turn into different shades of oranges before settling on its normal blue. She looked to her side and saw Izzudin staring in front of them. They were circled by all of the remaining creatures, but each of the creatures were already evolved in time and made it even harder to destroy them.

"This can't do." Izzudin murmured. He glanced at Farra and saw her already looking at him. They shared a knowing look before Farra nodded rigidly.

He smiled at her and she returned it. She stepped back to the last of her members; Hisham, Noorizan, Miezza and Jyra who were alert to any movements from the creatures. Izzudin stayed where he was.

"Farra, I need you to take the members to the hidden room, now." Izzudin said and Farra nodded, eyes travelling down to her shoes that were covered in dirt by now.

Miezza looked at Farra and Izz. "What?" She asked incredulously.

Izzudin didn't even spare a glance to her.

"You heard me. This clan needs leaders for the next generation."

"And you? What are you going to do?"

"I'll be fine. Now go."

Miezza bit her bottom lip. "I'm staying with you."

"No!" Izzudin roared. "Go. Away. I don't need you to be here. Just go with Farra."

"Why can't I be with you? Don't lie to me Izz, I know you, and you are not a good liar. If you're thinking of sacrificing yourself then you better think of another idea now because I'm not letting you to."

"I don't ask for your opinion." He replied harshly. He turned to her, eyes cold and the corner of his lips were curled down in distaste.

"Now stop being a spoiled child and go. You're risking the entire group." He added and Miezza was shocked by the bitterness in his voice. She looked at her friends, their expressions reflecting her own. Farra's lip were set in thin lines.

He divided himself to a clone and used his clone to push her toward the house. She was already tearing up. Izzudin was pushing her away. They made a promise that they will figure it out together and now he didn't want her to be there, yet she wanted to be with him in life and in death.

Jyra placed a palm on Miezza's shoulder and pulled her into the house as the real Izzudin faced back to the warpath, the clone still ushering the rest to follow the Leader who already stepped inside the house.

Miezza turned around one last time, expecting him to be looking at her but he didn't. Her heart broke into tiny parts, yet all of them were still screaming his name. She know she'd be waiting for him. She wanted him back, and she'll deal with him later.

"Promise you'll come back!" Miezza yelled from the door. "Promise me!"

Izzudin didn't bother to look at her. He kept his back on her. He felt like he was stabbed by thousand of thorns, it was too painful and real at the same time. She asked him to promise, and he really wanted to. But he knew exactly what will happen.

"You will die." Farra said when they were in the office.

Sheronica was training with the new members and the Numbers respectively, while the other leaders were in his office talking about the incoming war. Farra has had another vision and it was about who will live and who wouldn't.

The Crystal Ball has chosen the new leaders. So it was their job to make sure that the Vision are fulfilled. And that's what they will do.

"You will die the second last." She added and he nodded.

"Miezza?" He asked. He didn't care if he will die, as long as that girl will survive. If the Crystal Ball didn't chose her, he will go through hell to change it, even if it mean to lose his own life.

"She's one of the Chosen."

From his clone's eyes, he saw that they were all inside the house. He clearly saw the look of disbelief and betrayal in Miezza's eyes. He'd rather her to hate him than think that he betrayed her.

He can only pray that she would forgive him and hoped that she will live the best of her life before it all starts again.

He heard a shuffling to his left and he detached a clone just as a creature made its way to attack him. His clone was faster and tackled the creature to the floor, snapping its neck and it's crumbled.

He heard senses more movements and he multiplied himself to more clones, doing his best to reduce the number so that Farra wouldn't be facing deep problems later.

"Come on, let's go. We need to be fast." Farra urged, as she climbed down the basement where Zul, Sheronica and Lissa hid. They arrived at a sturdy wall with intricate design and painting embedded into it.

The new members admired the wall. It was beautiful, and there was symbols of each elements on, carved deep into the smooth surface.

They had only been there a couple of times, and one of the time was when they collected all four Crystal Balls and placed it back into its respective places behind that wall. It was considered sacred for the Alphabets as they were the source of their powers and their very existence relied on the magic balls.

Moreover, the wall can only be opened by the Leader's Alphabet, in their case, Farra's 'F' necklace.

"As you all know, only I can open this door." She said, and the others nodded.

"But there's also another way."

Hisham turned to her and she took a breath.

"This wall will part with the Crystal's powers. It will open when you need it the most. But right now I'm opening it with my Letter."

She unclasped her necklace. Before she held it up, she turned to her friends.

"Go straight for the circle at the centre of the room once this door is opened. The Crystal Ball will specifically protect you as long as you're inside that line."

With that she held up her hand and her Letter gleamed softly before bursting in a lot of colours. The wall croaked and it slid open. Jyra pulled Miezza into the room and as soon as they stepped inside, lights flickered like there were inexistent candles. They rushed to the circle.

"What are you waiting for? Get inside." Farra said, looking between Noorizan and Hisham.

After a few moments of staring contest, Noorizan sighed and walked into the room. He stood in front of the girls.

"How about you?" Hisham asked. "You're not going to lie too right?"

Farra flinched. "No, of course not."

"Then are you coming in too?" He asked and she shifted on her feet.

"I have the key, so I can't move before you do." She replied and he was quiet, probably thinking about it. Then he nodded slowly.

"Remember, go straight for the circle." She said and Hisham stepped in hesitantly.

He did what Farra asked him to. He walked to the circle slowly, as his mind started to get uneasy.

She wouldn't do it right?

Then he heard the stone wall moved to close. He instantly turned on his heels and ran for it but he was late. Farra was gone.

She locked them inside.

Miezza, Jyra and Noorizan was still in shock as Hisham did everything he could to open the wall but sadly it wouldn't budge. He screamed her name as he kicked and punched on the surface, but to no avail.

"Farra, open this damnit!" He yelled. "You can't do this to me! You can't do this to yourself-"

The wall disappeared and Farra was standing in front of him. He heard gasps behind him but he ignored them. His heart aches because she lied to him. He knew she thought only of saving them, but he didn't want to be saved. He wanted to be the one to save her, not the other way around.

"Open this now." He said to Farra's face. She kept her expression neutral as he raised his voice to her. "I can't believe you tricked me!"

"I'm sorry." She whispered. "I have to do this. You have to live."

"I don't want to live without you! Don't you understand? You're my world, how am I supposed to live without my world?" He yelled again. "Stop being selfish and let me help you! You don't have to do everything by yourself." He ranted and stopped when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"I don't think she could hear you man." Noorizan deep voice said.

His shoulder slumped as his mind processed the logic in Noorizan's words. The walls must be covered in magic. They can see and hear what happens on the outside but anyone outside will be oblivious with what's on the inside. The Hidden Room, Izz had said. Now it made sense.

"You can hate me, but keep living please. At least do that for me. I will always be with you." She said. He didn't reply anything after that, he knew it as no use.

She turned around and walked away. But before she reached the stairs, she glanced over her shoulder.

"Please keep your promise." She said, and then she was gone.

Izz rolled on the ground as he stared up at the gigantic thing, gasping for air. He thought he had defeated all of the hooded creatures by himself when he crumbled the last one under his foot. He was about to party, when a very strong wind came which reminded him to Miezza.

The wind blew the dusts from fallen creatures and gathered them in front of the house, creating a whirling mass of air like that of a tornado. He stayed near the ground to keep himself from being sucked into the vortex, then he heard a loud groan.

He knew it wasn't a good news and he was proven right when a limb with countless of talons popped out from the big tornado.

Another limb popped out and then the tornado faded and standing on its place was a single big creature. It had thousand of little red eyes on its deformed head, the limbs with countless talons sticking out of it reminded him of a centipede.

"Ah hell no." He whined and dodged just in time when the creature struck its hand to him. He skidded on the ground, panting heavily. Not only it was massive in size, it also had a super healing and it was fast.

"Great, just great." He mumbled. Giving himself a good number of clones to attack in different sides. His plan was to confuse that thing and bring it down, where he will think of how to detach its head from the body.

But things were easier said than done. After a few minutes, he was down to one clone and even then that clone died when he was stabbed on the head with that talons. He visibly cringed.

"Graphic." He said, and avoided another hit, rolling on the floor.

"Man." Someone said and he snapped his head toward her.

"I thought you bailed on me." He grunted.

"Sorry I took so long." Farra replied getting into place next to him.

"The kids?"

She nodded. "Safe." And it was his turn to nod. He was glad that Miezza was in a good condition. He can now fight in peace.

"What happened here?" Farra yelled as she shot a lightning to the monster, no doubt testing it. It groaned and launched a counterattack. They managed to avoid it making its' limb connected to the ground and made a big hole on it.

"I finish all the little ones and they morphed into this big guy." He answered.

"Curse the Numbers and their tech." She said wrapping thick plants around the creature's legs and it stopped moving around. She pulled the legs together with her plant and wrapped them together with another root to kept it still.

"Farra give me Hisham's arrow." Izz said and Farra granted it to him, along with the bow. He attacked the eyes from a distance, blinding them so that the creature will lose its sight and it'll be easier to bring it down.

She went to the other side of the creature and began to shot it with different kind of powers that she as a Leader has. It managed to scratch or even wound the creature, but it healed just as fast.

So she diverted her focus to the neck.

Usually neck was the softest and delicate part of body, that even a smallest blade can make a big mess. In their case, the neck was thick, but still appeared to be a weak spot because the creature kept covering its neck.

Then she heard a loud sickening crunch and a scream at the same time. She craned her neck and saw a figure hunching on the ground. Her eyes widened and she rushed to the spot.

"Don't come near!" Izz yelled and he grunted in pain.

"Let me help you!" Farra replied with a yell of her own and he shook his head, grimacing in the process.

"I know I can't make it. You have to finish this." He looked to his side and shot her a smile. "I'm ready after all."

Tears fell from Farra's eyes and he chuckled.

"I'm glad I make you cry. I feel honoured. It's not easy to see you cry." He joked and coughed blood. "Yep, that's my cue." He said, still smiling.

"I'm glad I know you sis." He whispered and closed his eyes.

Farra bit her bottom lip and fisted her hands on her sides to kept herself from going to him. She knew he wouldn't like that. He didn't want anyone to worry about him, and he hated it to be a burden.

The Letter 'I' that he wore with his necklace shone bright from under his cotton shirt. It floated on the air above him as his body slowly disputed into the air. When he was nowhere to be seen, the Letter disappeared.

The creature groaned loudly and Farra snapped her head toward it. The roots that held its legs together were being torn apart. Farra narrowed her eyes and stared at it with such hatred. It had killed her entire family, leaving her by her own.

"Enough of this foreplay." She spat. "I'm going to destroy you."

She started running fast around the creature who was still struggling with the ties. She threw all sorts of powers to it, aiming mainly at the neck or head. The creature let out a deadly scream and flung a hand to her. She wasn't fast enough to escape it, so she was thrown to the air. She fell back to the ground and rolled to her side slowly. She was stabbed by the talons that grew out of the massive hand and her body was battered by it and the fall.

The creature had finally released itself from the roots grip and now made its way to Farra. She didn't have much energy left, and she knew she have to end it now, or she would never get the chance to. For the continuation of Alphabet existence and for her members. For Hisham.

She struggled up and let her hands, that were putting some weight on her open wounds to stop the bleeding, fell to her sides. New set of tears leaked from the corner of her eyes as she raised her arms.  She closed her eyes and focused on all of the elements; her powers and Hisham's, Izzudin's clone, Aieyn's fire, Sheronica's healing gift. Her mind then went to each of the new member's powers, wind, sand, light, ice, plants, laser eyes, and even water.

Her necklace floated up as the Letter 'F' shone a blinding light. It soared up to into the air as Farra's vein started to pop out of her forehead, neck and arms. She screamed out, and a surge of light illuminating the entire fort, wiping out everything that was in its way.

Hisham was sitting with his back on the wall. His eyes closed as his mind wandered off to Farra, her beautiful dimples and soft black hair.

"Please keep your promise." She had said.

'I promise.' He thought. 'I will fulfill my promise, and I will wait for you no matter how long.'

Then they heard a deafening explosion. The ground shook harshly and Hisham sprang up from his seat, as do Noorizan as they both looked up.

"What was that?" Miezza whispered, her eyes widened in fear and she had her arms around Jyra. Jyra was comforting her just a while ago, but it seemed like the role was reversed.

"I'm not sure..." Noorizan trailed off, meeting Hisham's eyes. "You don't think..."

Hisham bit his bottom lip. Just then the wall slid open. Jyra gasped up and scrambled up to her feet, running outside.

"Jyra!" Miezza called and rushed to follow her, Hisham and Noorizan tailing her.

When they arrived outside, they were surprised. Apart from the stairs that led to upstairs and the Hidden Room, there was nothing left. No person, no hooded creatures, nothing, apart from the house ruins and trees that were pulled out from the ground, no doubt because of that explosion they felt a few minutes ago.

A sharp breath left Hisham's lungs as he processed the truth. Farra was gone. They were alone and he has made a promise. He ran to the front door, or what once was. When he reached the ground, he started digging under the ruins for something.

"What are you looking for?" Noorizan asked.

Miezza's eyes teared up. "Hisham, she's gone. Farra's-"

"I found it." She was interrupted by Hisham.

"What?" She asked.

"I found her necklace." He turned to his friends and showed them the silver chain that was dangling from between his fingers. There was a letter F on it, so no doubt it belonged to Farra.

"I thought the letters will disappear when the person dies?" Jyra said and Hisham nodded his head.

"Not hers. She's a Leader. So her Letter stays. She said we'll need this to gather the next generation of Alphabets."

"We?" Noorizan asked and Hisham nodded again.

"Does that mean..." Miezza said, a realisation dawned upon her and the others.

"Yes we are the next leaders. That's why she locked us down there. I bet the leaders knew about this and planned this all along."

"So they decided to spare us." Noorizan said, face deadpanned.

Hisham shook his head. "Save us, to guide the next Alphabets."

"Then should we start looking?" Jyra asked, looking at each of her friends faces.

"No, Farra said her necklace will emit light when the time comes."

"When there is another fight." Miezza stated.

"Exactly."

Jyra wrapped her arms around her torso, looking up to the clear blue sky. There's a new beginning, and they were now the leaders. "So what should we do now?"

Hisham took a deep breath and trailed his gaze up like Jyra.

"We live."
