SHIVERS
4 Years Later
'Mother!' She exclaimed, looking surprised to see her mother peep out of the window when she was bidding her male friend goodbye.
Daria had always been close to her mother, despite her sometimes out of age behaviour, she was tolerated by all her family members because she knew just when to turn the protective Mama Wolf role on.
But that did not make her spying on her youngest daughter alright, and thus Daria stood there scowling at the lady who had a non-apologetic look plastered on her face.
'What? A lady needs some entertainment Ri, I didn't carry you in my stomach for nine months for no reason.' She huffed.
'Mother! She gasped. 'You're so rude.'
'I may be darling, but haven't you heard about tough love?'
'I'm sure making a child doubt their existence doesn't come under tough love.' Daria said in a false sad tone, well aware that her mother was only joking, but Lisa was a sweet woman who couldn't see anybody's pain.
She was the pack healer and believed that it wasn't possible to yourself heal someone who you had hurt, and that they would find someone else to tend for their wounds.
'I'm sorry darling, I didn't mean that!' She wrapped a warm, soft hand around her daughters shoulder. 'But I do want to know who that handsome young man was, your friend, or maybe something mo-'
'You didn't recognise him?' She exclaimed excitedly, cutting off her mothers pointless implications.
Everyone knew that once a mate came along there was no pull stronger, you wouldn't be able to love anyone but him or her. When your eyes focuses on them, they would never become unfocused or rather they would stay fixated on them somehow for eternity. Daria believed in the concept of one true mate as much as the next wolf, there were some that claimed that a mate wasn't really needed for one to function, but the packs usually dubbed such people as crazy.
'No I did not.' Her mother smiled at her daughters glowing face.
'That was Christopher Murray.' Daria threw her arms up in the air, her mothers eyes lit up and she stood up from the chair that she had barely lowered herself into.
'Why, then we must call him home for dinner if he's in town, Raya would be excited to see her childhood best friend back from wherever he had disappeared.' Her noted mused over the thought, her mind already overdrive with the things she would attempt to cook for the guest.
'Or extremely angry.' Daria countered her mothers scenario as she shooed her away from the scene, not liking the negative opinion.
Her mother had unknowingly opened her mind link, at least to the whole family and she soon felt her older sisters rage.
'He is not welcome in my house, and he is not going to eat our food.' Raya projected through the mind link almost instantly and Daria blocked it off so that she didn't have to hear all the yelling going on.
She left the room quietly looked at the glowing dials of the alarm clock that stood in a stark contrast from the area it was placed in. It was too late to go to Alan's place, so she would have to settle with the popcorn her mother had made and a nice romantic comedy that would make her cry.
She settled onto the bed and soon after her eyes started to feel heavy with sleep, she felt a familiar chill run up her spine. She felt like she was being watched by someone, but she wasn't sure whether the feeling was alright or not. It didn't give her the call of warning, but one of caution.
Unsteady, unpredictable and possibly dangerous. But that was what her human side could feel, her wolves feelings were clearer, they too said caution, but her happy hormones were running high.
'Mate.' Was the first thought thay popped into her mind, but she didn't understand, if he was near by why would he hide? It was probably someone else, someone who had no connection with her. But then why did she feel like she was being stalked.
As she sat drowning in her own thoughts, she heard her sisters voice shout loudly, and this time it couldn't be blocked off.
'-absolutely not call him over.' Daria heard her sister stubbornly say as she reached the dining room where the scene was happening in the pretense of taking an apple, but in reality she just wanted to see the drama unfold.
'But he is your friend!' Her mother countered.
'He was my friend, past tense, it's over and done with.'
'Raya.' Her mother warned.
'What?'
'That's not the way to talk to your mother.' Her father said, emerging from behind the door with a newspaper tucked under his hands. Raya rolled her eyes.
That was a very bad move from Raya, because a male wolf never tolerated disrespect of his other half.
'Up to your room Raya, I won't tolerate an ounce of disrespect towards your mother. Leave.' He said curtly, anger bunking under the surface. Daria's sister didn't argue and ran upto her room with her younger sibling running close behind.
'Raya, open the door.' She could hear soft sniffles from the other side and knew the reason well enough. Christopher, Chris Murray was someone her sister adored to the moon and back, but his and his families departure had flung Raya into a depression. The reaction was strong and thus had made her mother believe that they were mates, and his close proximity to her followed by a wide difference made her yearn for him like never before.
He wasn't there to comfort her, so she tried to forget him. But a naturally emotional girl could only be so successful.
The door unlocked and Raya pulled her into the room, hugging her tightly.
'I can't see Christopher.'
'I know.' Daria patted her older sisters hair slowly. 'Apart from the fact that he left is there any other reason?' She asked, just for courtesy sake, for in a moment of emotions her sister had told her what she had guessed.
'I fear that he may be my mate.' She confessed. And that reason, Daria thought, was understandable. Her sister was one of the so called "crazies" who didn't believe in the depth of the mate bond, and now she knew the reason.
Her sister always knew who he was.
'You can't always hide Pie, he already knows, I could see it in his eyes.'
'I don't know why you spoke to him, I could make you pay me a fee for treachery.' Raya narrowed her eyes towards her dark haired sister.
'What could I do, ignore him flat out when he could possibly be the future love of your life?' Daria rolled her eyes.
'Yes, you could have done that, you are my sister after all.'
'And his future sister-in-law.' Raya flicked her index finger on her sister nose and fell back onto the bed, covering her body with a thin blanket.
'Go away.' Her muffled voice ordered.
'I'm leaving, goodnight Pie.' She closed the door as soon as she switched the light off. A cold wind blew through the open windows and Daria caught a strange scent, a fairly appealing one that made her mouth water and her heart beat quicken.
She shivered slightly, her body reacting to the changed environment.
It was strange.
