Chapter 28
Octavia's pov
It's been an entire day of Alyja's death. We haven't been able to arrange anything for a burial due to alpha Luka not letting us anywhere near his mate. Since a day ago, that horrible night of when the goddess of ice passed.
None of us have seen her. Immediately, after Luka grabbed his mate, he left with her. Adamaris and I were too terrified to go after him for her body due to him still being in his lycan form.
As soon as Athena woke from her sleep Octavia casted on her. She burned the entire place down not being able to control her anger. We were forced to call the only person that can control her, alpha Lysias. Once he came, we informed him of everything and he took it from there taking the goddess of fire away. However, I know she's going to be back for her sister's body which has me cringing at the thought knowing she will try to avenge Alyja's death.
In her mind, Luka killed Alyja when it was the the curse of the lycan that truly did.
"We need to bury Alyja properly," Adamaris says frustratingly. I can tell she hasn't slept whatsoever. I know the death of Alyja is hurting her deeply than what she'll admit. After all, she saw those two she-wolves grow while I watched from afar. If anything, she sees them as her own.
"We failed Azra twice," I sigh completely disappointed by having to go through this again . We really tried to protect and guide Azra's descendants just like how she made us promise her we would, but as you know things really went dark.
"Both were out of our control. Now I know why I was never able to have children of my own. I'm such a sucky protector," Adamaris voice cracks as she suddenly grabs a glass cup slamming it against the wall completely shattering it.
"Don't say that Adamaris, those two she-wolves love you. I see the way they look at you," I say comforting her. "My little she-wolf is dead. We stood there and I did nothing. We fucking watched as she was killed," Adamaris sniffles completely breaking down, "She was so kind and pure. Always a believer in love and for what? I fed her all those mate stories just so she can be killed by her own mate?," she adds.
As much as I don't want to talk badly about Moon. I'm lost in thought not knowing what this whole reasoning could be. Why did Alyja have to have such a fate like this? Why show Luka his cure? Why destine them to meet? If this was the result for both?
"GET DOWN HERE MOON! WE NEED AN EXPLANATION!," Adamaris screeches as she lets it all out no longer wanting to hold back her tears and pain. Seeing the pain she's going through weakens my heart and I too am now a crying mess. Alyja didn't deserve this at all. That she-wolf was the purest soul I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. The way she adored her mate regardless of the obstacles thrown at her reminded me so much of myself.
"We must get her body for the burial one way or another," I breathe knowing this is what is right to do for the goddess of ice.
Even if Luka is against it.
Lysias pov
After getting the call about the tragedy regarding Alyja's death, I knew things were going to be bad. Athena has taken the death of her little sister badly. Her anger has been out of control and she doesn't want to talk to anyone not even me. The only soul she wants next to her is Legion.
My mate is already wanting to start a war against Luka's empire for the murder of her sister which I understand, but this isn't the way. I love vengeance don't get me wrong, but in this situation declaring a war isn't right. Luka wasn't the one who killed Alyja. If anything, his mother should be trialed for her sins and crime which I'm sure Josiah is very aware of by now. I can already sense his presence coming to Luka's snowy empire in search for her which no one knows where she's hiding.
Great, can't wait for that confrontation.
I'm currently arriving at Luka's place to check up on him and ask for the Alyja's body. I know it's only a matter of time when Athena wants to come and demand her sister's body to bury her next to their parents. Athena versus Luka that isn't going to go well especially when he's still shifting at midnight. This is why I'm here to get this done to avoid anymore tragedies from occurring.
I ring the door bell twice waiting for some type of noise which I don't hear none. I decide to ring it two more times and nothing happens.
"Open up Luka, I know you're in there," I say out loud knocking on the door harshly.
"GO AWAY!," Luka shouts from inside which only causes me to roll my eyes. I tried to be patient and polite, but of course I'm always tested which I always fail. I knock down the door detaching it from its hinges with my foot waiting for the door to slam down on the ground, so I can pass through.
There sits a bloody Luka looking like such a complete mess on the couch staring at his fireplace as if he's waiting on someone to arrive. Who it may be, I have no clue. However, the blood dripping down his right nostril is fresh meaning this just happened.
"You look like complete shit," I bluntly say.
"You will pay for that door now get the fuck out," Luka grunts annoyedly not bothering to glance at me. I have never seen him this way not that we were ever close or anything, but for as longest I've known him. He has never cared for anything nor anyone always being a lone wolf with such a cold persona which I can relate to when it comes to that characteristic. However, I've always had Jazper and Asriel by my side when my parents were murdered by Odysseus.
As for Luka, I cannot say the same. Alyja was really his world.
"I'm sorry for your loss Luka. It must be hard-"
"I do not want your sympathy Lysias. I don't deserve it. After all, I was the one who killed my own mate," he grits his teeth.
"It wasn't you that killed her. It was the lycan-"
"False it was me. Do you know how I know?," he scoffs turning around to face me.
"Luka-"
"I heard her say she loves me forever before the fucking beast swung at her. I tried to stop it all from happening, but it was too late, for the damaged was already done," his voice cracks in pain which he quickly disguises it with anger.
"I'm sorry, I know whatever I say won't change a thing for you, but I must take her body for Athena to prepare her burial," I lowly say feeling bad for him. Mates are our weakness. If something ever were to happen to Athena, I would go crazy.
Demise is the only route for the surviving mate.
"No, she's staying with me," Luka responds.
"You know it's the right thing to do for Alyja. She must be buried whether you like it or not."
"She's my mate... Mine, I decide what happens to her. Now get the fuck out of my empire," Luka clenches his jaw standing up firmly all defensively.
"You two get out too!," he adds pointing passed me. I turn around seeing Adamaris and Octavia standing by the door frame. "Alpha, we mean no disrespect, but Alyja must be buried as the goddess she was. Please, hand her over to us," Adamaris utters.
"No," Luka spat.
Did Luka really lose his mind? Where could he possibly have the she-wolf at? Is he planning to keep her with him forever like that?
"You have no right over her," another very familiar voice utters from behind Adamaris and Octavia that has every hair of mine sticking up.
This she-wolf never listens, I swear.
"She's my sister, so I get to decide what happens to her body," Athena flatly says as she steps inside fully passing by Adamaris and Octavia that keep glancing between her and Luka knowing this confrontation won't be a good one.
"What are you doing here? What did I tell you?!," I clench my jaw. "When it comes to my only sister I once had," she seethes through her teeth glaring at Luka before continuing, "I will go above and beyond to get her body and give her a proper burial only a sister can provide for another. You know someone that truly loved her."
"I FUCKING LOVE HER ATHENA! YOU HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE ON HOW I FEEL ABOUT ALL OF THIS!," Luka growls.
"I DON'T CARE HOW YOU FEEL. YOU KILLED HER!," Athena grits her teeth.
"THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS AFRAID OF. THIS IS WHY I FUCKING TRIED SO HARD TO PUSH HER AWAY!"
Athena's pov
I can feel my anger rise within me wanting to burn Luka. He's here well and alive while my sister that deserved the world is dead all because of him. Suddenly, before I could retort a loud thud is heard on top of the roof getting all of our attentions then suddenly, a beam of light blinds us all.
Once the beam of light fades away. We all come face to face with this white-grayish eyed wolf whom has silver hair that's tied into a man bun. I have no idea who this being could be nor why he is here. "Who are you?," I decide to utter wanting to get to the bottom of this.
"It's about damn time!," Luka grumbles.
"I've heard all of your prayers even yours Athena," he causally says his tone sounding soothing, patient, and with clarity of pure wisdom. For some reason, I feel at ease by him which is oddly odd for me. Then it hits me, "What do you mean? How do you know I've prayed?"
"He's the Moon God," Lysias responds leaving me completely baffled by his answer. I've always thought the Moon was a goddess not a god.
"I want an explanation Moon! Why?," Octavia grunts breaking everyone's thoughts.
"I may destine everyone's fates, but there are other immortals out there that bend these fates as well," Moon explains.
"Who bent Alyja's fate?," I ask wanting to avenge my baby sister. All I feel is such uncontrollable anger and hate. This is something I've always struggled with, but it's much worse now that I've lost my best friend.
"Ever heard of Wicked?," Moon raises a brow at me.
"What's worser than Odysseus?," I mutter rolling my eyes.
"He is nothing compared to this immortal. In matter of fact, he's most likely his slave as we speak," Moon lets out a small chuckle as if my response was the most naive remark he's ever heard.
"What did Wicked have to do with my mate's fate?," Luka lowly growls clenching his fists tightly.
"Alyja is very powerful and is a great example of a pure humble soul. A true leader at that, no offense to you fire goddess... Enough to threaten an immortal as you can see."
"No offense taken. However, I still do not understand. Why would this so called Wicked want my sister dead?," I crease my brows still confused on the cause of demise. Luka grunts as he clenches his jaw.
"I cannot disclose that type of information, for I still have no knowledge of it"
Luka's pov
"Enough with wasting anymore time. Do what I summoned you here to do Moon," I hastily say to Moon as I glare at him. I've been waiting an entire day for this asshole to finally arrive and all of these questions are just postponing the process.
"Summoned?," Octavia mumbles confusedly.
"This is a matter that's between Moon and I. You all have to step out," I bluntly say not wanting no one to intervene in the deal Moon has proposed.
"I have a right to know," Athena says unhappily. However, Lysias grabs her arm signaling her to step out which surprisingly she does. Right after them Octavia and Adamaris do the same. Just as Adamaris was about to fully step out she comes to a sudden halt turning around to face me then a soft smile appears as she turns around proceeding to step out leaving Moon and I alone.
"Are you sure you want this deal?," Moon raises a brow observingly.
I take a moment to think about what he proposed earlier when I summoned him the first time after crying the entire day trying to stop myself from going crazy.
All I could think about is her angelic face that one time I saw her for the very first time when I saw her through Moon's vision. Her blue-silvery eyes captured my heart instantly without even trying. I remember thinking in that moment how can Moon pair me up with someone so innocent, kind, pure, and loving. She doesn't deserve to have a mate such as myself; selfish, cruel, uncontrollable, and overall a sinner.
She deserved better. Much better.
However, the mate bond is a curse. A beautiful curse, one I would never complain about. Deep down, I wanted her so bad. From the very first time I met her to having her so close under the same roof I felt so many emotions I've never felt before in my life. She made me feel things I still cannot describe even if I tried. All I can say is that she gave light in my world of pure darkness.
However, I'm the opposite of what she offers me. I'm the darkness in her light world. Due to this lycan curse, I tried numerous times to push her away knowing I'm only a danger to her which unfortunately I was right the entire time, but Alyja being herself, she never cared. Her love was real and unconditional and that cost her, her life. I'll never forget those four words that continue to haunt me the more she isn't here with me. Just like she never gave up on me, I will not either. Moon knows, I can't live without her. I need her with me.
So I must do what must be done.
"Yes"
"Your wish is my command"
Octavia's pov
We're all waiting outside unsure of what to think of this all. What is going on between alpha Luka and Moon? The curiosity is really starting to get to me. Athena is arguing with Lysias, I'm unsure about what exactly due to my hearing being not the best like it used to be due to old age. However, I am sure it's about where Luka has Alyja's body hidden. No one knows besides him and by the looks of it.
We might just never know.
I can't help, but notice how calm Adamaris is since we stepped out. This is so odd, not too long ago, she was crumbling apart wanting to get Alyja's body urgently, but now it's as if she's completely relaxed no worries whatsoever. I'm sure this isn't normal for someone whom is mourning the death of a beloved one.
We all break away focusing on one being that made his presence known as he clears his throat getting all our full attention.
"What is going on Luka?," Athena immediately rushes towards him no longer being able to remain in the dark.
"It's a done deal isn't?," Adamaris utters completely catching us off guard. "Deal?," Lysias murmurs confusedly. I also couldn't dismiss Luka looking much more hopeful than how he was earlier. Something has changed in just minutes, but what?
Luka nods agreeing with Adamaris which causes a huge smile on her face.
What is going on here?
Luka takes in a deep breathe before exhaling lingering on a thought before he announces to us what we never thought we would hear. After all of these years, I have never witnessed such a thing. Either this is wrong or I am extremely old into a generation that has advanced so much since my time.
However, the next words that slip out of his lips brings great joy to our hearts especially Athena who was the most effected by her sister's demise. I admit, my heart thumped from joy, but at the same time my mind questioned at what cost did it take to make this miracle happen?
"Alyja is being brought back from the dead"
