Chapter 7

I found myself walking down the path of the woods. My hands shook next to my side as my eyes darted side to side. Why do I want answers? Why do I want everything to work out in my favor? Why do I want my puzzle pieces in my brain to fall into place?

"Why? Why? Why?" I muttered to myself.

A moving figure caused me to jump. I looked over and saw someone running through the trees. I clenched my fist together. I may not know how to punch but I imagine my flight or fight instincts will kick in. I took one step back and saw Sumo walking out.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"I should be asking you the same thing!" Sumo explained. "Don't you this is where rogues run free?"

Yes.

"No." I lied.

He frowned, "What are you doing here, anyway? I didn't think you go in the woods."

I don't but I want answers. I need answers. Since, no one in this town wants to give me answers! Everyone wants to act like I can't know anything because it might hurt me. Or because that stupid Alpha, Joshua, doesn't want to them to talk!

How is that any fair!

I took a seat on the fallen tree trunk. Sumo stood across from with his eyebrow raised. I sighed as I brushed back my brown hair. I waited for him to say something but instead he is looking at me. His eyes didn't leave my face. I couldn't help but stare back into his intense green eyes.

"You barely know this area and yet you still walk in the woods?" Sumo asked with a smile.

"I needed . . . some fresh air?" I tried to say.

He laughed, "You're not that smart are you?"

"Of course I am! I just wanted to walk around."

Sumo smirked as he leaned down. Our noses brushed against each other. His blonde mohawk, that is down, brushed against my forehead. I shuddered from our sudden closeness. His cool breathe blew across my face. It seems like mint making me lean in closer. His scent smells like burning wood, and I like it.

I can feel his body heat coming off in waves. The cool crisp air that once surrounded me now all I can feel is warmth. Sumo's intense green eyes almost blends in with the trees behind him. The only thing that is separates his eyes from the background is his tan skin, breaking the background.

"Do you want to see something cool?" Sumo asked.

"What do you mean?" I replied.

"I want to show you something, Jeffrey, but you need to trust me."

"That's a big thing. Trust."

He smiled, "Call it our first step for our friendship then."

"Okay." I whispered.

Sumo pulled away from me. The cool crisp air surrounded around me again. I wrapped my arms around my body as he jogged a couple steps backwards. From my own eyes I watched him shift into a large wolf. My eyes widen but I stood up.

He lowered his front side. I looked at him with my eyebrow raised. What does he want? Sumo looked at me from his large eyes then rolled them. He nodded his head to his back. He wants to climb on his back?! I shook my head.

"No way." I said.

Sumo grunted. I looked around me trying to see if there if anyone else hiding. I walked over on his left side and grabbed the fur around his neck. Sumo shook his head to the side like a dog just got out the water. I pulled myself up and wrapped my legs around his stomach area. Sumo braced himself to run forward.

My legs tighten around him as Sumo ran forward. I leaned down so the wind wouldn't make me freeze to death. His body warmth kept me warm. My legs could feel his muscles moving with every step.

Trees blurred by. Forming different shades of green, browns and yellows and oranges flew past us. Then Sumo stopped. I pulled my face away from his neck and looked around. The sun is resting along the tree lines. I could see the moon from one side slowly rising.

"Woah." I mumbled.

I slide off of his back. My eyes stared at the sunset. Sumo chuckled as he stood next to me. I looked over and notice him shuffling his hair around. After a while, he took a seat on the grass and patted the ground next to me. I took the seat. I pulled my knees to my chest and stared out into the sky.

The light yellows, oranges, pinks and blues all mixed together. I smiled by seeing the color purple. Sumo's body warmth acted like a blanket around me.

"Pretty, isn't?" Sumo asked.

I nodded.

I turned to look over at him and caught him staring at me. How long has he been looking at me? Did he mean the comment towards me? My face turn bright red.

"How did you find this place?" I asked him.

Sumo sighed, "On a run. I was trying to get away from the Devil himself, our Alpha, and stumbled on this place. It made me feel relaxed."

"The sunset is beautiful."

"I guess."

I raised my eyebrow, "What do you mean you guess?"

Sumo laughed, "'Cause I find something more beautiful."

"What?"

"Something."

I looked back at him. He is smiling at me. His hair is blowing with the slight breeze. For a brief a moment, I thought that the sunset wasn't so beautiful. Sumo seems to beat the whole sunset. I could look at him for hours and hours. I could look at him for so long that I don't want to eat, sleep, drink or do anything with my life.

"What is your favorite color?" Sumo asked.

"Purple, yours?" I replied.

Sumo shook his head, "You can ask questions later. Right now, I'm the only one asking."

I raised my eyebrow towards him. Is that even considered fair?

"Why is purple your favorite color?"

"I dunno. It's cool color and it's always pretty with different shades."

"Do you feel strange with two moms?"

I shook my head, "No. They are like any other parents. Caring, loving, strict and parent like."

"Favorite movie?"

"I don't really watch T.V. that much. Not my thing."

"Hm. What about favorite book?"

"To many. I love them all. Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, anything by H.P Lovecraft."

Sumo smiled, "Favorite music?"

"Classical."

"Seriously?"

"Of course I am, Sumo. I would never lie about classical music."

He laughed, "Well, then. Favorite moment in your life?"

I looked towards the sunset, "Honestly? This moment right now."

Sumo blinked from the corner of my eye. I turn back to look at him and waited him to say something instead a smile played across his lips. He leaned forward to me allowing my heart to race from our sudden closeness.

"How come?" Sumo whispered.

I shrugged, "I'm not sure. All I know is, that in this moment, right now, that it's my favorite."

"Mine too."
