Chapter 6
I stood there in front of my house. My legs are shaking from the shock of today. Sumo is a wolf. He's a person who shifts into a wolf. Sumo is a werewolf. He won't tell me why I feel drawn to him because he can't? But if I want answers then I need to find a rogue wolf.
Then no to mention, the giant white wolf who wanted/wants to kill me!
How is this even real? How does this town even exists? How do people shift into wolves? How do rogue wolves even exists? Why is any of this real? Why can't any of this be a dream? 'Cause this sounds, feels and hears like a dream.
"Are you okay?" Sumo asked.
His sudden voice made me jump. I turned around to look at him. I looked behind him and saw no car, motorbike, or even a skateboard. Did he run here as a wolf? Or as human does he have super human speed? Is Sumo also half vampire?
"Don't do that!" I exclaimed.
"Sorry, I was worried." Sumo said as he put his hands up in surrender.
"Worried?"
"You look like you were going to throw up, Jeffrey. I had to come and check up on you."
"Had too?"
"Are you just going to question everything I say?"
"Yes."
He smiled, "Of course you will."
"How did you even get here?"
"I ran."
I crossed my arms over my chest, "As?"
"As a wolf. Did you forget I could do that?"
"I was hoping it was a dream, Sumo."
"Nope! It's real. I'm a big, giant, large, wolf who can run far distances. Also shifting back into my human form. It happens."
"And how are you so calm about this?"
He laughed, "'Cause I always knew I was a wolf. Since I was a little baby."
I walked over to my porch steps. I need to sit down. If I don't then I would fall on my face. I plopped down on the stairs and looked over at him. Sumo just leaned against my porch railing. He waited for me to say something but the problem is . . . I can't.
Nothing is coming to my mind. My mind feels like jumble puzzle pieces. As if someone came through, tossed the table in the air and mixing the perfect puzzle in my head. That what it feels like at this moment.
Sumo didn't try to rush me. He just stood there staring at me with his intense green eyes. I counted for two minutes before he blinked for the first time. Once his eyes closed, I wanted them to open them myself. I need to see those intense green eyes.
I brushed back my brown hair with my fingers. Sumo eyes drifted to my hands. For a split second his face crossed with worry then calm down. His face went back to his relax face. Playful green eyes, crooked smile and shoulders dropped.
"What are you? Like, what do you call yourself?" I asked.
"Usually, Sumo but if you're talking about the whole wolf thing. Then we call ourselves werewolves. The gene is passed down from Native American blood." He said.
"You're Native American?"
"Kinda, I'm one-eighth. My great grandmother, MiFaunwy, was a full blooded Otoe Missouria."
"So, the wolf gene? Does it goes to everyone? Can everyone shift into wolves?"
"Nope. It only happens to few people," He said as he took a seat next to me. "And it's not always wolves. Some tribes shift into bears, seals, coyotes, foxes or buffalos. Just whatever that tribe thinks is better for them. Ours prefers wolves."
"And the whole Alpha, Omega and Beta thing. Is that real also?"
"Yes, as you saw the giant white wolf. He's the Alpha, I'm Beta. And our Omega is the lowest rank you can get. No one wants that rank."
"So, it's exactly like animals?"
Sumo nodded, "Exactly. But our pack is all wrong."
"What do you mean?"
"My great grandmother told me that the pack protects the tribe. It's Alpha's job to stand in the front and willingly to throw their life down for the tribe. Ours is a big headed jerk who doesn't deserve the rank they have."
"Throw their life down? If you were Alpha, you would have to do the same?"
Sumo nodded. A small inhuman noise came from throat. Sumo looked over at me with a small smile. He bumped our shoulders together. I looked back at him with my heart pounding.
Why is my heart pounding? Why am I so worried if he does lay down his life? It would Sumo's choice not mine. Still, I can't help but me worried and scared. I'm scared of losing him. Which is odd because I just met him not to long ago.
Then I just found out he's a wolf so it doesn't matter.
"Why aren't you Alpha?" I asked.
He sighed, "Usually, you have to fight for the position or you're blood line traces back to the chief of the tribe. Ours is sadly the last living person of our old chief."
"Then why do you look like a larger wolf then him?"
"I'm the Beta. I'm the protector of the Alpha. It sucks because I want to rip off his head."
"How do you become the Beta?"
"The Alpha picks his. Ours picked me because he knew that I didn't like him. Since I'm the Beta, I can't hurt him. He's smart and stupid and annoying and just . . . a boggart!"
Sumo leaned back to lay on the porch. His hands are put behind his head. I looked down to him with my eyebrow raised. I pressed my lips together. Sumo looks so calm about this. I imagine he would, after all he lived this with all his life.
But how am I so calm about this? How can I be like nothing surprises me? How can I ask questions like this? I don't understand this at all. The puzzle pieces in my brain are becoming more jumbled up by thinking about this.
Yet, I'm so calm about this. Why am I so calm about this? I need answers. I want answers. I want and need the puzzle pieces in my head to come back together again.
"Are you scared?" Sumo asked.
I shook my head.
"Are you going to run away from me?"
Again, I shook my head.
"Are you going to ignore me?"
Once again, I shook my head.
"Are you calm about this?"
"Yes." I finally said.
"Good."
"How is that good?"
"It means we get to spend more time with each other."
