Chapter 15
"This seems dangerously stupid," I said.
"No, it's not. I will catch you, Jeffrey." Sumo said, laughing.
"Yeah, that is not making me feel better."
He laughed again.
I looked down holding onto the branch. Sumo had his arms opened with that stupid smirk of his. I took in a deep breath. I don't know how I got here but I did.
Not even two days ago I talked to Kimby and faced a whole pack of rogue wolves who looked like they wanted to kill. But I can even face the feat of jumping out of the tree. Gosh, I'm pathetic. Sumo said he wanted to have fun and wanted to show me. So, we have been going around town doing the scariest things ever.
I looked back down. Sumo didn't move or seemed annoyed that I have been here for three full hours. I covered my eyes with a hand. Maybe if I don't see it then it won't scare me as much. Then I took one step forward causing it to dangle in the air.
"I change my mind!" I shouted but it was too late.
My body weight shifted forward. 'Causing my heart to have a mini heart attack. A scream left my mouth. I expected to fall and become a big pool of goop but I landed into a pair of arms. I know there Sumo's. I know that. Yet, I can't take my hands off my eyes. I think I'm still having a mini heart attack right now.
Sumo pulled me closer to him. He held me with one arm then used his other hand to take off my hand. I looked at him with wide eyes. He gave me a small warm smile. I fell back finally calming my heart down.
"Please, no more daring stunts like that," I begged.
"Well, I thought it was fine. Your seems to be calming down." Sumo said.
"I thought I was going to die."
"And I would never let that happen."
"My legs feel very light."
"Should I go get you something to eat?"
"I think I died."
"You didn't, Jeffrey."
I grabbed a free hand and put against my chest. His eyes widen from the movement but didn't pull back his hand.
"Can you still feel my heart slamming against my chest?" I asked him.
"Here I thought it was because how close we are together."
I rolled my eyes. Sumo laughed as he allowed me to stand on my own two feet. I brushed back my hair. My heart slowly calmed down. Sumo leads me to the park bench so we can sit down. I imagine standing for three hours must be tiring.
Sumo leaned in the back of the wooden bench. I looked over at him. His right leg is bouncing up and down. His blonde Mohawk laid back from his head hanging over the bench. His arms were laid out behind me. Even though we aren't that close, his body warmth is covering me like a blanket.
"Are you okay, Jeffrey?" Sumo asked.
"Yeah. Just taking a moment to breathe." I said.
Sumo frowned, "I didn't scare you too bad now did I?"
"No."
He looked at me.
"You didn't scare me. That tree did, Sumo."
"How very rude of that tree."
"Now you are mocking me."
"I'm not."
I sighed, "You are."
"Okay. Just a little bit."
I smiled. Sumo laughed. He looked over at me with his smile. I rolled my eyes. I got off the bench holding out my hands. Sumo took them with confusion. I pulled him to his feet. He got up with ease and moved closer to me.
"Look at that, you have muscles," Sumo said.
"How rude," I said.
"I would never be rude to you, Jeffrey. I will always tell you the truth."
"The truth?"
"Yes."
"Always?"
"Where are you going with this?"
"Nowhere."
He snorted, "Please, I know that look."
"That look?"
Sumo raised his hand to trace my features. My breath hitched from his slight touch. Sumo stared into my eyes. His finger ran along my nose. He smiled at my reaction. I imagine he can hear my heartbeat beating faster with each passing minute.
He allowed his hand to drop from my face. I took his hand lacing it with mine. Sumo raised his eyebrow looking confused by my sudden reaction. He didn't pull his hand away from me.
"Why do you keep acting surprise when I take your hand?" I asked.
"I'm still shell shocked that you're real." Sumo replied.
"Real?"
"Yes, real. Believe it or not, I never thought I would meet you. You took a very long time to get here."
"Well, I'm sorry. My Mom didn't find this place till last year."
"I'm still shaming you. Making me wait for seventeen years."
"Please, you managed."
"Yeah," He sighed. "I don't know how. I lived for years without your bossiness, you excessive book reading, your perfectly cleaned room. How did I live without that?"
"It sounds like you are mocking me."
He pressed our forehead together, "Never."
I smiled as I closed my eyes. I used my free hand to bring him closer to me. Then I pressed our lips together. Sumo kissed me back without a second thought. I took away my hand from his to wrap my arms around his neck. Sumo took hold of my hips.
I couldn't help but agree with him. How did I live for seventeen years without him? His intense green eyes, his ruggedness, and his messiness. How did I live without his body warmth covering me like a blanket? How did I live without arms holding me, reassuring everything will be alright?
We pulled apart from each other. Our foreheads are still pressed against each other. His hand trailed along my spine. I let out a small gasp because it feels very nice. Without thinking, I pulled him back for another kiss.
I may have lived for seventeen years without him but I intend to make those up.
