Chapter vi

Lilith had a blood-stained dress that smelled like rogues. That's what Devon noticed as he looked at her uneasy face.

"What are you doing here?" Devon asked.

Seeming confused and tired, Lilith trembled. "I had a foresight through my dreams," Lilith revealed. "During the dream, I caught a glimpse of what is to come. The pack will be visited by the council in a matter of days, and I will once again be taken captive by them. Feeling desperate, I made a daring escape. As I ran away, a group of rogues began to pursue me. Tired and drained, I just lost consciousness after that," she narrated.

Devon's tone was icy as he reminded, "You should have been aware that this mountain is filled with disgusting rogues." He tilted his head and pointed his fingers at her. "A hybrid like you would be a perfect prey for them."

Lilith just looked down. Although she can't see Devon's face, she can feel his deep gaze piercing through her. "T—this is the safest place I—I could think of, as this isn't part of the council's route, according to my dream," she sighed, but then froze, seeing the blood on Devon's arms.

Devon quickly noticed and wiped the blood off his arms. The closing of his wound didn't escape Lilith's sight. She blinked as she was sure he had a wound in there just awhile ago, but now it's gone. It brought her confusion as she's aware that the beings in this world had no regeneration abilities.

'Am I hallucinating?' She asked in the back of her mind.

Devon's tone was unpleasant as he grasped her arms. "Then you should've informed the me or the Alpha as you're still under observation."

"P—Please don't take me back yet," Lilith pleaded. "What happens to my dreams comes true and if I go back in there, the councils would surely sense me!"

Devon stared at her for a moment, as if he's considering her plea. "How would I know if your foresight is right?" He asked.

Lilith mustered her courage and looked at him directly. "Tomorrow, at sunset, the council members will pay a visit to request a meeting with the Alpha. According to my foresight, one of them would sense me and they'll start distracting everyone to capture me. The last thing I wanted is to go back into that hellish place, so please don't take me back yet, Devon!" she exclaimed. "Please. . . I don't want to go back into that hell," she begged even more.

Devon just stared at her. "What would I gain from helping you?" He asked coldly, making Lilith halt.

She felt hopeless and she's aware she have nothing to offer. "I—I'll do anything you want, just please help me now," she continued convincing him.

Devon emitted a noise of disapproval. "I am in no need of a slave, woman, if that's where you're going to. However, you can help me with something in return for my favor."

"What is it?" She asked nervously. "Anything, Ghost, just help me," she added in a determined tone.

Devon just let out a sexy chuckle and shook his head. "You'd be exploited if you say that to someone else,"

Lilith just looked down. "I'm desperate, okay?"

"I know," Devon said frigidly. "I'll protect you every time the Lunar council tries to harm you, Lilith. I will hide you that they wouldn't even find a trace, but in only one condition," he offered, making Lilith gulp, anticipating the next thing he'll say.

"All I wanted to know was your dreams about the future; your foresights. Every time you dream about the near future, I want to know all the details and everything you see. That is the only thing I am asking of you. Nothing more and nothing less," he voiced out.

Even if the mask he was wearing didn't have any holes, Lilith could feel how cold his gaze was while saying his condition.

"Why?" Lilith asked.

"Do I need to explain myself? You're the one who needs my help here aren't you?" He shrugged, snapping his fingers in front of her face.

Lilith was kind of annoyed with his sassyness but couldn't voice it out as she's aware that this man could easily kill her if he wanted to.

"Fine," Lilith sighed. "I'll do it."

"That's what I thought," Devon chuckled coldly, then suddenly carried Lilith like a sack of rice, making her squeal out of shock.

"Stop squealing, Princess. You're breaking my ears," he said mockingly. Lilith couldn't help but just pray silently as Devon is running in a speed of light.

Devon ran so fast that she felt like they had teleported to where they are now.

"Close your eyes or else I'll leave you here," he threatened.

Lilith gasped, seeing that they're on top of a tall and narrow cliff.

The last thing she saw before closing her eyes is how Devon jumped into the cliff with her, she almost passed out.

In a matter of seconds, she felt how they landed gently into a solid ground.

"Wake up," Devon hissed and just dropped her, earning a gasp from Lilith.

"H—how?" Lilith asked in confusion.

Just a second ago, they were up in the air, falling into the abyss below that cliff, now they're in a completely different place.

It's a radiant forest with the tallest tree he's ever seen in the middle of it. Lilith could feel that the place was filled with elements and spirits that seemed to like Devon as they're flocking on to him.

"Where are we?" Lilith asked while tailing him.

"You wouldn't even know even if I tell you," he shrugged as he continued walking.

Lilith gasped when Devon just casually walked into that big tree and disappeared. As she blinked, she approached and reached out to touch it. Suddenly, she gasped in shock when she noticed her hand disappearing upon contact with the tree, almost like it was a mysterious gateway.

"Come in before I change my mind," Devon hissed, inside.

Hesitating, Lilith took a deep breath and walked towards the tree. Her eyes widened, seeing a completely different place behind it—a grand mansion.

"How? Aren't you a wolf?" Lilith asked.

"I am," Devon responded, nonchalantly.

Lilith has so many questions, but she doesn't want to meddle too much as Devon might lose his patience.

"No one could find you here," he declared. "I'll take you back once I made sure the Lunar council left."

Lilith somehow felt relieved as she continued following him around the place, afraid that she'd get lost.

As they continued walking, Lilith was amazed when they reached a huge library. "I've never seen this muh books!" She commented.

"It's not much compared to Alpha Hendrix's collection, considering his old age," Devon shrugged.

"Really? How old is he?" Lilith asked.

"About millennium?" Devon answered, making her gasp.

"What?" She said, shocked.

"What is so shocking about it? Were not really immortals since we could still die, but as long as we don't, we wouldn't age," he explained.

"How about the Beta?" She asked.

"That asshole is also an old hag. He's about a thousand years old, raised by Alpha Hendrix himself. That's how he became the Beta," Devon answered as he just sat down to read a book.

"How about you? How old are you?" She asked him. She can feel that she's starting to annoy him, but he didn't seem to mind much.

"Still young," Devon again answered.

Lilith just nodded her head. "How about a mate? What is it?" Lilith asked again, while still searching for a book she could bury her nose into.

Devon just sighed in defeat. "Someone the moon goddess sent to be your other half, your fated one," he still answered on a bored tone.

"Do I have one?" Lilith asked.

Devon just shrugged as an answer.

"Do you have one?" She pressed on.

Devon didn't answer her this time.

"You know how to read?" Devon's turn to ask.

Lilith glanced at him and nodded. "I thought I don't, but somehow I remember how read even if I was detained for a long time," she answered when she finally found a book. "What is this about?" Lilith asked.

"History," Devon shrugged.

Lilith just nodded her head as she started reading through the pages of the book. It was a pretty interesting book, especially when she came across the history of Midnight Fangs.

Lilith read, "The pack known as Midnight Fangs has been the longest reigning over the werewolf territory. As a result of their favor with the goddess of the moon, they are deeply adored and valued. In addition, the Sun god, Lucian, who is Selene's other half, granted them the gift of sun's power. These two divine beings granted the first wolves immense strength to govern their domain. It was only after the first Alpha betrayed his connection to the moon goddess and chose a demon over his intended mate that he became the cruel ruler, known for mercilessly taking innocent lives at the request of his beloved," she continued then looked at Devon's direction.

"Books can be tampered, but not the memories of the beings who witnessed it," Devon pointed out, making Lilith nod her head.

Lilith gently ran her fingers through the book's inked letters and continued reading.

The entire pack of midnight fangs rejoiced and held a grand celebration at the long-awaited encounter with their Luna. The presence of the reigning alpha's Luna is ‌proof that the goddess Selene lifted the curse of his blood because of what his deceased father had done.

"Helga," Hendrix called her name as he held her waist.

She greeted him with a smile and planted a soft kiss on his lips.

Strangely, ‌Hendrix doesn't feel anything. Yet he's certain that Helga is his most-awaited mate as her scent drew him close to her, along with the same features he sees in his dreams.

"What's the matter?" She asked in a sweet tone while holding on to his arms.

The Alpha just looked at her and shook his head. "Nothing," he responded while looking at the pack members having fun, dancing around at the big celebration.

However, the joyful pack members all halted as they all sensed an unpleasant visitors lurking around.

"Alpha," Devon, the emperor's ghost suddenly appeared beside him with a sense of urgency. "Some of the Lunar council's officials are here," he reported in a frigid tone.

Alpha had a displeased expression as he heard Devon's report. "I don't want to waste my time on those insects," Alpha Hendrix said in a frigid tone.

"I'll go and kill them, then," Devon shrugged.

The Alpha was about to nod in agreement, when Luna Helga interrupted their conversation.

"I think, that's not a good idea," she smiled while drawing circles on the Alpha's arms.

"I'm not asking your opinion," Devon snarled, making the Alpha glare at him.

"Respect the Luna, Devon," he gritted his teeth.

"As I am not your subject, she is not my Luna, so I don't think I have any reason to play pretend" he shrugged.

"Then should I just kill you?" The Alpha threatened.

"Loosing me will cause you more lost than gain anyways," Devon let out a sexy chuckled. "You won't be able to find like me," he added.

Hendrix clenched his jaw in irritation. He's aware that what he said is true. He won't be able to find an ally as strong as Devon and is willing to wipe anyone in his path cleanly.

"Devon," he warned.

"Hendrix," Devon mimicked.

Hendrix gritted his teeth out of annoyance.

"Excuse me," Helga cleared her throat, making both of them look at her.

"I wanted to know why the councils are here," she said, then looked at Devon sharply. She doesn't like how he talks like everyone else around him is some kind of insect. He's even disrespectful around the reigning Alpha, and Hendrix just lets him.

"Probably to dig up their grave," he shrugged.

Helga just sighed, then looked at Hendrix pleadingly. Hendrix then signaled the warriors through a mind link.

She looked at Devon again to mock him, but he just vanished from where he's standing earlier, as if he's a mere apparition.

"Who is that guy? He's annoying," Helga frowned.

"Devon, Beta Aztect's cousin," Hendrix answered.

"Your Beta has no other relatives right?" She asked, confused.

"How did you know?" Hendrix asked.

"Your pack is quiet famous," ‌Luna shrugged.

Hendrix nodded at her response. "Beta is raised in this pack but his father had a younger brother in the fallen fifth kingdom. Devon is the only relative he had," he revealed while holding her hand.

It's really strange. . . His wolf isn't reacting at all when he is the first one who rejoiced the moment he felt their mate.

"Alpha Hendrix," the Lunar Council officials greeted him with a smile. Just by looking at them disgusts him.

"You'll cause a war if you kill them," Helga whispered while caressing his arm in a flirtatious manner.

"I'll win," he responded.

Helga's eyes sharpened at that.

"What brought you here, insects?" He asked frigidly as he felt their fear, their greed, their anger.

He had ‌calm composure, but he's filled with bloodlust, ready to pounce on anyone who dares to cause a ruckus. "If this is unimportant, I won't let you get away with it," he declared while looking at them as if they were mere bugs to be splatted on.

The council didn't like how the reigning Alpha is talking to them, but they're aware they wouldn't stand a chance against him.

"We just wanted to see the Luna of the Midnight fang—" the official's words were interrupted when he felt blood seeping on his cheeks.

The Alpha remained sitting on his chair with a frigid look on his face, intimidating the councils in front of him.

The situation was humiliating and they were filled with a burning desire to eliminate every single wolf in that pack. The group of wolves laughing at them from behind only added to their misery.

"If you keep this up, Alpha, you'll just collect more enemies," they threatened. They were utterly embarrassed as the pack members' taunts only fueled their anger.

"I collect corpses too," he said, unbothered about their threat. "Now leave," he snarled, frightening the councils.

The Lunar councils, took a step back, sensing that the Alpha was serious and could kill them at any moment. "We'll wait for your demise, Alpha Hendrix! Your end is getting near!" They declared, earning a cold-blooded laugh from Hendrix.

"Yeah, and I'll make sure to drag you in hell with me," he grinned.

The Lunar Council had no choice but to leave. Because if they don't, they wouldn't be able to make it out alive.
