Chapter 16

Zack woke up on the floor, well he assumed it was the floor with how hard and cold it was. Everything just looked sort of blurry grey and he couldn't make out any defined shapes to make a general guess at what he thought was going on around him. It smelled like old musty wood and sounded like something he would imagine on sort of a camping trip. Maybe a cabin in the woods with the big dogs they had roaming around. Something moved and he stilled as someone touched him.

"Oh, thank god your alive." Conor breathed as he hugged the boy on the floor. Zack relaxed under him, turning onto his back.

"Conor? Where are we? What do they want?" Zack asked him as he touched his face gingerly. He couldn't see him, but he could feel him. Conor frowned down at Zack as he stared blankly up at the celling. He had a bruise crawling up the side of his face where the woman had hit him and a cut along his eyebrow where he had hit the door frame.

"I don't know. It looks like we are in an abandoned cabin. It isn't very big, but there are a few dead animals and a couch." Conor told him as he helped Zack sit up. Zack nodded quietly keeping a hand on Conor's arm. He cleaned some of the leaves out of Zack's curly hair as the boy sat with his eyes closed.

"Are we going to die here?" Zack asked him as Conor stilled.

"I don't know. These are the creatures that killed my father. I don't know what they want with us." Conor told him as Zack's gripped tightened.

"Not us. You. They don't want me." Zack told him as Conor growled and hugged him. They both knew when the enemy figured that out, they would kill Zack.

"I don't give a shit what they want. I won't let them hurt you." Conor told him as Zack cried into his shoulder. He sniffled as Conor held him.

"If I don't make it, will you tell my father I'm sorry? When my mother died, I blamed him for it. I was afraid that I would lose him too and be truly alone. If I stayed away and kept my distance, maybe it wouldn't hurt so much. But I was wrong. It hurts more because I didn't... I didn't..." Zack sobbed as Conor held him quietly. How could their day have gone so poorly? Assuming it was the same day they were taken. He had finally held Ulrich in his arms again and now it was gone. Zack calmed down stiffening when he heard someone approaching. Conor frowned down at him confused.

"What's wrong?" Conor asked.

"Someone is coming." Zack told him as someone laughed.

"Close, someone is already here. What do we have? Two boys to choose from. Brothers perhaps? Twins that take after different parents? How interesting." Someone purred making Conor growl as he held Zack closer. The girl that spoke sat on top of the crumbling shelving in the corner. She had curly black hair that blended with her ebony colored skin.

"I wasn't talking about you." Zack told her as the door opened. The man Conor recognized walked in with another wolf at his heels.

"Sabina. How are they?" The man asked as the watcher climbed down off her perch.

"They are interesting. Neither of them have proven they are the pup, but the dark haired one shows promise. He heard you coming and no one hears you coming." She told him as he grunted.

"The full moon isn't for another night; I don't know if we can wait that long. But we can't take back the wrong one." He growled as he walked into the room. He stared down at the two boys as Conor growled back. He grabbed Zack pulling the boy to his feet away from Conor. Conor growled as the wolves surrounded him, keeping him on his knees. "Then perhaps we should divide and conquer. Sabina, take this one for a walk. We will keep watch over this one. Don't let him get away." He told her as she bowed and dragged the stumbling boy out of the cabin. He smelled of wolf and fear making Sabina sneeze.

"Stop struggling, and walk." She growled.

"I can't. This may be easy for you, but I can't see." Zack told her as he stumbled along. She paused as she looked at him frowning. He looked at her and frowned back. Mixed with the greens and greys of the forest, he could see her black silhouette. He reached out touching her hair surprised. "You are much smaller than you look." Zack told her as she growled.

"I thought you said you couldn't see." She told him as he sighed.

"I can see blobs of color. You and then everything else. I can't see where I am going or details like the shape and color of your eyes." Zack clarified. He had calmed down a little as he listened to the woods around them. He could hear groups of people talking quietly as dogs played together. Wolves was probably more accurate. She nodded her head and took his arm dragging him along. He stumbled as he went, but leaned on her for balance. "The others don't like you." Zack told her as she hesitated briefly.

"What makes you say that?" She asked as Zack sighed trying to decide if he should be honest.

"I can hear the others talking. They disagree with their alpha." Zack told her as she paused.

"Kalmar, that man who brought you here, is the packs alpha and my father. His mate is not my mother." She told him as Zack followed her farther from the cabin. He didn't understand what she meant by that, but knew from the tone of her voice that that had meant everything. Zack thought about that as he considered the words she used to describe things. Alpha, pack, mate, wolves. He tried to come up with a logical explanation for all of this as his brain ended on folklore. Werewolves.

"But what does that have to do with me or Conor?" Zack asked as she sighed considering it.

"Well, one of you is the chosen one destined to be my mate. The other will serve as our wedding meal." She told him as Zack frowned.

"What if neither of us are the one you are looking for?" Zack asked as she shrugged, bumping up against him. He noticed she wasn't wearing much of anything and he was glad he was blind. If he could have seen her, she probably would have scared him.

"Then I guess we eat you both." She told him with a chuckle. Zack grumbled in German pausing when his heart hurt. Tony. He had grieved his father feeling like he wouldn't make it out alive, but Tony? Tony, he mourned from the depths of his soul. Zack stumbled on an upturned root and fell down a deep ravine. He heard his babysitter squeak as he rolled away from her. He skidded to a stop, gasping in pain as Sabina quickly hurried to his side. "Are you alright? I didn't see that there." She told him as Zack groaned. He paused when he heard a familiar sound and quickly grabbed the darkness in his vision pulling her down on top of him. She gasped as a gun fired off. The bullet clipped the tree where her head would have been if it hadn't been for Zack. She quickly changed into a wolf and charged the attacker. There was a bit of a scuffle as a second gun shot went off. Zack listened quietly as he stared at the green and blue sky above him.

"Sabina?" Zack called when it grew quiet. Something made its way over to him and he paused when the shape changed into the dark blob. God, damn it. They are freaking werewolves. He felt her hands on his cheeks as she lifted his face to hers. She was soft and warm and not Tony. Zack pushed away from her wiping his mouth on the back of his hand. Feeling queasy from the blood. Did she seriously just rip into someone and then kiss him?!

"You saved my life, I thought it was because you liked me." She told him almost sounding hurt since he rejected her. He blushed nervously at her tone even as his lips thinned in annoyance.

"I don't hate you. I just belong to someone else. Someone I love very much." Zack told her as she nodded slowly considering it.

"Then there is hope. Let's get you back. I am sure you are missing your brother." She told him softly as she helped him to his feet. Zack sighed as he thought about Conor being his brother. That would be fun, he thought. Then they could gossip about their boyfriends. He smiled softly to himself as he imagined a life that would never happen. He was cut up and muddy looking like he had fallen down a hill. Sabina chuckled knowing that that was true. "How did you hear the gun anyways?" She asked him as Zack walked quietly beside her, pulling his attention back to the present.

"My father was a police officer and works with guns regularly. We used to go shooting together. The sound of the weapons was just something I grew to learn." Zack told her as she nodded. Shouting could be heard up in front of them as Sabina growled. She lifted Zack into her arms as he squeaked surprised, running through the woods. Zack held on to her confused as the shouting grew louder. Sabina looked down at the quiet boy in her arms as he listened to the world around him. He was skinny and light making it easy to carry him quickly back to the cabin where her father fought and argued with the pack.

"Sabina. I heard gun shots what happened?" Kalmar asked as she growled at the wolves that snarled at her, the unwanted princess.

"Someone tried to kill me. He saved my life and I dealt with the perpetrator." She told him waltzing into the Cabin. The pack grew restless as Kalmar growled at them. Conor was on the couch with a few new bruises, getting to his feet when Zack returned. Dalilah stood behind him growling at the little wolf cub in front of her. Sabina ignored her as she set Zack down beside Conor. "See your brother is just fine." She told him as she moved Zack's hand onto Conor's head. Zack sighed in relief as Conor hugged him. Kalmar entered the cabin growling as he paced.

"Those conniving traitors! To even consider an attack on my daughter's life..." Kalmar paused when Delilah laughed.

"She is nothing more than an ill-bred mutt. When will you finally see that she is just a mistake?" Delilah hissed as Zack buried himself in Conor's arms where he felt safe. Conor sighed as he glanced around the cabin. Kalmar was the leader of this establishment and from the sounds of things, he was starting to lose control. A leader with no control wasn't a leader and a group with no leader meant chaos. Conor frowned since their lives hung in the balance. He glanced at the girl who sat on the other side of Zack. She was pretty in a wild sort of way, but she looked nothing like anyone he had seen around the cabin so far. She pouted over Zack as he clung to Conor instead of her. Kalmar had come to a pause looking at the two boys.

"What's wrong with him?" Kalmar asked his daughter as she sighed.

"He is blind and struggles to see his surroundings." She told him as her father growled.

"So he is defective. Whether he is the wolf pup of not, he won't survive. We should just kill him now." Delilah growled reaching for him as Conor pulled Zack off the couch away from her.

"Over my dead body." he growled. Delilah smiled happily as she launched herself towards them. she got hit in the side making her stumble and fall. Sabina growled at her as she stood between the boys and her father's mate.

"That defect saved my life because he could hear the sound of a gun being fired before I could. Just because his eyes are bad doesn't mean everything else about him is." Sabina growled as Delilah hissed at her. Kalmar growled as he watched his daughter fight with his mate.

"Enough, if we can't decide who the real wolf pup is, then they both die." Kalmar told them as the females hissed in objection. A loud scuffle outside caused them to turn their attention away from the current situation. "Sabina, watch them. Mate come." Kalmar growled as the two adults left the cabin to investigate....

Ulrich hurried down the stairs, feeling them behind him. The pack had been gathering slowly after Ulrich's announcement, curious to see what this new alpha might be like. Hass was his right-hand man while Tony patrolled on his left. Marie oversaw the humans, following behind them with Gabriella and Alois. Damien walked behind the whole group of young wolves. Curious to see what his son did next.

"Hass, gather them into one cell. I want to talk with them all at once." Ulrich told him as Hass grunted. The three older strays growled at him as Ulrich stood in front of them. "Your pack has taken something of mine and I want them back." Ulrich told them simply. The leader amongst them laughed as the other two grumbled.

"Yours? I doubt our pack has done any such thing." The leader goaded with a dark smirk. He gasped as Ulrich forced him up against the wall, shattering his collar bone.

"I do not have time for your games. Cross me again and I will make you hurt again." Ulrich told him as he dropped the wolf to the floor. He turned back to the other two as their leader sat gasping on the floor. "My pack brothers mate, Zackary Weber and my mate Conor Torrez have both been taken by your pack. I want to know where. The longer you take to tell me, the longer I have to torture you." Ulrich told them as he walked around.

"We don't know either of them. We were just told to get the young submissive." The wolf nearest him grumbled. Ulrich sighed disappointed making the wolves flinch from his overwhelming power that made him alpha.

"Mai? Would you please come and refresh their memories?" Ulrich asked politely as he casually stripped out of his shirt making the other wolves sweat. Mai walked into the room getting an instant reaction from the wolves who hunted her son.

"You! You're working for her?!" They cried in a rage. Ulrich shook his head frowning.

"Not for. With. I am working with her. You see, long story short, I ran away from home and fell in love with her son taking him to be my mate. I didn't want to come back, but alas, I didn't have a say in the matter. It wasn't until you stole him and my human friend that we learned the truth about his origins. Not that that changes anything for me. Conor is still Conor no matter the form he takes." Ulrich told them as the three wolves shifted uneasily. The leader got to his feet, only to spit on Ulrich.

"Disgusting fag." He bit out as Hass growled. Ulrich held up his hand to keep his pack quiet. He calmly wiped the drool off his face before slapping the offending wolf with the same hand.

"Yes, I like guys. No, I don't like you, but let me ask you this. Where is your alpha? See, he knows where you are and has made no attempt to come for you. No call, no bartering, no force, nothing. Because to him you are nothing. To me, my pack is everything and I will kill you all just to get them back." Ulrich told him as the other two wolves shifted nervously.

"Kalmar hasn't been right since Amos left and had a child. Look at his mate and mutt." One of them grunted as they huddled together discussing the matter.

"The young alpha is right. Kalmar won't come for us. To him we are disposable if he can get the boy." Another whined as the leader hissed.

"Do you even know what your suggesting?!" He hissed as the other two whined.

"I do. Help me find my pack and I will let you join it. I promise, I take care of what's mine. Wolves, humans and strays alike." Ulrich told them as he spread his arm to include everyone waiting behind him.

"Kalmar has a cabin that is used for hunting during the fall. It is in the woods to the north of the lake. Chances are if he has your pack that is where he will be hiding out until they move out. You will be on your own for tracking them since they are a bunch of Nomads." The quiet one told him as the other two silently watched.

"Your names." Ulrich demanded as the three wolves shuffled nervously.

"Emit, Cain and Miles. Sir." Emit told him pointing as he said their names. Ulrich nodded to each of them.

"Until I return with my mate, you will remain under lock down. However, I think we can go from prison to hotel status. Would you three prefer to stay together?" Ulrich asked as the three of them nodded slowly.

"I can take care of those arrangements while you are hunting. Upon your return, we should also have a pack meeting." Damien told him from the door way. Ulrich nodded and left the room, leaving the others to follow. The hunt was on for Conor and Zack. Tony snorted excitedly as they made their way out the front door.

"I'll drive." Ben told them as the kids came to a pause.

"Let the humans drive and tend to the wounded so you wolves can do what you do best." Mai clarified as she climbed into the passenger side of the minivan. It had been converted to hold wolves instead of people. The group of six pups climbed into the back. Ulrich paused when some of the older wolves from his father's pack joined them, including his brother Tyson. When they were loaded, and settled in, Ben started the car.

"Hold on, this is going to be a fun ride." Benmurmured as he sped away from the mansion, back to his smaller world.
