Chapter 11
Conor sighed as he stared at the boxed up living room. His mother was still looking for a place to move to which gave him time to try and convince her to stay. Though he doubted he could. Something about the night Ulrich left had stayed with him. As she drank her wine declaring they were moving, she seemed scared. He wasn't used to seeing her scared. But that still didn't stop him from being angry with her about Ulrich and Pizza. He had vowed never to make another friend when they moved because he was afraid it would only end up like this again. He missed them, it hurt and some nights he couldn't sleep or eat.
Cake mewed at him as Conor frowned at the cat. Cake never left his room as the fluffy cat made his way down the stairs and into the window meowing softly. Conor frowned as he glanced outside pausing when he saw the German boy pacing outside his house. He seemed to be troubled by something as he contemplated coming or going. Conor smiled softly as he went to the front door.
"Hey, Cake wants to know if you are coming in or not." Conor called out to him making Tony pause. He hadn't been by in a little over a week and Conor had wondered if he would actually ever see him again.
"Cake?" Tony asked as Conor pointed to the window where the cat sat happily watching him.
"Why don't you come on in?" Conor asked as Tony nodded slowly. He came inside and immediately was greeted by the cat bringing a smile to his face.
"I am sorry I don't have your jacket. I meant to return it, but my friend is using it. He has started making a recovery and I think he will be fine. I actually wanted to thank Cake because I think he is secretly a messenger for the goddess Bastet." Tony told him nervously. Conor chuckled and got them some drinks.
"Then why were you so nervous pacing outside my lawn?" Conor asked him as Tony happily accepted the drink. He paused for a moment before handing Conor a packet of paper. Conor looked at the cover reading the script for the play.
"After visiting with you I decided to give my passion a try. My friend was recovering and I felt like things were going well, so why not? I didn't think I would get a part since I have never had any stage experience, but I got cast as one of the main characters. I even have my own song and dance solo." Tony told him as he cuddled Cake. They had wandered up to Conors room where they could sit on the couch.
"But that's great, isn't it? Your first try and they picked you. You must be a natural." Conor told him as Tony nodded slowly with heat in his cheeks.
"Yes, but I didn't read the play before I auditioned. I had no idea what it was about I just jumped right in and now... I can't tell my family about it because they will disown me." Tony told him as he rubbed the cat's ears. Conor frowned as he flipped through the script reading the highlighted parts. He paused when he realized the type of character Tony would be playing.
"You can't tell your family because you are acting out a gay man?" Conor asked as Tony nodded.
"In the play, my character is in love with his best friend from grade school, but that friend is in love with a girl. I hide my feelings for him wanting his happiness over mine before I eventually break down and confess. Like I had thought, he rejects me, but I have no regrets and our friendship remains intact." Tony told him as he sighed. "I have never been in a relationship with anyone before so I don't quite understand my character's feelings. Even so, my family doesn't think highly of my acting in the first place, to add being a gay man on top of it..." Tony let out a depressed sigh as Conor pat his head. Conor put the script on the couch before he got to his feet pacing. Cake got up to lay on the unclaimed paper with a purr.
"I agree with Cake. You should do what you want with no regrets. If acting is your passion go for it!" Conor told him as Tony smiled and pet the cat. He got to his feet determined before he paused.
"I have already learned the musical number for my piece, would you like to see it? Maybe if I preform it for you it would give me the confidence I need to pursue it." Tony told him nervously as Conor smiled and nodded.
"That's sounds like fun, should we make room? How much space do you need?" Conor asked as he moved boxes around.
"I can shrink my performance, so just the spot in front of the couch would be good." Tony told him as he flipped through his music and put on his musical number. He listened to it on his head phones as he helped clear the space moving boxes downstairs. Someone knocked on the door as Tony put the books with the other boxes. He glanced up stairs to see if Conor would respond before going and answering the door. On the porch stood a young man with dark curly hair and thick glasses. His green eyes glared at him as his thin lips frowned clearly not pleased with him.
"Was ist dein Problem?" Tony grumbled glaring back. The boy blinked a few times before he sighed and shook his head.
"Tut mir leid, ich war auf der Suche nach jemandem. Does Conor still live here?" He asked as Tony blinked at him stupidly.
"You speak German?" Tony asked as the young man nodded.
"My grandfather is from Germany and came to America before he met my grandmother. He doesn't speak very good English so I learned German so that we can chat. Does Conor still live here?" He asked again as Tony nodded and held open the door.
"Conor?! There is someone here to see you." Tony called up. The boy made his way in frowning at the blond German boy grumpily. What was he doing here?
"Zack? What are you doing here?" Conor asked coming down the stairs. He paused to look at Tony with a smile. "This is my other friend Zack. We went to school together before I got kicked out for hitting a bitch." Conor explained as Tony eyed the new addition. Zack frowned at him before smiling at Conor.
"I brought by your homework if you are interested. I don't want you to fall behind." Zack told him as Conor took the paper from him.
"I suppose I should care, but I don't. Thank you for bringing this though. I haven't seen you in a while." Conor told him as Zack nodded slowly. He had been waiting for Conor to reach out to him. To need him. Though he was starting to realize it needed to be the other way around. "The space upstairs is ready now if you are ready." Conor said directing the comment at Tony. The sandy blond boy nodded heading for the stairs before pausing. He said something in German that made Zack frown and shake his head. They spoke back and forth for a moment before Zack saw Conors look.
"My grandfather is from Germany. Do you mind if I stay for this so-called production?" He asked as Tony frowned. Conor nodded happily and headed up the stairs. The three of them gathered in Conors room as Tony read through the script.
"Do you need us to read any lines for you?" Conor asked as Tony paused and blushed nervously.
"It would help with my timing if you both would help. I just need one person to fill in for the best friend, so that I can have an accurate location and then another to read the narrators lines." Tony told him as Conor nodded and looked through the script.
"I don't act and I won't read scripts." Zack told them as Tony rolled his eyes. Conor smiled brightly as he nodded.
"Perfect. Then you can be the boyfriend." Conor told him as Tony pouted. He grabbed Zack's wrist and dragged him over to the wall.
"You just stand here. Don't move. Kannst du damit umgehen?" Tony asked him as Zack rolled his eyes.
"If I am not reading, I can handle standing still." Zack told him leaning against the wall. Tony watched him unsure before nodding and walking back over to Conor to discuss the way his lines worked. Zack watched them annoyed as they looked over the script together. When did this guy, start showing up? Damn it. He was always too freaking slow. How was Conor ever going to fall for him at this rate? Zack grumbled inwardly, ignoring them as Tony went into the bathroom to change.
"You okay? Thanks for helping. He has been really nervous about following his dream to be an actor." Conor told him softly while they waited.
"What? Is he really that bad?" Zack asked as Conor smiled a shadow of his old self. Tony probably didn't notice, but Zack did. Conor was missing his dog and other friends that had disappeared off the radar. Zack grumbled softly as the bathroom door opened to reveal fit young man. His hair was slicked back, gelled in place and he wore a sweater uniform that seemed a little too big. He looked like a good boy from a private school, making Zack wonder what this play was about. Not that it mattered if he could watch this boy fall on his face in front of Conor. Tony nodded nervously at Conor as he went to his desk. Conor read his lines like he was reading a report for class before starting the music. He sat at his desk as Tony took the stage. He started off nervously, but as the music picked up, he let himself get carried away and put everything he had into the music.
Zack watched as Tony danced around the room singing about his tangled-up feelings for the boy he once called nothing more than a friend. His stomach began to turn as he glanced at Conor who watched happily with cake. He understood everything Tony's character was going through and it hurt even more. The music paused as Conor read more lines. Zack turned back to Tony curious, pausing when his heart stopped in his chest. Up until this point the song had been tentative not sure if he should jump or hide. Tony stared at him with his deep brown eyes as he pulled himself up and readied himself for the second half. Tony gave him a small smile as the music started up again and he flew into a frenzy. Some where he had lost his sweater and the tight white tee clung to his toned upper body as he sang and danced.
Tony liked this part of the song best because he could be confident and free. It was time to stop letting the worlds view of him hold him back and free his heart from being locked up in a gilded cage. He danced like he had practiced over and over in his room. He wanted to be the best and preform for millions. He wanted to make his dreams come true.
Conor sat spelled bound as he watched Tony change from the unsure boy he knew to the confident man he was as he sang and danced his heart out. His singing voice carried no hint of his German accent and his movements were flawless making Conor wonder how he held on to such control when it seemed like his energy would carry him away.
Zack never moved as Tony danced for him. He hadn't been paying much attention, but as the song carried on he realized that he was the friend or object of Tony's unrequited love. The song, mixed with Tony's movements, made Zack feel uncomfortable as if he was directing these unspoken feelings toward him. Tony grabbed his chest as if in pain because he couldn't stand the thought of losing him. Zack blushed unwillingly before Tony decided to live with no regrets. He stalked towards him quickly as Zack watched the sweat drip down in his neck. Tony quickly untied the sweater from around his waist and slid it back on, becoming the good little boy once more, but not just yet.
Zack could hear the music coming to an end and he knew soon, the dance and this intense moment would be over. Tony was panting as he paused in front of him. The music did a flourish and Tony pulled Zack off the wall into a dip, causing Zack to hold onto him for balance as he swore. The music stopped and Tony kissed him. Zack squeaked as Tony held him quietly. It wasn't a passionate kiss, in fact, Zack couldn't call it a kiss at all as Tony barely touched his lips to his and froze. He could hear Conor reading lines as Tony held him very still. Zack blushed as he sat there growling, the feel of Tony's warm sweaty body under his hands. This is the worst first kiss ever! Zack grumbled on the inside. The damn bastard.
Tony held the annoyed boy still as he waited for Conor to finish. He didn't have a good nose for most things, but he would have to be human to miss the strong scents this boy was putting off. He was amazed that with how pissed Zack seemed to be, how calm he stayed in his arms. He shifted just slightly letting their lips brush together and paused when Zack kissed him. He hadn't been expecting it and paused angrily when he realized Zack had stolen his first kiss. The damn bastard. Two can play at that game. Tony bent down and kissed Zack deeper making him squeak frustrated. Zack growled as he tasted Tony's sweet and salty lips. His grip tightened on the back of Tony's neck as they quietly battled, making out in each other's arms.
Conor finished his lines and paused as he watched the two angrily make out with each other. It was almost amusing, even though it made his heart hurt as he yearned for Ulrich. He wasn't sure what was going on between them though he was unsure if he wanted to stop it. He turned off the music and frowned at the women in the door way. His mother was watching the two boys quietly as a second girl stood filming it. She wasn't someone he recognized, but she was beautiful. Someone growled as Tony finally lost his balance and the two of them fell to the floor. They started arguing in German before they got into a fight.
"Tony." The strange girl said as she put her phone down. Tony froze quickly making Zack turn on her. Zack glanced from the beautiful girl to the suddenly quiet boy and back again.
"Who's she?" Zack asked as Tony got to his feet and quickly grabbed his things. She pouted as she watched him as Tony made no move to look at anyone. Conor growled as he stared her. He really hated girls. Cake jumped off the desk to investigate her as she stared at it cautiously. Zack got to his feet, fixing his clothes and his glasses.
"He is Cake." Tony told her without looking at her. She pouted at him before she rolled her eyes.
"Tony. Look at me." She told him in a demanding voice. Zack growled as he felt compelled to look at her. They all did. She touched his face gently as she smiled at him. "You have done nothing wrong. Your mother has been trying to find you so I came to collect you. Everyone has been wondering where you have been running off to lately and why he only responds to you. Are these your friends?" She asked softly as Tony nodded.
"This is Cake, Conor and Zack." Tony told her as he pointed at them. She bowed her head and wandered over to Zack holding out her hand.
"I am Marie. A friend of Tony's. I live next door to him and his family." She told Zack with a friendly smile. He shook her hand cautiously as he shot Conor a look. Conor shrugged as he got to his feet. She seemed a little stiff and ridged which only added to Tony's agitation.
"Mom, when did you get here?" Conor asked as Marie turned to look at him almost in shock.
"Just before Tony took off the sweater, she was waiting on the front porch." Mai told him as she looked at all the kids in her son's room. She had never thought he would ever have friends over. It was all thanks to that dog. She tried to hide her guilt as she watched Marie giggle relieved. Marie hugged Zack as he tried to weasel away from her.
"Oh thank god, I thought you were the son." She told him as Tony frowned confused. Zack blinked as he looked at Mai and sighed. He did look more like her than Conor ever would. He paused before frowning at her.
"Why does that matter?" Zack asked noticing the change in her personality. She grabbed his hands as she stared into his eyes determined.
"Because now I can fully support you and Tony. Take good care of him." Marie told him as Tony choked on the air he was breathing. Zack paled in shock not sure how to respond as Marie danced around happily. "Here I was so worried you would never find somebody, but alas, there was some one for you all along. I am so happy I could eat cake!" Marie declared as Tony picked up the cat and backed away from her. She paused frowning at him before she snorted. "I meant real cake dummy. I have been on a diet for like ever and have been craving sweets." She told him as Tony eyed her suspiciously. He muttered something in German as Zack nodded in agreement. He didn't know what this girl thought was going on between them, but it wasn't anything like she thought it was. He had only kissed him back out of spite. Tony sighed as he watched her and nodded.
"I was a little distracted. I should probably head home." Tony said putting the cat down on the far side of the room. Marie watched him with a small smile before she glanced at Conor. She wandered over to him quickly as she smiled.
"Do you have a scarf Tony can have? He looks super cute in scarfs and I want him to look good for his boyfriend." Marie asked him as Conor frowned at her. Tony growled something in German again forgetting that he wasn't the only one who could speak it. Zack growled at him as Tony blushed before they got in an argument. Conor sighed as he listened to his friends scream in German at each other. He went to his closet and pulled out a scarf handing it to Marie. She smiled brightly and hurried over to Tony pulling off his sweater and wrapping him up in the scarf. She did his hair as he grumbled and smiled when she finished her work. Zack growled wanting to hate how cute Tony looked being exposed and hidden at the same time. The tee clung to his defined muscles as he hid his face behind the green scarf.
"You are so stupid." Tony growled at her as she hugged him.
"But you still love me. Come now let's go home. You can come back and play another day." Marie told him as Tony sighed. He said good bye to all his friends as he left with the giggling girl.
"They are so weird." Zack grumbled. Conor smiled and laughed as his mother quietly watched them. She headed down the stairs going into her bedroom, shutting the door. She went to her closet and pulled out a lock box, pulling out the gun from inside. She loaded the barrel with the silver bullets and pulled out her phone.
"Hello, this is the Puget sound school district." Said the voice on the other end of the line.
"Yes hello, this is Mr. Torrez. I'm sorry, but I am going to have to decline your job offer." Mai told her. She hung up the phone and put the gun in the back of her pants. It was time to stop running and just kill the fucking bastards that hunted her son. "He deserves to finally call a place home." She decided. Maybe she would unpack the kitchen first.
