Chapter 78: More Pine Than In an Evergreen Forest
Notes:
More pining. Whispering Pines is attacked by another threat.
Warnings: mention of past sins, fighting
Meanwhile, Ulrica had been working on gathering her army, with the help of Anita and Mother Gothel. Already, many villains had come to join the cause, some with power, some without but all ready to serve Fenrir. It was some days in that Dr. Facilier had arrived.
Regina had slowly but surely been gaining Ulrica's trust. She'd played along, occasionally winning over some of the villains but she could never be sure if they'd trust her enough to help her.
On this day in particular, she found herself wandering off while some of the villains fought over petty squabbles. She needed time to think so she walked away, wine glass in hand and the train of her dark blue dress following behind.
As she stared out at the stars above, her gaze was drawn to the sight of Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men sneaking out of the party after stealing things. She shook her head in amusement.
She jumped at a sudden voice. "Aren't the stars beautiful tonight, ma cherie?"
"Doctor." She said, shortly, with a nod in Dr. Facilier's direction.
"Aww, now is that any way to greet an old friend? I even brought you a gift." He held up an old choker necklace of hers. "I think you lost something, ma belle."
"I'm a very different person than I was when you last saw me wearing that." Regina confessed.
"Let's see." Facilier said. "You had just murdered the king and Alpha, took over control, tricked a genie into serving you for all time, and were working on a plan to destroy an adorable little snowflake. How'd all that go?"
"Sydney betrayed me." Regina replied shortly, taking a sip of her wine. "And that annoying flake of snow is still alive."
Facilier massaged her shoulders in a way meant to be soothing. "My sincerest apologies." He pulled out a card that looked just like Snow White's wanted poster. "I did offer my help. I got voodoo. I got hoodoo. I got things I ain't even tried."
"I'm not concerned." She said, turning toward him, a hint of her old self shining through. Setting her glass down, she added, "Besides, I have a new mission now."
"I find it kinda surprising." Facilier said. "I mean...I never expected you to wanna bring back Big Wolf Daddy."
"I could say the same about you."
"Oh me? Oh no...not me. You know me, doudou. I just like to cause mischief. That, and uh..." He trailed off. "I sort of owe my friends on the other side for my failure with that little froggy prince. I only got off easy cuz I still got that froggy prince locked away somewhere."
"Besides, I have other things on my mind." Regina's gaze turned back to Robin Hood, now standing by himself, glancing up at her.
Facilier followed her gaze. "Ah, I see. Leave it to a thief to steal a queen's heart."
"What are you talking about?"
"At least I know why you turned me down, milady. Ah well! Have fun with Robin Hood!"
He gave a little wave as he disappeared. Regina groaned. Grabbing her glass and draining it, she threw it seconds later. "Why does everyone assume I'm into that thief?"
"Because you are, old friend. " Prim teased from behind her.
"No I'm not!" Regina yelled. "And I'll prove it. "
With that, she leapt over the balcony and raced down to where Robin Hood was standing, pretending he wasn't watching her.
"Oh, Regina! Um...I wasn't spying on you or anything--!"
"Shut up!" Regina grabbed Robin by the front of his tunic and pulled him close, pressing her lips to his. As she pulled away, she muttered, "Huh..."
With no more words, she left.

Hiccup sat down in a grassy field, wrestling with one of his new inventions. He had been working on this flight suit for the past month and it still wasn't working correctly. The diagrams he'd made and the math made sense but for some reason, it kept catching when he tried to use it.
By this point, the twins thought he'd gone crazy and were praying to Loki (no surprise they chose the chaos god) that he'd join their weird little group.
He grumbled over the plans and diagrams he'd used, trying again to straighten out the wings of the flight suit. "Need some help?" A voice called out in a Scottish accent.
He turned to see Merida approaching him, bow slung over her back, munching on an apple. Hiccup sighed. "I'm just having trouble with a project I'm working on. I can't imagine you'd be interested."
"I won't know if I don't look a wee bit, right?" Before he could stop her, Merida grabbed ahold of his plans, checking the math and diagrams. "Well it's not a math problem." She finally said, picking up the flight suit, even as he protested. "The mechanism isn't made with the proper metal."
"What?" Hiccup asked, checking his plans.
"I have a friend that created a new type of metal. It's lightweight, perfect for your flight suit."
"Are you messing with me? I can't tell."
"Oh, Hiccup, why would I do tha'?" She asked with a mischievous smirk. "Ok you caught me. He wasn't a friend. I just sort of...took his stuff after I kicked his arse for messing with my family."
"Remind me never to piss you off then." Hiccup said, a bit of a chuckle in his voice.
"Nah. I don't think you could. You're too nice." Merida said.
It was only then they realized how close they'd gotten. Yet they moved closer, their lips inches apart--
"Oh brother~!" Came a familiar voice.
Hiccup moved away from Merida and ran to the side of the cliff to see someone he'd sincerely hoped not to see again. He cursed under his breath.
"Who's tha'?"
"My half brother, Dagur." Hiccup groaned.
"He's a wee bit of a problem I'm guessin'?"
"More than a wee bit." Hiccup replied. "I have to get the others. Tell me, Merida, have you ever ridden a dragon before?"
"I rode horses before I could walk and sailed boats across vast oceans. But dragons? Ne'ver."
"Well get ready for a new experience."
Hiccup tossed her onto Toothless, a big black dragon (a Night Fury breed) then stepped onto him as well, blowing on a viking horn. His pack, having heard him, jumped on their own dragons.
"What's she doing here?" Astrid asked, glaring at Merida.
"I'm helpin'!" Merida replied.
"What's going on, Hiccup?" Fishlegs asked.
"Dagur's back." There were groans and a lot of "this guy" comments. "Merida, will your pack help us?"
Astrid glared at Merida with a look of "stay away from my mate". "Of course. I'd be happy to help."
A growl from below them caused Hiccup's packs' dragons to dive for the ground, coming to a stop in front of Merlin. Rose was rushing forward too, shouting, "What happened? I just got a really bad feeling."
Hiccup sighed. "It's my brother, Dagur."
As his pack gave Merlin a brief description of Dagur and the messed up things he'd done over the years, Merida called the five clans together. They grabbed their weapons and followed her.
"Get everyone together!" Merlin shouted at Arthur. Within moments, each of the packs ran forward to receive their directions. Merlin began belting out his orders. "Alright, Hiccup, if you have any more dragons, bring them out. Anyone who doesn't have a fear of heights or flying, get on one. Take to the skies and take out those ships as fast as you can."
Hiccup nodded and rounded his people and dragons up. "Anyone who can turn into a water animal, do it. Stop those ships in any way you can. Cedric, Sofia," he stopped as he noticed something, "did you two mate?"
They both blushed. "Well...your brother kinda helped in that regard."
"She's in her heat. Keep her close to you. Hide in the treeline and use your magic from there."
"Yes, milord." Cedric said. He and Sofia took out their wands and headed for the treeline.
"Fay, you and your people do as they do. And keep an eye on Sofia. She's in her heat and the last thing we need is a fight to break out among us while we're fighting these assholes."
"Right away, Merlin!"
"Merida, you and your pack take to the land. Use whatever weapons you need. Braith, I need you to work with them. Any long range fighters you have, get them to high ground. I don't care if it's the treetops or the roof of a barn. Shoot sparingly, though, and only if they get close to shore. Let the others do their work first and take Mithian and Gilli with you. I know you've grown close."
"You heard him, boys! Let's move out!"
"Lea, Deanna, Seth, Chad, Zelena, protect the farm and its people. Don't let them out of the house. Zelena, you got the magic. Light those bastards up."
Zelena grinned. "With pleasure."
"And who put you in charge of everyone?" A voice called.
Merlin turned to Adrian and groaned. "I don't have time to argue with you right now. Lives are at stake."
"I think you forget that this is my home too. This farm is under my protection. So what do you need me to do?"
"Send your people out to help wherever they can. You and your most trusted need to protect the farm."
"You got it. You heard him, boys! Make yourselves useful and move your asses!" He shouted at his men.
Thanks to Merlin's orders and everyone working together, the threat was quickly neutralized, the ships being destroyed in minutes. Dagur lost his temper and threw a variety of weapons--axes, swords, and daggers--into the air.
"Sir, they're tearing us to pieces!"
"What the fuck? None of you are part of his pack!"
"Sir!"
"Yes yes I know! You're a cheater, Hiccup! You've always been a cheater!"
With that, the ships pulled out and everyone went back to doing what they were doing before the fight started.

"It's a pleasure to have you join us." Isadora said, referring to the group of Guardians who had just arrived.
The Guardians were a group of weres that looked like childhood icons of hope and happiness. The leader was literally Santa Claus. The others consisted of Easter bunny, Tooth Fairy, Sandman, and Jack Frost.
"Please, milady, the pleasure is all ours." North (Santa Claus) said, bending down to brush a kiss against the Queen's knuckles.
Jack rolled his eyes. He was the youngest member of the pack and had only just pledged his loyalty to the cause of the Guardians Pack. The pack itself had just defeated their enemy--Pitch Black--who had disappeared into the shadows following the fight.
Truth be told, yes, he was glad to be a part of a cause but, at the same time, he was bored.
His gaze then fell on a member of the Queen's entourage. She was tall, white blond hair tied back in a braid, beautiful blue eyes fixed on the group yet wandering just as his were. She must've felt him looking at her for her gaze moved to his own. He smirked at her and she scoffed, tossing her braid behind her.
Isadora led the Guardians into Wolf Haven, explaining things Jack wasn't listening to. Instead, he moved next to the blond girl. "Hiya, Blondie."
"Don't even try it." She cut him off.
"What? Can't a guy say hi to a pretty girl?"
"No." She said, flicking her braid in his face.
"I'm Jack Frost." He said, trying to smooth things over.
"Queen Elsa of Arendelle."
"So, Blondie, how does an Alpha and a queen at that, end up here?"
"None of your business, Frost!" She spat. "Now you'd better run off, little Omega."
A chuckle behind them revealed Regina, having just returned from playing spy. "If Rose were here right now, she'd probably say the two of you are true mates."
"Yea that's likely." Elsa said, sarcastically. "Not everyone who is an Alpha and Omega pairing that appears to not like each other are true mates."
"I don't know." Isadora cut in. "There have been a lot of those lately not the least of which is Regina and Robin Hood."
"I AM NOT INTO ROBIN HOOD!" Regina yelled, running off.
Isadora lowered her voice. "She is but she won't admit it. It's obvious to literally everyone but her."
"Come. We have so much to show you."
With that, she led them into what would be their new home for awhile.

Back at the villains' party, Facilier locked eyes with Gothel. The look they shared was one that was very familiar in the were community.
Meanwhile, Helen decided there was only one thing left to do...tell Merlin the truth....
