Chapter 45: The Last Days

                          Notes:
Merlin deals with a few more issues before leaving Whispering Pines.
Warnings: birthing, scare, sex jokes

After their talk with Merlin, Sam and Dean decided to stay at the farm for the remainder of the Emrys pack's time there so they could spend some time with Cas.
As time passed, they grew close with Merlin, Rose, and various other members of the pack.
Merlin had declared that since Cas and Luna were true mates, they could stay mated and they held an official ceremony for the two of them.
Brietta quickly found out that she liked being a part of Merlin's pack much more than she did being the third in her brother's. At least Merlin never threatened her mate. On the contrary, her and Daegal were living happily together, their only complaint being that they wished they could have pups at the moment.
The weres that joined the Emrys pack were also much happier. Many of the newcomers had started mating within their new pack. For instance, Gwen's brother, Elyan, ended up mating with a petite, dark-haired Omega from Charles' former pack known as Lamia.
Also, soon enough, Ruby convinced Percival to take Dorothy as a second mate. She was a big help when taking care of Percy's huge and very rowdy pups.
One morning, a couple weeks after Dorothy joined her new family, she was woken up by the pups shifting. Quickly, she woke up Ruby and Percival who came running.
The five pups shifted into five very similar boys, two of which had big brown eyes, one had blue eyes, one had green eyes, and one had red eyes.
The first had black hair and brown eyes; he was named Brandon. The second had brown hair and brown eyes; he was named Jack. The third had red hair and green eyes; they named him Derek. The fourth was the oddball for he had white hair and red eyes; they named him Damen. Finally, the fifth had blond hair and blue eyes; he was named Seth.
The family was very proud and they all happily cuddled together as the proud mother held her babies.

Another week later, as the fifth month of their stay arrived, Agravaine was awoken in the middle of the night by Owain.
    "What's wrong, dearest?" He asked.
"The pups are coming!" Owain shouted.
That got Agravaine to jump to his feet. He ordered Owain to get to the Omega Den as soon as possible. Then, he ran as fast as he could to the Alpha's house and pounded on the door.
Merlin came to the door, still rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "What is it, uncle?" He asked.
"It's time, Merlin! Owain's about to have the pups!"
Just like Agravaine had done, Merlin immediately jumped into action. "Hurry to his side, uncle! I'll gather up the others!"
Moments later, all of the immediate family was in the Omega Den, sitting around Owain. Rose stood at Owain's head, patting him gently as they waited for Gaius to show up. Agravaine nervously paced, biting his nails.
"Uncle, calm down! You're wearing a hole in the floor!" Arthur said.
"Calm down?! My mate is about to give birth and where the hell is Gaius?!"
Just as he spoke, Gaius came rushing in. He hurriedly moved to Owain's aid. "Alright, Owain, I need you to shift for me and start pushing."
Owain turned into his small dark brown wolf and did as Gaius asked.
"I always wondered what a birth from a male Omega looks like." Rose said. "I don't remember seeing one in my old pack "
Merlin wrapped his arms around her from behind and held her as he replied, "It's not really any different from that of a female, love. Really the only difference is that they couldn't give birth in human form."
Rose made a noise of understanding then turned her attention to Owain as he inhaled a labored breath. A large golden wolf came tumbling out of him at that moment and he let out a sigh of relief as Agravaine picked her up.
Gaius, meanwhile, noticed something as he felt around inside of Owain. "I wouldn't celebrate so soon if I were you." He said. "There's another pup in here."
"Another?" Agravaine asked. "Nyx said there was only one female."
"Downside of magic." Gaius replied. "Sometimes, things can be hidden. I believe this pup couldn't be seen because he was hiding behind his sister. Unfortunately, he's very small, smaller than Kai even and may not survive."
"Save him!" Agravaine begged while Owain howled a similar statement.
Gaius nodded, rolled up his sleeves, and got to work. Moments later, a very small and sickly little pup plopped out. He was so small, he fit inside one of the old were's hands.
"He's very weak." Gaius explained. "I will see if Nyx has something that can help him."
    He left to find her.
Owain laid on the pile of furs as his daughter wiggled up beside him and began feeding. Giving his mate a look, Agravaine responded gently.
"Don't worry, dearest. Nyx can save him."
Owain nodded his little wolf head and laid back down, falling asleep soon after.
                          * * * * *
As the sun finally started to rise over the horizon, Nyx joined the fathers in the Omega Den with the news:
The little one would survive but he'd need to stay with Nyx over the next couple of weeks so she could care for him until he built up his strength.
The fathers both let out a sigh of relief and hugged one another as well as their "little" girl. They then decided to return home to finally get some sleep.
Around that time, Sam and Dean were just waking up and decided to go to Cas' house for breakfast instead of staying at Maisie and Lear's house since they wanted to check on their friend and talk for awhile, something they usually only did during the day when working or during communal lunch since they didn't want to bother their friend or his mate when they had two pups to take care of at all hours.
Cas answered the door with a tired smile on his face. "Oh Dean, Sam, good morning! Would you like breakfast?"
He sounded so happy that the boys couldn't help but say, "Sure."
Cas lead the boys inside the house and to the kitchen, where two pups were busy yipping at the table. The boys sat down on the opposite side of the pups and Cas sat down two plates piled high with eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, pancakes, toast, and waffles.
Dean smiled as Cas sat next to him. "Man, I missed this! Just us, a couple of best friends...and the fruit of another man's loins."
Cas gave Dean a death glare as he explained, "That's not how it works, Dean! Never say that again!"
He then explained, "When an Omega mates her or his true mate, any pups the Omega has becomes the Alpha's in every way. Those pups are mine as if I sired them; they have my blood and my power. Have you seen their eyes?"
They glanced at Cas' eyes, a lake of blue with a swirl of gold and silver inside it. The pups' eyes both matched exactly.
    "Huh...how bout that?" Dean said.
"So have you named them yet?" Sam asked, remembering what Rose had said about the name days.
Cas looked down. "Unfortunately, they haven't shifted yet. And please don't say anything to Luna. She's already worried enough."
Just as he spoke, they realized that the pups were shifting. Quickly, Cas ran to wake up Luna who came stumbling in to find two golden haired children playing with Sam and Dean.
"Oh! My babies!" She said, rushing to hold them. "You're both so beautiful!" She hugged her two babies tight and they giggled as they hugged their mother back.
Cas chuckled as he moved to hold them in his arms. "What do you want to name them, beloved?"
Luna looked up at Cas with her amethyst eyes widened enough so that the pools of blue just around her pupils could be seen.
"Alistair for the boy and...Aurora for the girl." She shyly suggested.
"Alistair and Aurora...beautiful names for the pups of my beautiful mate." Cas said, grinning.
He grabbed Luna into his arms, wasting no time as he kissed her passionately, not caring that there were other people in the room. He lifted her onto his hips and the boys backed up, getting ready to make themselves scarce.
At that moment, Luna turned her attention to them. "Hey, can the two of you do me a favor and bring the pups to Rose's house? I'm supposed to meet her later today."
    "Sure thing." Sam said.
Cas then carried his mate into the other room and slammed the door behind him. And Sam and Dean grabbed the kids and left the house before they could hear anything they'd regret.
                           * * * * *
Rose answered the door with a bright grin on her face before her expression turned to confusion. "Hey. What are you two doing here so early?"
"Luna asked us to bring her pups over to you since she's a little...busy."
"Oh!" Rose said as she picked up on what the older Winchester was saying. "Sure. Well, do you mind helping me? I've got nine rowdy pups here and I need some assistance keeping them in line until we can get all the parents together."
"Seriously, how do you raise all these kids and not lose it?" Dean asked. Sam elbowed him and he added, "Just wondering."
"Well you know the old expression "it takes a village"? It takes a pack to raise pups. I have plenty of help." She uttered a series of yips and her pups lined up outside. "C'mon...let's get going."
The boys followed Rose, helping lead the pups after her as they moved to the back of the farm, towards the woods.
"So what're we doing anyway?" Sam asked.
"Merlin wants us to check to make sure the pups are ready for travel so we have to test them, considering we have only a few short weeks left before we intend to leave."
By the time Rose finished her explanation of what that entailed, they had arrived to find most of the Omegas waiting for them, along with Nyx, Dorothy, and a couple other Betas with several pups.
Rose passed around greetings to each member there and they got down to business. When it was over, she decided they needed a couple more weeks for the younger pups to catch up.
Owain almost passed out and that's when Agravaine came out of nowhere and grabbed him up into his arms bridal style, carrying him back home for some rest, while Owain protested, "I'm not a girl!"
Luna and Cas arrived some time after that. And when the boys saw just how happy Cas was with his pretty mate, adorable pups, and all the other weres surrounding him, that's when they knew the truth:
He was better off without them.
