PoV: Sonic the Hedgehog

  Loud sirens ran past me and Tails as we were walking home. There was smoke rising into he distance. Our friend Amy and Knuckles were with us, we had all planned to hang out after school and my place today. The smoke looked close, it was giving me a worried feeling.

"A fire?" I stopped and looked at my phone, I had gotten a warning.

"We should check were that fire hit," Tails suggested, he was squeezing my hand.

"It looked a little close to home didn't it," I felt a little anxious as we went towards the smoke. I ran ahead with Tails behind me, and our worries were right. The house was mostly in ruins with some of it on fire.

  I ran in and found my room. I looked under my bed, there I had a box with everything of value to me. I grabbed it and the toy plane Tails named Tornado, as well as a picture of me and Tails when we first met.

"Sonic you okay?" Tails took the plane from me.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just needed to get a few valuables," I showed him the picture, "Besides, I don't think the house is coming back.

"You grabbed this?" He took it from me, "That was dangerous!"

"I know buddy, but we need to find somewhere to sleep now..." I looked back, the house collapsed. There was nothing left, "Besides you built this plane yourself, it means a lot to you."

"You can stay with me," Knuckles suggested.

"You can stay with me Sonic," Amy grabbed my arm, "But I only have one bed~"

"Thanks? But we'll just stay with Knuckles," I pulled my arm away.

"Ugh, you boys always stick together. Fine, go be boys," she clicked her tongue, "Sonic~ my door is always open for you."

"No thanks, I'm good," I shuttered.

"Let's get you guys settled at my place," Knuckles suggested we start walking.

  We ordered food that night and quickly discovered there was no room for three people. The couch was crowded for all of us and I ended up sitting on the floor most of the time. When it came time to go to bed, Tails had a pillow and blanket on the couch, I was on the ground with nothing... it was fine at first, but Knuckles started snoring. I already squished between the couch and table. There was no place left to go... I couldn't sleep at all.

"Sorry Tails," I walked to the closet at around three am, I was just too tired.

  I pulled out the all of Knuckles coats from the closet and slept in the closet after sitting it down. I sniffed as the cold air kept me up all night. It's cold....

"Sonic... Sonic!" Tails woke me up, he was leaning over me.

"I'm up..." I sat up, rubbing my eyes.

"Did you sleep here last night?" Knuckles asked.

"Yeah Sorry, there was just no space for me," I hugged the coats and sniffed.

"Maybe you should stay with Amy..." Knuckles suggested.

"No! Do you remember last time I stayed the night?" I shuttered at the memory.

"Oh yeah, you disappeared for three days without a trace," Knuckles laughed.

"Yeah, cause she tied me to her bed! I can't go back there..."

"She didn't do anything but play with your ears and feed you," Knuckles smirked, "Don't tell me their sensitive~"

"Don't even think about touching my ears," I growled.

"Well where else are you going to stay?" Tails sighed, "That fire took most of our cash. We need the money now to rebuild and to buy food. We can't afford to rent a place."

"I don't know, I'm sure I can figure something out. Tails, you should stay here with Knuckles," I said as I got up, I felt a sharp pain in my neck and back. As I sat up. This school uniform was stiff and annoying to sleep in.

"Let's get some breakfast man-" Knuckles was cut off by a knock at the door.

"Is Amy here already?" Tails opened the door and Vanilla was here. She was the mother of Tails' friend in lower school, Cream, "Vanilla."

"Hello Tails, how are you doing?" She smiled, "I heard about the fire, I'm glad you're alright."

"Ms. Vanilla," I dusted myself off and pushed the coats off me, "What brings you here?"

"Just three hungry boys who I need to feed," she put her bags down and opened up some Tupperware. They were filled with food! "Go on a eat."

"Thank you!" The three of us started eating immediately. Vanilla's cooking was always heavenly.

"How are you three fitting in such a small apartment?" She ruffled my quills. She did that every time we met, I think she just liked the feeling of my fur.

"I'm fine," Tails replied, "Knuckles has his bed. Sonic slept in the closet."

"You did?" Vanilla touched my neck.

"Ah! Wait, I'm sore there..." I moved her hand away.

"You're sore from what?" Knuckles asked, his mouth full of food.

"From sleeping in your closet!" I snapped, "My back hurts from being on your floor!"

"I don't have any other couches!" He snapped back.

"That's enough you two. Sonic, you can stay with me," Vanilla handed Tails a new tooth brush.

"What, why me? You should take Tails, he and Cream can play like siblings," I answered.

"If I do that they'll stay up all night playing I'm afraid," Vanilla looked at Tails, "After all that's what they do at every slumber party. But Tails is welcome to visit at any time."

"I'd actually like to stay here Sonic. I like Cream, but when Knuckles goes to the gym I'll have time alone to work on my projects," Tails said, "And I see Cream plenty at school."

"So long as you're sure buddy," I finished eating my portion.

"Do you have anything to take with you?" Vanilla asked.

"Just that..." I looked at my school bag and the box I saved.

"Let's get you settled at my house then," Vanilla picked up my bag and box, "Come on."

"Uh... see you guys later I guess," I left with Vanilla and she drove me to her place. She put my bag down by the door and told me to put my box in her room.

"Sonic, you can sleep on the couch tonight. Tomorrow well get a mattress for you to sleep on in my room," she said.

"Your room?"

"Well you can't stay with Cream and her toys," She replied. And I wake up before you do, you won't notice me."

"Sure..." I didn't have anything left to settle in, I had no clothes, no toothbrush -until Vanilla gave me one- no charger for my phone, and hardly any spending money.

  The next day Tails and I checked to see the price of having the house rebuilt, rent was already out of our pay range, we had to use all our money to pay for construction. It would also take almost a whole year.

  Vanilla gave me her handy down clothes from when she was younger to wear until I bought some clothes. Vanilla made me dinner that night after Cream came home from school. Cheese was already excited that I was staying the night. Cream was excited too, we played her games until her bedtime. Vanilla laid down a pillow on the sofa for me and gave me a blanket.

"Don't stay up too late, and take bath tonight," she said as she started to clean the dishes.

"I won't be up later than eleven," I answered, "I'll take that bath now."

"Okay, I'll leave a towel out for you and some pyjamas," she said.

"Thank you."

  I wasn't all to fond of the bath, I held on to the edge the entire time. Vanilla gave me a nightgown to sleep in. I didn't expect pyjamas for guys since only girls lived here. I laid on the couch and Vanilla turned the lights off... Its not that weird right?

  I felt a bit nervous in the dark, I turned on the microwave light as a replacement nightlight and laid back down. So... this is home tonight...

  I just hope construction starts soon.
