Chapter 4: The world never felt so cold
A knock on the door woke you from your sleep... wait, you had fallen asleep at the window? It all felt like a hazy memory... your head feeling a bit foggy after yesterday's crying. The knock happened again and slowly you made your way to the door, opening it up to see Masky! You couldn't tell if he was smiling or not, but he sounded cheerful.
"Good morning, Y/n. Would you like to join us for breakfast? Toby could make you some of his famous waffles." That alone was enough to make you grin brightly as you nodded vigorously. He gently took your hand and led you through he maze of halls and rooms to the kitchen where many people were... how many people lived here?
You saw Slender, Toby, Hoodie, and Masky had escorted you. But there was also a girl who had a clock for an eye, a little girl that seemed to be your age, some short boy with blonde hair and an odd costume, and a figure with a dark countenance that had eyes glimmering gold. You frowned softly as you noticed the little girl seemed to be bleeding, "Masky, the little girl is bleeding, is she okay?"
Your voice is meek with worry as Masky nods, "Yes, I promise she is fine. She is always bleeding but it doesn't hurt her. You can sit wherever you would like, Y/n. Toby, can you whip up some pancakes?"

After some nice... waffles (Toby tried very hard to make pancakes but ended up somehow catching them on fire so you ate waffles instead.) Slender assigned Hoodie to show you around the house and as the two of you started walking out of the kitchen, the short boy joined you.
"Hey! You must Y/n! I remember the night you came in, it's so crazy that you are a human living here because-" The boy was interrupted by Hoodie, "Enough, Ben. Do you not remember what Slender said?" You looked between the two as Ben now pouted, "Sorry... I just wanted to come and help with the tour and meet you."
And those two spent the next few hours with you, showing you around the giant puzzling mansion with Ben constantly going on about certain rooms and Hoodie having to stop him. It was rather comedic and made you feel happy and safe with them the longer the tour went on. Maybe it wouldn't be bad to live here, after all everyone is so very nice and unique! None of them really look like people she has ever seen before!
"Y/n," It was Hoodie who spoke up, "That is the end of the tour, but I must warn you, there are more people who live here then the ones you have already met. Some of them were out on errands and others sleeping, but when you meet them, do not be afraid."

Hoodie's words stuck with you, and even as you started playing with the little girl who was named Sally, you couldn't shake the feeling of worry his words gave you.
"Sally?" You asked softly as she let her teddy bear rest on the ground so she could look at you, "I have a question... is um... is everyone who lives here nice?" Sally simply giggles with a bright smile, causing you to relax, "Of course, Y/n! Some may seem a bit scary at first but they are all very nice! We are like a family after all!" You nodded happily and continued on spending the afternoon playing various games.
You had just started a game to tag, Sally chasing you through the halls, when suddenly, you heard a terrifying laugh as you ran into someone... but when you looked up, you thought it to be more of a monster than a human. It had no eyelids, just wide eyes and a smile that was jagged and way too big for its face which was whiter than paper and hair darker than oblivion.
"Well... look at our new addition.." the creature hummed, "Wonder what we will do with you.." The way he, she determined him to be somewhat human, talked to her made her feel fear and so she backed away as Sally slowed down when she approached, "Hi, Jeff! This is Y/n!" He nods, "I can see... Sally, please be a dear and let us talk in private." She was reluctant at first but slowly, she left you alone with Jeff who sickly grinned at you. "Tell me... Y/n, are you afraid of the dark?" You stared into his eyes, nervous as you slowly nodded, "A-a little..." he nods, walking away which leaves you to question what the motive was... but as he walked away you also realized you were lost.
You decided not to follow him, after that creepy encounter... you decide to wander about and soon feel that you will never find you way to a familiar room. Suddenly, you stumbled upon an open room to find Ben playing a game on a tv. Finally, one familiar person! You ran to go greet him, but you suddenly were falling to the floor! You heard a crash and looked up to see that you tripped over the tv cord and cause the tv to fall, effectively rendering it useless. It was silent for a moment before Ben started screaming, "Y/n! I was so close to beating the game!! You are dead!" Your eyes widened as your heart started racing. His voice... it was so angry, he was very angry!! "I-I'm very sorry! I didn't mean to! I-I got lost and I-" "I don't care!" Ben interrupted, throwing the controller which hit the wall near you, causing you to jump and suddenly, you ran. You didn't know where you were going, you just kept going as you heard footsteps racing after you. Dodging around people who were walking about in the halls, you suddenly find yourself in the foyer and bursting through the front doors into the cold forest.
Where were you going? You had no clue, you were so terrified! You could hear people yelling and exclaiming from the mansion and you disappeared into the darkening forest, stumbling over roots and wiggling between branches until, exhausted of your energy, you pull yourself up into a bush, taking deep breaths as the tears start to fall. She didn't mean to mess up his game... he was so scary... you cover your mouth as you hear footsteps hurrying through the woods. "Y/n!" Sally called out and soon you heard many voices calling out your name. 'Y/n! Please, tell me where you are. It is much too cold for you out here, my child. Please,' Slenderman's voice echoed in your head as you shook in fear, 'I didn't mean to, I promise! Please, don't punish me. I'm very sorry! Please... I'm sorry...' You could hear him cursing, 'Everyone, we must find her as fast as we can! She could freeze out here.' You hadn't noticed it until now that it was indeed cold out here... very cold. You hugged your legs close and remained as quiet as you could. Soon, all the light drained from the forest and only darkness remained with figures still running to and fro about you, far off or nearby. It was getting colder... you just wanted to sleep... dream about being warm... as your head rested on your knees, you begin to feel your eyes close...

"Slender!" Clockwork's voice pierced through the air, causing the others to race to her as quickly as possible. She held your small body in her arms, worry overwhelming her face, "She is so cold... she is awake but I can't get her to respond." Slender looked down at you, your eyes not even seeming to notice his presence, 'Run, her her back to the mansion, get her changed into dry clothes and warm her. She has been exposed to the cold for too long.' With a nod, Clockwork took off to the mansion, the others either running ahead to help get things prepared for your arrival or following behind in case she needed to trade off. You couldn't feel anything, everything felt numb, but you could still see, your gaze fixed on the stars. So beautiful and magical.. and yet, even stars die.

The next thing you know is that you are waking up in your bed, the girl with the clock eye, Slender, and Ben, who was looking out a window. "Slender?" You spoke up, making all three turn to you and Slender stepped closer, 'Y/n, don't ever run away again! Do you hear me, you could have died out there!' You nod, trying to keep from crying as he hugged you close, "It's a lot easier to replace a tv than it is to replace you, there are thousands of tvs and only one of you, understand?"
You took a moment, taking in his words, a bit surprised before hugging him tightly, nodding, "I-I understand, Slender. I'm sorry..."
"No," this time Ben spoke up, "I am the one who should be sorry, I let myself get mad and that wasn't right to do to you. You didn't mean to break it, I'm sorry I scared you and made you run away. I promise that I won't ever do that again." You nod softly as Slender motions at the clock eyed girl, 'Y/n, this is Clockwork, if you have not gotten to meet her. She save your life as she had found you and helped warm you back up.' She smiles at you as you look at her curiously, "Thank you... for saving my life."
Clockwork nodded, "Of course, now please, get better, you have been through a lot, and should probably get some more rest. If you need anything at all, don't be afraid to ask Slender for me, okay?" You quietly nod and the three soon leave you to rest. You aren't sure what all happened the other night, what emotions were going through your head in your flight of fear, but now you are safe and that is all that matters.
