twelve
Today I'm taking the bus, a reckless move I know but Jinyoung insisted because he believes there's a less likely chance of me getting tripped. I'm not sure what he means by that, I'm sitting by myself with earbuds pushed into my ears as much as possible. I sat all the way at the back so I could play my dating sims in peace without being interrupted or judged because who wants to sit here anyway? I suppress the urge to smile at the game, this male says some very heart fluttering things I'm glad I chose this path. About five minutes into my bus journey we stop at a station and more kids get on, soon they're going to have to give up and sit next to me; this bus isn't very large. Before I can fully immerse myself back into the game I feel someone sit down beside me, my immediate reaction is to turn off my phone before they notice what I'm doing unsure of who they are I look up. "What are you giving me that look for, Mijoo? You're making me look like some kind of pervert." The person says, it's Haknyeon to be exact. My face relaxes,
"Sorry, I just thought you were someone else."
"Like who?" He scoffs, "Let's be real here, Mijoo, who else would sit here?"
"I know that." I quietly retort "I just didn't want anyone else finding out about my dating sim obsession." I whisper
"Why?"
"Because, that kinda stuff is blackmail material." Haknyeon had to stop himself from bursting out laughing,
"You have a point but wouldn't that be ridiculous? Lots of girls play dating sims, with an obsession or not they still do."
"Shut up." I pout, they'd probably all pretend they hadn't tried one before if such information was let out about me
"How are you feeling today?" He says, gesturing to my hand and leg
"Better, still sore though. My teachers are being kind enough to let me off writing until it doesn't hurt anymore." Haknyeon grins
"That sounds like an absolute dream, maybe I should go and fall over next a brick wall." I lightly push him to the side and give him a look,
"Haknyeon, please."
"I'm kidding of course I wouldn't do that." I roll my eyes at him and let out a sigh. "We've arrived at another stop give me a second." He peeks over to see which stop it is, "It's Woojin's stop but I can't remember whether or not he's taking the bus today."
"Well, we'll find out." More people pile onto the bus and squish onto seats together, two people sat next to Haknyeon and when Woojin spotted us he squeezed in a tiny gap between. "Haknyeon, I hope you aren't to bothered by personal space." I wheeze. He looks either side of him,
"Yeah, I hope I'm not too bothered either." He mumbles back.
"Have a good day, Mijoo, be careful." Haknyeon says as he and Woojin quickly wave goodbye to me before entering their classroom. Taking Haknyeon's advice I cautiously walk through the hallway, sticking the edges and trying to advoid running into people.
"Good morning, Mijoo." I find myself joined by someone on the outer edges on the crowded hallway, I'n not able to turn around and see who it is but, if my memory is good enough; I'm guessing it's Jinyoung.
"Good morning." I say squeezing past a group of boys,
"How's your hand and leg today? Still sore?" He asks,
"Yeah, I won't be able to write today either." Jinyoung laughs
"You aren't faking it?" I scoff,
"Of course not, I might not like studying but I'm not Haknyeon either."
"That's true." Jinyoung lets out a slightly pained noise "You'd think being popular would mean people would get out if the way when you're walking but apparently no."
"This isn't a drama, Jinyoung, people don't bow to your presence in reality." I inform him "Besides, why would anyone want to get out the way just for you. You aren't that special." I feel a gentle thump on my head
"Mijoo, be quiet, I'm just fantasising what could be reality but unfortunately isn't." I push open our classroom door and squeeze my way inside, Jinyoung follows both of us breathing heavily.
"Why are the halls so packed today." I mutter
"The halls are never this packed, what's going on?" Jinyoung looks at me, as if I know, I shrug. "Is there a orientation day we weren't aware of?"
"Something like that; I thought you'd know Jinyoung, usually you know these things." Minhee smiles at him, "There are kids from other schools here so teacher's have limited where our students can go by blocking off certain hallways."
"Glorious." Jinyoung mutters under his breath as he sits down
"Your welcome, Jinyoung." Minhee stands next to his desk giving him an expectant grin, Jinyoung sighs
"Thanks." He says, barely looking at her. "Are you going to leave now?" Minhee hadn't moved from her spot,
"What? Sorry, what was that?" She blinks at him
"Are you gong to leave?" Jinyoung repeats
"You want me to leave?" Minhee scoffs "Wouldn't you rather have me around?"
"No, I really wouldn't. I'd much prefer it if you left."
"Oh, come on Jinyoung, look at me." Jinyoung rolls his eyes, "I'm something to look at, but you have to spend your day looking at Mijoo. Quite an eyesore if I must be honest, wouldn't you rather spend as much time as you possibly can before the teacher arrives taking in my beauty?" She flicks her hair and grins at him
"I admire your self-confidence but I don't think I agree with you."
"What do you mean?"
"Remember the note I gave you?" She nods,
"Yes, but you didn't mean that."
"I meant it, every single word, now leave." Minhee huffs and goes to her desk,
"Well, she got something right." Jinyoung looks at me confused "I'm an eyesore." Jinyoung audibly sighs
"You aren't an eyesore, okay?" I raise my eyebrows
"Sounds fake but okay."
"Mijoo, please. You're pretty, okay? Don't tell yourself that you aren't just because Minhee says so, she isn't right and besides she's basically your enemy why would you want to let her bring you down?" I bite my lip and look down at my desk, Jinyoung has a point,
"I guess you're right." I mumble and Jinyoung smiles at me
"Exactly." I give him a small smile back "Do you want me to take notes for you today?" He gestures to my hand
"You don't have to."
"But what are you supposed to do? Sit there and not learn?" I nod,
"I'd rather."
"I thought you said earlier that you weren't like Haknyeon and you'd still try." He grins, he remembered me saying that
"Okay, fine then, take notes for me."
"That's what I thought."
