"Eunhye, I'm home." I call, I wasn't even sure if she was back yet. There was a slight crashing sound and then Eunhye emerged from the kitchen,
"Yes, hello, Mijoo. Did you have a good day at school?" I nod, "Yeah, is everything okay in there?"
"Yeah, of course." She grins, and I give her a look "Okay, I dropped a plate because you scared me but it's nothing too bad. It's one of the cheap plates."
"How do people even trust you with being a chef, honestly, you're so clumsy." She drags me into the kitchen and sits me down in front of a plate of steaming food. "Eat." She hands me a pair of chopsticks
"What country's this from?" Honestly, it looked Korean but I'm not about to be deceived. "Korea, isn't that obvious or have I been feeding you too much foreign stuff?" I shake my head
"It's obvious, but last time I thought you were giving me Korean food it turned out to be completely different." She laughs and almost knocks a knife off the counter "Maybe you should put those away." I say
"Yeah, good idea." She starts to pack her stuff away and I begin to eat
"By the way, I didn't ask you yesterday, but did you talk to your desk mate yet?" I let out a sigh,
"We changed seats yesterday so no, but my new desk mate started to talk to me."
"Oh, that's good." I shake my head, I'd say something but my mouth is really full "No, why?"
"Do you remember someone that went to my elementary school named Bae Jinyoung?" She shook her head, "Doesn't ring a bell." I point to the bookshelf in the other room "Should I go get your year book?" I nod and hold up my fingers signalling for her to get my book from my second year. She goes and gets it out and passes it to me, I flick to the page with my class in it and point to his picture
"Him." I say through another mouthful of food, almost spitting most of my food out. She looks at the image trying to remember who he is, it finally hits her after about three minutes.
"Oh, Jinyoung!" She slaps her hand on the table and immediately regrets it afterwards "He's the guy you embarrassed so much that he ended up hating you." She laughs "And he's your desk mate, beautiful!" I stare at her blankly whilst she laughs on the floor "Does he still hate you?"
"I don't think he remembers me." She shoots up from floor "How does he just, forget you?"
"I'm not sure; maybe it's the glasses, the hair, I've aged - there's endless possibilities." Eunhye pulls a face "That's fortunate, I guess. Is he being nice to you?" I nod
"He's letting me sit with him and his friends at lunch. The only problem is that they're all really popular so there are just groups of girls staring at me and being rude to me." Eunhye let's out a sigh
"Ignore them, Mijoo. They're just jealous."
"I know that, besides one of them said they'd punch them if they did anything to me." I pick up my plate and take it to the sink "Keep him around, he'll be useful to you." I giggle
"I'm not sure how strong he is though, I can't just take his word for it."
"Either way, keep him. Friends are good." She puts my plate into the dishwasher "Also, mum won't be home tonight either." Mum's never home, and even when she gets home I never see her.
"Doesn't bother me, I'm just going to be playing dating sims in my room. Remind me to have a shower will you?" I say and I head towards my room. Eunhye sighs,
"Can you do something instead of being alone all the time?"
I sit at my desk flicking through my textbook; I didn't understand a word in it, even if it's in Korean. Put simply, I don't understand science. "Jinyoung, what does this mean?" I ask him, normally I wouldn't say anything and just sit by myself having a mental breakdown - but I'm desperate.
"What?" He looks at my book and gulps "Oh, that, uh, um, how does one do that?" He thinks about it for a second and looks at his own book, he bites his lip "I'm sorry, I'm really bad at science."
"I thought you were supposed to be intelligent." Jinyoung scoffs "If you want smart go and ask Woojin, or Jihoon. They're older than us so they've already done this." I nod and look back down at my textbook, hopefully one of them is good at chemistry
"I'll ask them at lunch, maybe, if I can be bothered."
"I'm going to ask them to help me after school in the library, you can join if you want." I look up at him and became hesitant in responding "You don't have to if you're busy."
"Why do you keep being nice to me?" I whisper, he tilts his head to the side and gives me a pointed look "Because, you always look lonely. You always have looked lonely, even when we were younger." My soul just died, call an ambulance. He remembers me, oh dear. I'm screwed, help me, this must be the point where he tells me he still hates me right?
"You, remember?" I gasp, wide-eyed and Jinyoung lets out a laugh
"Yeah, of course I do. What did you really think I'd forget what you did to me?"
"You're the one that introduced yourself as though we hadn't met before." I hiss, Jinyoung shrugs "I don't completely hate you, just so you're aware. Though I'd guess that's because I'm too nice."
"How?" I look like I'm trying to attract flies because I can't shut my mouth
"I'm not sure, so are you up for the study session?" Did he really just change the subject so casually, where can I get those social skills? Bae Jinyoung, where did you acquire such a great skill? "Maybe, I'd need to check with my sister but I should be able to." I fumble around trying to get my phone out
"We're still in class, Mijoo." He says, suggesting that I put my phone away and do this later "I'll forget." Jinyoung lightly places a hand to his forehead,
"I can remind you."
"You said you have to buy lunch today, so you'll take too long and then it will be too late for me to notify her of my random absence." I quickly type out the message and hit send, I then stuff the phone down my blazer sleeve when the teacher walks past our desk - she eyes me suspiciously but turns back around and wanders back up the isle. I felt a gentle vibration on my wrist, slowly pulling my phone out just enough to see the message I let out a sigh
"What can't you come?" It's not that Jinyoung; I can come, but you know me and my lack of social skills, I'm
useless.
"No, I can go." I say dropping my phone into my bag "So I'm assuming it's you, me, Woojin and Jihoon this afternoon then?" Jinyoung nods, "Unless someone else decides to join, yeah, that's what it will be."
"Isn't my sister going to proud of me, spending time with other people." I put on a grimace
"That's called making friends, Mijoo. Besides, there are plenty of girls who would rather be you. You know, surrounded by attractive men." I snort, Jinyoung grins at me "And I'd gladly exchange with any of them." His face drops and he give me a light shove
"That's mean, Mijoo." I shrug and turn back to my textbook for no reason whatsoever, "Whoops? I guess?"
a/n;
I guess I'm starting to figure out what to do with this
