Chapter 3: Luna Genevieve
Adela was frightened and was sitting alone in the corner of the trunk and could smell the cigar smoke and the blood. She had no idea that her brother became some sort of demon creature. Even if she barely remembered her brother, she knew he would never kill a fly. He was the kindest and the most caring person. He knew how to take care of her even when they were young.
After a long ride to the place where Adela still does not know where or to what she is going to, Adela calms down. She calms down because staying with her brother makes her feel safe. It makes her feel like she can do anything. There is just something about him. The vampire sitting on the seat being her brother makes her wonder if that really is him. Or if it is someone who just wants to mess with her and wants to make her even more broken than she already is. She knows that she will never do anything good without bringing everyone down with her. She knows that she will never do anything that matters in life so what is the point of it all but being with her brother makes her feel like she can do everything.
Jordan starts to get worried about Adela as he speaks after a while of silence, "I'm sorry, okay, but right now I need to take you to someone."
"Who? If you're taking me to someone then you should at least tell me who it is." Adela said to the supernatural being who stood just two feet away. Adela is curious about who he is talking about. Hopefully they will have the answers to what is happening.
"Who? I'm taking you to Genevieve," He replied. "She'll tell you everything."
"She better," Adela said, calming down but still frightened. Not because of Jordan, not because of the kidnapping, not because of Genevieve, but because of herself. She was afraid of herself, she was afraid of her life falling apart farther than it already has.
When they reached where the needed to go, Jordan held out his hand to help her get out, but Adela pushed it away and got out herself. She walked to the front, sat on the porch, and waited until Jordan got there.
"Hurry up," Adela called to Jordan as she was already in front of him, "I'm coming!" He called back. When he got to the front he sat with her and said, "I'm really sorry Adela, I never wanted to kidnap you." She heard the heavy-heartedness in his voice. After he said that he burst into tears. She looked at him and his eyes that were full of sorrow. Despite the blood on his face, he was innocent, he had lost someone that meant a lot to him. He had lost Adela.
"Jordan, if your telling me the truth about you being my real brother please do not cry, I understand how much you've lost and how you had to live without a family," Adela said softly she knows because she had to go through the same thing. When she did live with her mother she still always felt like she had no one.
He stops tearing up and speaks with a weak voice, but also with a smile on his face now, "Thank you, Adela," He started getting up and then said, "I owe you a lot."
Adela looked at him and smiled but then frowned. She had lived eight years without her brother, what if Jordan was actually her brother and she lost him again, but if he was a vampire he was immortal. He would never die, never grow old, but she would grow old. She would perish and he would stay alive forever without her.
'What am I thinking, vampires and witches aren't real. They're just made up, they're made for kids. They're in T.V shows, they're in movies. Not in real life, but what if it is my life right now. What if I have a vampire sitting next to me and what if I myself am a witch? The forest was so unreal, but my magic was so real. Everything supernatural happening to me felt so like it is not a fantasy when it was supposed to be a fantasy. My mother must be so worried. I don't wanna worry her, but I also want to know everything Jordan said Genevieve was going to tell me. I am so confused, I just want to go home and get some shut-eye.'
Thinking, Adela fell on the ground asleep. Jordan carried her inside and said "I love you Adela and I am sorry." She was really exhausted from the trip to come here. She forgot to tell Jordan to let her call her mom and tell her she was doing okay and was not in trouble. Adela didn't know that her mom had been watching her and Jordan the whole time. She heard everything. Every. Single. Word.
**********
This time Adela woke to the smell of chicken. She got up to see a girl her age, she was really pretty. She had her long brown hair in a side braid, her skin was a beautiful shade of tan like she spent days on the beach, she had big brown eyes that were glowing with happiness. She squealed when she saw Adela awake on the couch, "Eeeeee!"
"Huh, where am I?" Adela asked while looking around frantically.
She started saying, "You're where all the witc-" but then stopped. Then she asked raising her eyebrow, "Jordan didn't tell you where he was going to take you?"
Adela shrugged and responded, "Well, no he kind of kidnapped me."
"Oh my god! Ugh, he's so annoying! He kidnappe-" She started blurting out.
Adela examined the girl and then interrupted her by saying, "Wait...are you, Genevieve?"
"Yes, I am," Genevieve announced, smiling.
"Can I have some of the chicken?" Adela pleaded.
"Sure. It's for you anyways." Genevieve answered.
"But I would much rather eat it myself," Genevieve winked.
Adela laughed, knowing she was just kidding.
"So how old are you?" Adela asked, her mouth full of chicken, she was so hungry she didn't even care what Genevieve thought about her way of eating.
"Eighteen, I'm your age right?" Genevieve asked.
"Yup, how do you know my age," Adela answered, stuffing food into her mouth. Genevieve had brought her water, a burger, and biscuits. Adela loved food and she had to go without it for 12 hours. The weird thing was that when she ate a lot of food she stayed as thin as a stick. It was like fat could not stay on her. It bothered her that she was so thin sometimes but most of the time she did not care but she doesn't care about most things.
"Well, Jordan told me you are twins and he is also eighteen so you must be the same age unless you are some sort of immortal." Genevieve said.
"I do not think I am..." Adela said, while she might not be but her brother is.
"That's what I thought."
***
"Ok, so I have some questions, Genevieve," Adela said after she was done eating.
"What might your questions be?" Genevieve questioned.
"I'm a witch? Jordan's my brother? He's a vampire? Where am I? Are you supernatural too?" Adela pressed.
"Okay, but can I ask you a question first?" Genevieve insisted.
"Okay, what is it?"
"Your name?"
"Oh right. It's Adela. Adela Rivers."
"Well, then you are Adela. Adela, let's start from the beginning."
"The man is your brother Jordan, however he didn't die when he was ten, well he did die, but not of cancer and not when he was ten. Your mother kicked him out when she found out he had magic. She was scared of him and she thought you didn't have it. Your father tried his hardest to stop her but he couldn't. Jordan hates her for kicking him out, he hates her for not understanding. Your father was a warlock so that's how Jordan is one too. As for why Jordan is a vampire, he went to an adoption agency and got adopted quickly. The parents loved him. He got straight A's and always ate his vegetables. He was a really good child until they saw him doing magic. He taught it to himself and got caught. They kicked him out and took all his stuff. He was in an adoption center again. Bouncing from one home to another he had enough so when he was seventeen he got a job. No one wanted a seventeen year old. He earned enough money to buy an apartment by the time he turned he lived there until he turned eighteen. One day he was walking down the street, he got pulled to a dark corner of the street and someone was biting him. They were sucking the blood out of him, then they fed him their blood. He drank. He died. He awoke on the doorstep of our house." Genevieve explained as much detail as she could.
"Wait, why did they turn him into a vampire?" asked Adela.
"I honestly do not know it is illegal for vampires to bite humans they could get in big trouble but Jordan did not see what the people who changed him. Even just biting living human and turning people could get you into even more trouble."
"Genevieve, Jordan bit a human, a human girl and she was screaming." Adela told Genevieve about what had happened and even though Adela was terrified of what she saw she still was not scared of Jordan she knows that he is someone who can be sympathetic with people.
"Well Jordan he has to since he can only survive off human blood it is because he is also a warlock."
"The girl was screaming in pain. I heard it and even saw some of it but isn't it illegal to do that?" Adela asked.
"Yes it is Adela, it is best we do not talk about this not many people know that he feeds on humans. Adela we can not talk about it especially not in front of Jordan, we can not change who he is and he finds it hard to accept it. He doesn't want to be a vampire. It is too hard to explain why he does that. It is better if you do not know the truth Adela because it can hurt to know." Genevieve explains.
"Genevieve you have to tell me why he does it, I can handle it. Did you know that I tried to escape from him and almost succeeded." Adela pressures Genevieve into telling her the truth about Jordan.
"Really that is impressive escaping from a vampire but why would you even do that." Genevieve starts to laugh.
"Why are you laughing?" said Adela while Genevieve is still laughing her head off.
"Do you really think that you could have escaped without Jordan knowing even if you did manage to get out of the vehicle he would have sensed you leaving it. He has a heightened sense of everything he probably even saw you when you were not in the van he drives." Genevieve says while she stops laughing.
"What does that mean are you saying that it was dumb of me to even try to save myself?" Adela was getting annoyed that Genevieve does not even believe that she could have left.
"No, no, no I am saying be careful around him and also I have a feeling that he might not have even noticed you outside. It would be a halfwitted idea for you to even try to escape from a vampire/warlock hybrid. But you having a chance is because from you there is nothing of the supernatural aura that emanates from you."
"I do not have a supernatural aura? Aren't I a witch, wait what are you? Are you a witch like me?"
"A witch like you? No, I'm not a witch at all, I'm a werewolf," Genevieve said.
"What makes you think you are a witch when I told you about the aura that every supernatural creature has and your lack of it."
"I did a spell when I was younger that Jordan taught me and I did the same spell when I was running away from him because I was scared. I think it was because I did not know who he was. was doing it and I did not even know why."
"What spell was it?"
"I don't know, it just makes the trees which were apparently fake disappear."
"What else did that spell do?"
"I don't know but Jordan said that it was a test for me and I think it went like this. I do not remember." Adela tries to recite the spell she said from before but she can not remember.
"Okay, Adela, you need to stay far away from Jordan and if you do go near him go with me."
"What are you talking about he is my brother and I love him"
"I know you do but he is very unsafe and unstable."
"No he is not just because he is a vampire does not mean he will be a danger towards me. He cares about me, I know he does."
Adela starts to go into Jordan's room when Genevieve tries to stop her.
"You have to listen to me stop."
Adela can not believe that Genevieve is blocking her from going to the only family she has in this world. Its not like Genevieve is her family she is just someone who saying terrible things about her brother who she deeply loves.
Genevieve being a werewolf can not stop her so then she says something to her something that Adela always wanted to hear.
"This place is where all the witches and werewolves of our bloodline live, I'm your cousin and even though I'm not a Rivers I'm still family."
Adela stopped and looked at Genevieve. Adela wanted a family even if she did lose everything to get one. She just doesn't want to be alone anymore. She does not want the people she loves to die. She now realizes she wants her family back and for her to be happy again. Adela smiled, she wasn't scared, not with Genevieve and she was going to listen to her.
