Chapter 7
"SLYTHERIN"
Everyone's job dropped, even Dumbledore looked surprised. Almudena rushed towards the Slytherin table as the Great Hall filled with whispers once more. "What? A Potter in slytherin?"
"This has to be a joke"
"No way possible"
Whispers and eyed followed her across the Great Hall. When Almudena finally reached the table she hugged Draco and waved at the rest of the Slytherins who smiled brightly at her. "Potter, Harry", the air was tense and filled with suspense as the Hat opened it's mouth to reveal which house Harry Potter would be sorted into.
"GRYFFINDOR" it yelled, the atmosphere changed drastically as he sat next to Fred, George and Lara Malfoy. "Potter, Jana" the hat once more opened it's mouth and yelled.
"SLYTHERIN" everyone looked around at her and opened their mouth widely. After seeing Almudena wave her hand at Jana indicating for her to rush towards her, Jana sat down infant fo Draco and Almudena. Slowly the crowd disappeared (Ron and Hermione got sorted into Gryffindor) and Dumbledore stood up making the Great Hall silent.
"Welcome!" he greeted, beaming at his students "Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment!" The Hall erupted in cheers and the glittering empty plates in front of them filled with food. Almudena looked at Draco as he pulled sausages towards him.
Her eyes met Harry's. "What the-?" he mouthed.
"I know right! We will talk later!" she mouthed back and returned to her plate. They chatted away the night. Wondering who else got sorted into Slytherin. Looking up at down the table and talking about the teachers.
"Almudena and Jana Potter." said Crabbe who had just left his seat with his large friend Goyle. "Slytherins?" he laughed. The people around the Slytherin table looked at them and remained silent.
"Problem? Crabbe?" Almudena asked looking at him dead in his piggy little eyes.
"No, no problem Potter" he spat making Draco rise to his feat. People from other table fell into silence too. Some teacher looked briefly at them. Crabbe and Goyle returned to their seats and the last traces of the desserts disappeared into thin air and Dumbledore rises again holding his arms wide and beaming brightly at the students in front of him.
"Hope you all enjoyed the feast!" he announced looking at the crowd of smiling faces. "Just a few more words now that you all have been fed and watered. I have a few start-of-term notices to give you. First years should note that the forest in the grounds is forbidden to all pupils. And a few of your older students would do well to remember that as well." His eyes drifted to Fred and George before continuing.
"I have also been asked by Mr. Filch, the caretaker, to remind you all that no magic should be used between classes in the corridors. Quidditch trials will be held in the second week of term. Anyone interested in applying for their house teams should contact Madam Hooch.
And finally I must tell you that this year the third-floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a very painful death. And now, before we go to bed, let us sing the school song!" cried Dumbledore.
With a flick of his wand a long golden ribbon appeared in the air. "Everyone picked their own tunes!" Each student started singing with their own tune"
Hogwarts, Hogwrats, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts,
Teach us something please,
Wether we be old and bald,
Or young with scabby knees,
Our heads could do with filling,
With some interesting stuff,
For now they're bare and full of air,
Dead flies and bit of fluff,
So teach us things worth knowing.
Bring back what we've forgot,
Just do you best, we'll do the rest,
And learn until our brains all rot.
The Weasley twins were the last to finish with as slow and funeral-like song. Dumbledore wilted with a smile in his face and when they sang the last word the golden ribbon disappeared. He wiped a tear out of his eyes and turned to face his students.
"Ah! Music!" he exclaimed, "A magic beyond what we do here! Now off to bed! Off you go!" Suddenly the air of the Great Hall was replaced with shuffling of benches and chatting of students. Emmeline Figg, a tall Slytherin girl, stood up.
"First years!" she called out, "Follow me!" Once all of the first years were behind her she marched outside the Great Hall calling out "Prefect! Out of the way!" to other students. While all of the Gryffindors and Ravenclaws headed up the stairs, the Slytherins headed down other stairs. She lead them the way down to some dungeons and to a brick wall.
"Pureblood" she said and the wall opened up. Most firsts-year awed in amazement when they saw the common room. It was decorated with black, green and sliver decorations. There was a fireplace with a green flame powerfully burning in the middle and the roof was made of glass revealing a dark lake. Stranger creatures swam and waved and the new students who waved back.
There was many black velvet couches and arms chairs and a large table. The right there was two staircases. "Okay, to the right the girls and to the left the boys!" She said and marched up the right staircase. Saying goodbye to Draco, Almudena climbed the stairs with Jana and three other girls.
Once they found a door with a 'First Years' sign on it, they pushed it open to reveal a grand room. It had 5 black, 4 poster, bed with wooden snakes crawling up the posts. The sheets were green and had a velvet silver blanket over it. And the end of the bed seated the girl's trunks. On top was the uniform for the next day and on the bed was the girl's pyjamas.
On Almudena's bed sat her pyjamas, she changed into them and looked around the room. In the middle was a steamer and beside each bed was a bed-side table. She looked next to her bed, and there was a bed-side table and a small window. She closed her eyes and looked at it again, it had changed the view. She closed her eyes again, wishing for it to look like before. It changed.
She was staring into the lake, she closed her eyes again, the starry night. Lake, night, lake, night. Amazed, a smile appeared on her face. She turned to the roof of her bed, it resembled the night outside. The star consolation. Without being able to do anything anymore she closed her eyes and fell into deep sleep.
